Olympia, Lacey, Shelton, even Centralia have skate parks It's easy for
a city with the lead of a group to see a need and work on funding that
recreational need. With the skateboard parks it took the lead of
several older responsible and organized skateboarders and
rollerbladers to get it done. With mountain biking being divided into
XC, DH, street, slopestyle and even BMX being divided into race,
street, vert, and flat it's hard to get one unified voice to get a
general plan in place and work on the details of what will be
available to ride together. I plan on spending the time over the next
few months or years (hopefully not years) to working on getting one of
our three cities to help with this ideal of a bicycle park.
Step one is going to be getting a clear picture of the concerns and
wants of all the various riders. Here is my early schedule of
information gathering for the mountain bike riders to start with.
Dec 21
I will be at the Solstice ride with some questioners and discussion at
the potluck afterward
Jan 3
I will be out on this FOCF work party and asking everyone what they
would like to see happen.
Feb Date TBA
I will be getting a small space (Better than the one this past summer)
for a free mountain bike video (Earthed 4 Death or Glory) and BMX
video (Elusion) screening downtown Oly for everyone to enjoy film,
food, and bike riding talk about how to get our own North Seatac BMX,
Colonnade or Duthie Mountain Bike Park.
