Re: [CB175RaceTech] Still having issues

Ben, check the tach drive if the oil leak is on the right side of the engine. I've had that on several of these.

     Ben
Sounds as if you are running dry on your run.
Raise the float up a bit try #95 jets, Needles on bottom rung.
try 87 or mid octane for a hotter burn
The 93 is sometimes the problem lower btu's per liter.
if you have not advanced the timing. try it.
" It definately runs better before it heats
up though it'll chug along fine when warm.
 Just doesn't seem to idle"
The Carb is perhaps too rich have you tuned the air/screw mixture
to balance each side.

Subject: [CB175RaceTech] Still having issues

After 900 miles or so on my cb175 and countless adjustments it still
seems to have a couple of issues I'd think. Will pull just fine
through 3rd to 10k rpm, in 4th it'll pull to about 9 and change. 5th
about 7-8k. On the highway I can coax it up to about 60-65mph then
when I go to 5th it'll end up back around 50mph or so. Plugs still
have some carbon build up after a ride. Have the carb needle as far
down as I can adjust it. The floats are right where they should be,
running 98 main jets. I did try some 92s that were in a spare carb and
it runs out of gas above 5k. It definately runs better before it heats
up though it'll chug along fine when warm. Just doesn't seem to idle
as nice, etc. Compression is around 140 each side (my gauge isn't the
best for this engine). No need for the choke even when starting cold.
I am getting around 50mpg using 93 octane. I weigh about 225lbs. I
seem to have a slight oil leak out of the one side of the head.
Haven't figured out where though as I just see some oil on the fins.

No its on the points side.  Didn't think of that but will check to see if the seal back there is leaking.  I didn't replace the ones for the cam so that...

I may be WAY off base here, but your problem sounds more significant than carburetion. My 175's tend to run awesome regardless of where the air screws are or...

If the valves were off I'm assuming I wouldn't have 140ish compression.  No more weird noises than my nighthawk has and rides just fine through most gears. ...

Check the ignition over pretty good. A tired coil or condensor can show up at the higher cylinder pressures encountered at high loads as seen in the higher...

Well I've played with the timing with no results so I guess its time to replace the coil (which tests fine when cold). Any ideas on a cheap replacement. I...

None, never have to choke it a bit even when cold.  Took the engine apart today to check the cam chain.  It looked like it was a 1/2 tooth advanced but once...
