Yesterday some of the equestrian guild members from Unser Hafen got
together and began the building of a quintain. We got about 80%
completed. We will have it ready for testing at our first official
practice, which is being planned for Sunday, March 30th at Mountain
View Stables 10:00 a.m. - Noon.
After discussions with the group, we are interested in holding our
Unser Hafen Champions event at Sun Pony, due to the good spectator
viewing and the possiblity of loaner horses. Do any of you remember
how much Sun Pony charged last year for the site? I would like to
present our tentative plan at the next Unser Hafen officer's meeting
which is next Thursday. And finances always are a popular topic at
such meetings. I think the Champions event will be on a completely
separate day from the rest of the Unser Hafen Champions events, giving
us the opportunity to run it as a day-long (or half day) activity.
Perhaps with a potluck luncheon etc. Maybe we could even have a Unser
Hafen Champion (last year's Champion) vs. Caer Galen's Champion (which
I believe goes by a different title?) kind of fun race or something
(set up two sets of rings or two lines of heads or something like that?
Anyway, I wanted to give a heads up about our Champions event, which I
think we can make into a fun event that really pulls in Caer Galen as
well - if you guys are up for it. It would be sometime in June. And
then it would be nice to hold a real practice out at Sun Pony sometime
in advance.
Speaking of Sun Pony practices, from the Unser Hafen perspective, it
would be nice to have something like 3 'big' practice sessions that
could be done as fun half-day activities to make it worth while for
those that have to haul down from LaPorte (where a majority of our
horses live), and to make it worthwhile for those that pay to ride one
of Sun Pony's horses. Something like a 4-hour practice 'mini-event'
maybe even with some teaching seminars or demos or ??? Let me know if
you guys have any ideas.
I'll post a message as soon as our practice dates and times up at
Mountain View are set, but I think this idea of holding some longer
practices tied in with educational elements at Sun Pony could be
worthwhile, if others are interested.
