During yesterday's Calaveras Ride, the subject of online mapping resources came
up, here are the ones that I know of for the club's reference:
http://www.bikely.com
a bit slow at times, but free, and can create a rudimentary automatic cue sheet
(with directions like turn NE on xxx rd) when you draw your route. Elevation
data seems to match the elevation data I get on my gps more closely than other
mapping sites.
http://www.ridewithgps.com
my current favorite starting point for drawing maps. Automatic cue sheet
creation with real turn directions (turn Left on xxx rd). Elevation data is
about double that of bikely, so it makes some pretty impressive elevation gains
to look at. Like the elevation chart on this one the most (not to be confused
with the elevation gain data).
http://www.mapmyride.com
Fast, but they try to sucker you into paying for a membership. For this reason,
I don't use the site anymore, except when other sites have been down.
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
This one I've never really liked, but its out there, and am including it as a
reference.
For a comparison, I drew the route for the Calaveras ride yesterday on
ridewithgps and bikley

anyone want to do the thursday ride on wednesday? i'm thinking i may

Half Moon Bay Ride
Come join Susie for the Half Moon Bay ride. Meet at 8:15, roll time is 8:30AM. Route sheets will be left on the hood of her white Lexus SUV or a Red Dodge Caravan for those running late. This is a 56-60 mile loop with about 5000 feet of climbing. Please be self sufficient as there is NO sag support. Also, you need to be comfortable with riding at your own pace even if it means you are cycling by yourself. Meet at the south end of Main St. near the fire station; corner of Main St. and Higgins Canyon Rd. Susie, aka Bumpster, will be riding even if there is rain. Ride canceled only with tropical storm conditions. It is time to develop the Doubles mentality.
Contact: Susie Bump at 650-995-6453.
Sunday, November 222/L-S/38 Joint Ride with Team Alameda
Paradise Loop This is a scenic ride across the Golden Gate Bridge through Sausalito into Tiburon with many views of the bay. The route is mostly flat except getting to the bridge and out of Sausalito. If the Blazing Saddles tourist can do it, you can do it too! There will be an easy pace for novice riders and a faster group with a hillier option into Tiburon. Ferries from Tiburon and Sausalito are also available. Both clubs will be carpooling to Sports Basement at the Presidio in San Francisco where the ride will begin. Dress in layers. The mornings are chilly.
Meet at 8:15 am in front of Kaiser Permanente at 2417 Central Avenue, Alameda near the Park Street intersection across from Tutti Melon. Take the 23rd exit from 880 north to get to Park Street. Rain Cancels. Bring water, snack and $ for food, ferry, BART
I will be at Petsmart at the Bayfair Shopping Center 7:45 AM to coordinate carpooling and a convoy to Alameda.
Had a great time on the ride, here's a shot of some of the group rolling by:
Thanks for leading the ride, Eva, and Nikki for leading us out!

Hi All,
I have been storing the club's banners & shade canopy at my home for the last 5
years. I won't be able to store them any longer. Anyone have some extra space?
They don't take up a lot of room, the banners are in boxes, the canopy is in a
canvas bag. I can drop them off at your home. If there no takers, I will drop
them off at the club meeting Wednesday evening.....
***CCC MONTHLY MEETING WEDNESDAY Nov 11, 2009:*** Reminding you there is a CCC club meetingthis Wednesday at the Manor Library
(located on Manor Blvd in San Leandro, next to Porky's Pizza). The Board meeting starts at 6:30 pm followed by the General membership meeting at 7:30 pm. All are welcome and encouraged to join us at both meetings.
The main focus at the general meeting will be to elect a board for 2010. There are a handful of officers who have dedicated 2, 3+ years of volunteer service to our club and they feel it's time to pass on the baton. The club is seeking your help to fill these positions. Come to the meeting and see what you can do to make 2010 a great cycling year!
We also have details on our annual Xmas dinner and excited about our new venue.
Anyone interested in dinner? If so, join us at one of the following times: 1. 5:00 pm at Porky's Pizza for a pre-meeting bite 2. Bring your dinner and eat during the meeting (the library is Food Friendly")! 3. Join the "after-meeting eating group" for food & libations
Also take advantage of the free patio bike
parking at the Manor library!!
Please send in your agenda items by 6 pm Tuesday evening.
Yes, it is a great ride. It is a great double too. This club really has it well supported & organized. The reason Double tree is packed is that TNT uses this hotel. However, if you are ok with a liberal hotel a great cheaper place is the Jupitor Inn. It is mile from the finishing line.
Cheers

I did Seattle to Portland (STP) this year for the first time and absolutely loved it. I will be signing up to do it again next year. There is 1 hotel that is convieniently located at the end of the ride in Portland across from the finish called Double Tree. I called today to make reservations thinking I would be in good shape booking in advance. To my surprise, the hotel is fully booked. However, if you say you are a part of the Cascade Bicycle Club STP event, there are only 8 rooms with 1 Queen left.
Date of STP: July 17 & 18 2010
My reservation date: July 18 departing July 19
Cost: $120
Cancellation policy is 30 days before arrival.
If you think you are even slightly interested in participating, I recommend booking the room now. You can always cancel later.
Google Cascade Bicylcle Club for more info.
I turned my STP event into a 9 day vacation getaway to have some fun in Northwest and to see family in Seattle which included:
- Overnight and casual riding in Ashland, OR
- Train ride from Portland to Seattle
- 50 mile ride on San Juan Island
- Leisurely riding in La Conner, WA
A date in the near future will be set up for those interested in participating and hearing about the logistics of this event.
