I peeked on the Outlands Equestrian yahoo group today, and found that Isobel, our Kingdom Equestrian Officer, has posted a new Outlands Equestrians rule book. The rulebook includes all the new SCA Equestrian rules with some additions and a few clarifications for Outlands. I'm going to attach it to this document, but I'm not sure if it will go through to the groups. That's why I individually e-mailed as many of you as possible.
Here were the major highlights:
All riders required to wear shoes with closed toes and heels.
There were no specifications for the quintain lance were noted other than length, so I think we'll be ok using anything safe at Crossroads
No authorizations are required for ground crew in Outlands. They need only be approved by the EqMIC, be wearing closed toe shoes, and show that they can safely hand a weapon to the rider. Pretty much the same criteria we've always used, it just makes it easier that we don't have to worry about authorization cards now.
There was a clarification that you do NOT need an authorization to ride at practices, and that practices can be used as places where you gain the skills to get the authorization. I don't think this changes the fact that practices are not riding lessons, however, it does more clearly state that its ok to attend practices without having to get authorized right away.
There were rules for many of the specialty authorizations - jousting, crest combat, driving, mounted archery. However, none of that applies to the upcoming event. In the future, we really need to get some of this specialty stuff going!
Let me know if you have any questions. These rules are simple and in line with the new SCA equestrian handbook, so it’s a good change.
