I just received my copy of the September / October issue of American
Bicyclist, the League's magazine. It came a while ago, but I've been
out of the country.
It carries a long article about cycling in Washington State. We were
rated #1 in the country, followed by Wisconsin, Arizona, and Oregon.
Part of the article includes interviews with five people who they
decided were "Leaders in Washington Cycling." I was one of those
interviewed; the League knows me pretty well, as a Life Member, regular
attendee at League events, and the regular homestay of Andy Clarke,
Executive Director of the League when he's in the area. However, I
was incorrectly identified as President of the Capital
Bicycling Club (in the telephone interview, where I had no idea I would
be a "feature" of an article, I described myself as Chairman of the
Olympia Safe Streets Campaign, and a past-President of CBC).
I think I was President of CBC in 1993. Since then
I've been Treasurer and Government Affairs Officer. Before that I was
Ride Captain, Government Affairs Officer, Newsletter Editor, and
Vice-President. I've been enjoying my retirement from the Board for 3
years now, after serving for 13 years total. Maybe I should no longer
even include past-President in my description, to avoid
confusion.
Other than the mis-identification of me, I think it's an excellent
article. I've attached it, and think at 520 kb it will "fit" through
the listserve.
