I agree that volunteers are going to be needed to take up the slack to keep county parks and trails open. I have started a conversation with the County Commission on that very topic.
The way to be successful would be for many groups to each "own" a park or trail segment. For example, WTGA is formally adopting the I-5 bike path from the Chehalis Western Trail to the State Capitol.
We can help these groups form, get organized, and learn how to run work parties.
I know one group that is forming right now around Yolmie state park.
Yes, the TreeLC work party is for the area we walked through.

I got the skinny at a DNR meeting tonight about the north end. DNR is indeed proceeding with the land transfer to the county for the trail it's self. DNR is of course retaining the Woodard Bay park and trail head and just finished cleaning up the trail and fixing all issues with the horse trail. So it should be good for a while. We (all the users) will just have to keep an eye out for wind damaged trees, garbage and such as well as work out somesort of multi user group work party efforts to take car of minor issues county parks may not have a budet to now.
Maybe if county can not deal with it all due to budget cuts a cololition agreement of sorts could be formed amoung bird watchers, runners, bikes, horses, etc... to pick up some slack????

Jack. If your reading. Since you are more plugged into the trails than others, any chance The Woodland Trail Greenway Association could add any needed workparties to your online calender? By the way is the Tree LC- Taking care of the trees we planted over the last 6 years April 9 going to be in that tre area you walked me through?

Do we have a stance on how to work with the closure of Thurston Parks department?
What does this mean for the Chehalis Western Trail and Yelm to Tinino?
What about the North End (Woodard Bay) did transfer from DNR to County Parks happen? What does that do now? DNR has taken maintenance of the trail out of the budget for most or 2009-2012 since they had intended on not owning it.
If parks isn't going to open or maintain Chambers Lake Trailhead and Fire Tree Road Trailhead should we try to organize with the fishing, Kayak, walking and running clubs to maintain it as a volunteer group effort?
