Just a quick reminder about the Altoona 15k on the 4th--it's a great race well worth running. It's actually the first road race I had ever done (1990 I believe). At that point, I hadn't ever actually completed 9 miles. But my friends convinced me that I would have a better chance of winning an age group trophy. That seemed to be a worthy goal. Odd. Anyway, they were right, but I struggled! I ran it again when I got out of the Marines in 1996. Again, I had far too high of an opinion of my fitness and staggered through the last few miles. I tried to hang with Terry Shea who at that point had just finished at Bucknell. I'd say that he trounced me, but we weren't even in the same race--figuratively speaking.
I've run it twice since and enjoyed it much more. We might go to the race, but I'm still out of commission, recovering from a post-marathon injury. They always seem to get me!
Happy trails,
Art
