Interesting ???? -

I've been trying without success for 2 days now to reach Eric Potter who owns the home we use for the Twin-Oaks rest stop after Jim Lazar suggested we offer a work party.

Now Laurie (see below) is suggesting some fund raising and a donation.

I just called Lewis County Emergency Ops Center (EOC):  He's not on the list of people rescued.  There is flooding out there but the guy didn't know if Eric's effected or not. The phones are still down in the area.  EOC offered to do a wellness check and call me with status.  I took them up on the offer.  As soon as I know more I'll send another message.  In the meantime I'm going to keep trying the phone Eric

Should I also call Swede Hall and the Adna Lions about their park?

Anita - please put out an eNews asking for heathly members willing to do a 1 day work party to call me at 480.9855 by Wednesday the 12th.  By then we'll know if we'll be wanted.

Should we accept $$$ donations??  If so for whom?  If not do we want to offer suggestions such as the Thurston or Lewis County Red Cross?
Either way works for me.

I'm split between offering labor and/or giving directed donations to people who host us or who are hosting/helping victims of the storm and flood.  To me this is: Mr Potter, Swede Hall, The Adna Lions and the Mt St. Helen's Grocery.

You can reach me on the pocket phone before 9 at night any time except from noon-2 today.

Sound off.

Subject: flood victims

During this past week I have watched in shock as the extent of the flood damage has been revealed.  It is one thing for I-5 and home depot to be flooded out, but it really saddens me to see the beautiful rural roads, farms and communities that we all enjoy cycling through, to be left in ruin.  Many people have lost everything they own- their homes and belongings, their farms, equipment and animals- all destroyed.
I know there are many avenues to donate and help, but I was just thinking how meaningful it would be for our bike club to make a gift directly.   In a way, these people give to us each time we ride our favorite country roads of south thurston and lewis counties.  TCDMC, adna-vadar loop are 2 of my favorte rides through the affected areas.
I am not skilled in fundraising personally, but would love to earmark some of my donation dollars for a bike club effort.  What do you think?  Is there energy within the club for this or is it better to donate through other organizations?
Happy holidays-
Laurie
