TODAY IS THE DAY PLEASE MAKE YOUR CALLS!!! SEE BELOW FOR CALLING INFORMATION...
PLEASE SEND OUT TO YOUR LIST
Friends, right now horses are traveling through Texas to Mexico in heat indexes as high as 116 degrees. They are suffering horribly only to be brutally slaughtered. We all have to come together and do what we can for them.
It is important for each of us to take 5 minutes on July 14th to call our U.S. Representative to cosponsor and support HR 503 and our U.S. Senators to cosponsor and support S 727. If your U.S. legislators are already cosponsors then please thank them and ask them to help get the bills through committee and on to the floor for a vote.
I have included the call in information below as well as the information for Horses on the Hill for those that can actually go to DC on July 14th. Also you can see "How to make calls to Legislators" at the very bottom.
Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your two US Senators and US Representative’s offices (to find them visit www.compassionindex.org Your 30-second phone calls urging your legislators to “please support H.R. 503 and S. 727 to protect horses from slaughter” are critical.
OR
Go to www.congress.org and almost to the top to the right enter your zip code. This will pull up a page with your officials listed click on your US Rep and Senators, then click on contact for their direct numbers.
AFTER YOU MAKE YOUR CALLS (calls are MOST important) please send an email via HSUS at https://community.hsus.org /campaign/FED_2009_conyers burton_horses2?qp_source=g abhbt
HOW TO MAKE CALLS TO LEGISLATORS
If you are new to the site or just new to antislaughter here is some information that will help you get started with our goal of stopping horse slaughter in the United States and the transport across our borders for that purpose.
Friends, we need help so ANY call you make WILL help whether it is 1 or 10 please at least make that 1 call for the horses sake.
If you need help please ask we all started some where. No question is stupid LOL believe me I should know:) I thank you but most importantly the horses thank you!
First let me tell you that I was scared as you know what when I started making calls. The reason being is I had never made a single phone call to a legislator's office in my life! I had no clue about the process of how bills became law and frankly didn't have any desire to learn. But then came the horses... Everything changed at that point and I knew I had to get involved on this one, no doubt about it. After talking with many of my family and friends I started to realize that all of the people I was calling were actually paid to help me! Wow what a different perspective I soon had once I realized they were providing a service to me. Most everyone you will hear on the other end of the line when you call is hired specifically to take calls and make record of your call. As time went on it got easier and easier talking to these folks, knowing they were actually there to help me:) Yes every so often you get the person that forgot to eat their Wheaties but for the most part they are pretty nice.
So at first I would simply call and say " my name is _______ and I am calling to ask Rep or Senator to cosponsor and vote yes for (Rep HR 503 and Senator S 727). They would say thank you for calling and I will pass your information on to the or Rep/Senator and that was it!!! Mission accomplished!
Now you have the basics and I hope it will help! I now consider myself a professional because I offer a whole lot more to the person on the other end of the phone. Always be respectful!!! One thing for certain is you don't have to be scared of talking to these people they are there to take your calls.
Thank you.
