The Hollywood Reporter has picked up the story of HUlk Hogan's reality TV show getting picked up by CMT. The project, titled 'Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling' is set for a fall debut after CMT ordered eight episodes from the series. Ten celebrities will be competing for the title of "Celebrity All-Star Wrestling Champion" by participating in challenges and elimination matches. Two former wrestlers still to be announced will be training the celebrities while Hogan and his buddy and former WCW President Eric Bischoff will be the judges. Hogan will be credited as creator and executive producer.

A couple of months ago Brooke Hogan was pissed at her dad for having a secret relationship with her best friend behind everyone's back. After a few blogs bashing her daddy, Brooke started to feel better about the situation and now it all seems right with the world. Their relationship is so fine that she even let her daddy rub her, umm, err, ass and legs by putting some type of oil while relaxing by the pool. Creepy. The two were joined by another busty blond who's name is unknown. Maybe he's screwing her too. We have ten high res pictures of big daddy Hogan helping his daughter out below.

Newbury cop donates breathalyzers

Georgetown Police Detective Thomas DeJoy accepts a Preliminary Breath Tester and a simulator from Newbury Police Officer Dan Cena

Georgetown - After issuing a summons in Byfield, Officer Dan Cena of the Newbury Police Department stopped to borrow a flashlight from Officer Larry Kent, who was on a Verizon traffic detail along Route 1. Seconds later he was in a devastating head-on crash. It was Feb. 5, 2007.

“After I got the flashlight I headed north on Route 1,” says Cena. “Five seconds later I was hit head-on by a Chevy S-10 driven by Robert Nolan of Rowley. At the last second he crossed over Route 1 at 76 mph and hit me head-on. I just couldn’t get out of the way.

“My car spun sideways on Route 1, ending up in both lanes. My air bags deployed, the wiring caught on fire, and there was smoke everywhere. I tried to open the door, but it only opened 7-8 inches. I put my leg on the console to push it open, and realized that my left leg was broken in several places below the knee.

“At that point Officer Steve Jenkins helped me out of my cruiser and dragged me a safe distance away from it. It was 6 degrees outside.”

Nolan was charged with OUI third offense, and with causing serious bodily injury, according to Cena.

Doctors at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport discovered that the accident had broken both Cena’s tibia and fibula bones in his left leg. He has had several operations on the leg. Doctors estimated a one-year recovery time, and it is now beyond a year with more operations on the horizon to remove scar tissue from the injuries. He says he feels the accident shows that no one is safe from drunk drivers, not even the police.

While recovering at home following the accident, Cena would watch the news on TV.

“I was overwhelmed by how many people get killed in these drunk driving accidents, and yet people still continue to do it,” says Cena. “My dad was talking with [Rowley Police Chief] Mike Reilly, and got the idea for a fundraiser to bring awareness of how serious the drunk driving issue is.

“My brother John was a heavyweight professional wrestler, so we held a wrestling event at Triton Regional High School. It raised $28,000 for alcohol education and drunk driving prevention. We gave $1,000 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving and $5,000 to the Trista Zinck Memorial Scholarship.”

Cena wanted to make sure the rest of the money raised also went to good use. He started bouncing ideas back and forth with Newbury Police Sgt. Patty Fisher.

“I came up with the idea of purchasing top quality breathalyzing equipment and donating it to area police forces, and ran that by her,” says Cena. “She agreed, so I drafted a letter to area police chiefs asking them if they would like free equipment.”

Cena heard back from Georgetown, West Newbury, Groveland, Rowley, Newbury, Amesbury and Merrimac, and also offered the equipment to Newburyport and Salisbury.

Cena recently came to Georgetown and presented the police department with top grade equipment, a $500 Drager Preliminary Breath Tester [PBT] and a $500 Simulator, used to test PBTs to make sure they are working correctly. Both machines meet all the state requirements, says Cena.

“The older breathalyzers were large and cumbersome to carry in a cruiser,” says Cena. “This is top grade equipment.”

This is a good time for the Georgetown Police Department to get these convenient and portable devices. It is prom and graduation season. The Georgetown Middle/High School Senior Prom is scheduled for May 16.

Georgetown Police Detective Tom DeJoy says the new equipment will be available for use at the Senior Prom.

“If any officer or chaperone approaches us with concerns about an individual, we can basically use it as a passive test,” says DeJoy. “It can pick up alcohol fumes when people are speaking. You can certainly enjoy your prom without including alcohol.”

Some Georgetown parents will be conducting a 24-hour alcohol and drug free Senior Celebration on Thursday, June 5, with participants meeting at Erie 4 Fire Station to start to the celebration, according to school personnel.

All these months past the accident, Cena’s leg is still bothering him, but he is doing physical therapy twice a week.

Cena was about to be made sergeant when the drunk driver ran into his cruiser last year. He had passed his exam, and the sergeant position he was in line for came up on January 1, 2008, before he was well enough to fill it.

“You lost not only the position but the money,” says DeJoy to Cena at the Georgetown Police Station. “That accident changed your life and your future. You just never know when you’re going to be a victim.”
Cena hopes his future won’t be quite that bad.

“I’ll probably be back [at work on the force] by June at the latest,” says Cena. “That exam is good for two years. I’m hoping to be made sergeant sometime after September. Time will tell.”
DeJoy praises Cena for donating the police equipment.

“I’d like to thank Dan for donating these items,” says DeJoy. “He took a negative thing that happened to him and turned it into a positive by donating this equipment to help us get drunk drivers off the road.”

Cena is cautiously optimistic about how much of an impact the new equipment will have on drunk driving.

“You’ll never stop it,” says Cena. “Hopefully we’ll equip our officers with the best equipment possible, in an attempt to curb it, or prevent it from happening.”

Wacky TNA Title of the Week: The Egotistical Eight…

[]

TNA Impact Begins…NOW!

-We get highlights of last week's show.

-Tenay and West welcome us to the show.

The Motor City Machine Guns (Sabin and Shelley) vs. Shark Boy and Curry Man

Curry Man and Sabin to begin. Lock up and off the ropes, a tackle and Curry Man dances on Sabin. They trade arm drags, off the ropes and a dropkick by Sabin. Alex tags in, snap mare and he bites Curry Man! He says it is spicy. Tag to Sabin, they double team Curry Man and end with a double suplex and kicks. Sharky dives in, they atomic drop him into Curry Man, and they double teams to him. Curry Man tosses Alex, Sabin fights back and takes a kick by Curry Man and a Thesz press from Sharky. FIN DROP follows. Sharky lays the boots to him in the corner, an Irish whip and Sabin grabs Sharky and sets him on top, but Sharky gets a RANA on Sabin. Tag to Curry Man, places him in the corner and gets the ass attack. Curry Man up top, kicks away Alex but Sabin tosses Curry Man off of the top. Alex in with an RVD like kick off of the top. Off the ropes and a DDT/flatliner combo to Sharky and Curry Man. Alex tosses Sharky to the floor, and then Curry Man. STEREO SUICIDE DIVES onto Sharky and Curry Man!

It is then that the music hits and Petey and Steiner make their way out. They beat down Petey and then Steiner levels them and we get a DQ.

Winners: No Contest @ 4:45

-Petey gets the Canadian Destroyer on Sharky, and he has fully morphed into Mini-Pump, with the dye job. Steiner says Angle lost last week because of him, and now at Sacrifice he will beat Joe for the title and he will take Angle's gold medals and make him his personal bitch.

-Angle rushes out and he and Steiner brawl. He tosses Petey to the floor and then gets an ankle lock on Steiner. Petey is in with the pipe and lays out Angle, making the save. Steiner places Angle in the recliner, and Samoa Joe comes out to make the save for Angle. He clears the ring and stands tall.

-TO THE BACK and JB is with AJ. Tomko was injured in Japan in "an MMA fight/he was suspended" and AJ has to find a new partner. Cornette says he needs JB, because tonight he reveals the 8-men that will make up the rest of the tag teams for the Deuces Wild Tournament. Cornette says it is Thursday, IMPACT, he has more stuff to do so AJ is on his own to find a new partner, if not, he is out of the tournament.

-Back from commercial and West hypes the main event.

~THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE SPEAK~
Mike Tenay is in the ring, and brings out Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. They feel up Tenay a bit as he breaks down the Knockout Makeover Battle Royal. Tenay asks if they are ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. Love says they aren't worried, they don't sweat anything or anyone because that would make their makeup run. As far as the match goes, they want to make sure that the makeover goes to someone who needs it, like her. We see Gail Kim on the big screen bald. Then they show ODB bald. Love then runs down the crowd, and Sky says they can look all they want, but no one can ever touch the beautiful people.

This brings out Kim and ODB. ODB says that maybe they can't touch them, but she can put her hands all over those big old fake fun bags all she wants. ODB and Gail shove them down and they brawl. Sky and Love bail and they blur Love's top, as she may have been exposed. Don't blur that shit you need all the ratings you can get. ODB calls them hookers without customers for the night, and then says they will meet later tonight and also promises that one of them will assume their favorite position, flat on their back.

-JB is with AJ. He goes to find Booker T and he and Kurt cross paths. He asks if he has talked to Karen, AJ says no and Kurt says to keep it that way. AJ goes to meet with Booker and asks about being his partner. Booker asks who he is and asks if he has a pass to be back here. AJ says he has held all the titles and is a decorated champion, and Booker BERRIES HIM; asking if he beat JB for those titles. Booker says he is not giving autographs and tells AJ to leave. Ouch.

-In the back with Joe and Nash. Nash holds the title as Lauren asks about the tree-way and tonight's tag match. Joe says he and Nash saw it coming and he welcomes it. He is counting the days, because he loses competition and destroying people. They will also discover he loves being the champ. Nash says not to forget the money, the money Joe.

Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Match: Eric Young and Kaz vs. LAX (Homicide y Hernandez) w/Salinas

Hernandez and Eric to begin. Lock up and to the corner they go, an Irish whip, Lair corner flip by Eric, back in and Hernandez levels him. Kaz tags in, as does Cide and they lock up, side headlock by Cide, off the ropes and a headlock take down by Kaz. Cide escapes, of the ropes and an arm drag by Kaz. A slam and then a springboard leg drop gets 2. Off the ropes, an atomic drop and dropkick by Kaz connect. Blind tag by Hernandez, he flies in with a shoulder block. The ref didn't see it and misses a roll up by Cide. Hernandez tags in, neck breaker by Cide and then the catapult in the lariat and back splash by Cide. Hernandez with a bear hug now. Kaz works to escape, forearm shots and off the ropes, a boot and the Mexican Back Breaker is countered and rights by Kaz. Off the ropes and a springboard and Hernandez catches him, SIT OUT POWERBOMB gets 2! Tag to Cide, head butts to Kaz and then rights follow. Off the ropes, and an overhead toss by Cide gets a cover for 2. Tag to Hernandez, off the ropes and double corner attack and then Hernandez gets a Vader body attack that levels Kaz. Tag to Cide, Hernandez has Kaz on his shoulders and Kaz escapes (sloppily) the super gringo cutter and dropkicks Hernandez. Eric tags in, attacks all and a northern light son Cide gets 2. Hernandez clotheslines Kaz to the floor, after some counters Cide gets a roll up on Eric for the win.

Winners: LAX @ 5:30 via pin

-Eric is upset with himself and Kaz is pissed that they lost. They knuckle up with LAX and show respect after the bout. Cide has the mic and calls out Hector Guerrero to the ring, because they got something to say to him. After a commercial break Guerrero is in the ring and Cide says to look at him because he is talking. They studied tapes of the Guerrero's and his brother Eddie. Cide says they have respect for Eddie and they wanted to be like him and the brothers; Mondo, Chavito, Eddie and Hector. Cide says they respect the whole family, and especially him. At Sacrifice, they want him to be in their corner to guide them to greatness, the tag team titles. Guerrero asks if he wants the Guerrero family fame and knowledge? At Sacrifice they will take the titles home! They shake. Tenay and West actually shut up during that entire thing until the end when it was time to talk.

-Traci is with Cornette and h says he can tolerate her, and he will think about her proposal. Morgan is here and says they know what he can do. He want sin the eight man group for the tag tournament. Cornette says Morgan will have to wait until later like everyone else. Kip James attacks Morgan as retaliation from last week, and security fills the office.

-Angelina Love and Velvet Sky shake their asses while they walk. I APPROVE.

-JB is with AJ, looking for a partner. AJ goes to Kevin Nash and he is with Christy Hemme. He is discussing her dreams of kinkiness. She promises to rock AJ later, in the tag match. AJ asks Nash about being his partner, AJ says there is big money there. Nash says it is with the champ, and AJ says Joe is the champ. Nash agrees and leaves. At least he knew who AJ was.

ODB and Gail Kim vs. Angelina Love and Velvet Sky

ODB mocks the entrance of Love and Sky, tremendous. ODB and Love to begin, and Love is OFFENDED by ODB's presence. They shove each other, ODB gets a slam and then slams the face of Love into the mat. Sky and Kim tag in, Sky spears her and chokes her out. To the corner, Kim avoids her and then gets a clothesline. A dropkick and then a slam by Kim. Love nails her, and distracts her enough to bring ODB in. Kim tries the lucha run up arm drag, but Love trips her up and Kim gets crotched. Sky slams her down and we head to a commercial @ 2:05.

We are back from commercial @ 5:20 as Love is in control of Kim. Love slams her head repeatedly off of the mat, slaps ODB and then as the ref is distracted Kim takes a double team beat down. Kim manages a roll up in the corner for 2. Another roll up for 2, but then takes a clothesline. Love covers for 2. Off the ropes, Kim reverses and they then double clothesline each other. Tags to ODB and Sky. ODB cleans house on both Sky and Love. Cross body by Love, caught and ODB gets the sack of shit slam and kips up. Sky on the attack, but ODB takes control with the 2nd rope Thesz press for 2. Kim tosses Love, ODB escapes the necktie slam and gets a running powerslam on Sky for the win.

Winners: Gail Kim and ODB @ 8:20 via pin

-After the match Love tosses ODB and attacks Kim. Kim fights back, ODB in and they shoot her off the ropes, but Love escapes. And now Roxxi is out and attacks Love! She tosses her back in and Love is in trouble. They all take turns beating on Love, and then Roxxi gets the VOODOO CRUSHER! ODB offers her a drink from the flask and she takes it!

-JB is with Storm and Roode. Roode reads the paper while Storm and Jackie drink. Hilarity ensues due to James Storm. AJ is here and still needs partner. He offers Storm "grandpa's cough syrup" and Storm declines, and then calls Karen a skank. Roode gets involved and says there are two of them and only one of AJ, since Tomko is gone. Roode declines tagging with AJ and tells him to go and bug someone else. Storm and Jackie take all the beer and AJ is a sad panda. JB sees someone enter the room, and AJ asks him to be the partner and he apparently agrees.

Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Match: The Rock & Rave Infection (Rave and Hoyt) w/Hemme vs. AJ Styles and Super Eric

AJ and Rave to begin. Off the ropes and a side headlock by AJ. Off the ropes and AJ with a backdrop. High knee drop and a cover for 2. Tag to Super Eric, and Rave runs to his corner for a tag. Hoyt in and Super Eric tries a shoulder block and nothing. The same the second time, goes for #3 and gets a flying forearm that takes Hoyt down. AJ tags in, Super Eric back in as well and they get a double hip toss. AJ looks happy and covers Hoyt for 2. Hoyt with rights, tag to Rave but he'll eat the sweet dropkick buffet from AJ. Hemme distracts AJ, and says he is with Karen. A slam on Rave is countered, then AJ manages rights but Hemme trips him up and Rave gets an STO that turns AJ inside out. Hoyt tags in, cross body by AJ caught and Hoyt slams him down after playing air guitar on his ass. Rave in now and they double elbow AJ and then double drop elbows and a cover for 2. AJ fights out of a neck crank, PELE to Rave! Diving tag to Super Eric, he cleans house. Off the ropes and takes Rave to the corner, gets Hoyt and then tries a double DVD, they stop it and AJ is in to even the odds. Rave tries his wacky arm bar, Super Eric stops that, RANA by AJ to Hoyt and then an Enziguri to Rave, DVD by Super Eric to Rave and that is all.

Winners: AJ Styles and Super Eric @ 5:30 via pin

-AJ and Super Eric pose and celebrate.

-Team 3D, LAX, Cage and Rhino and Super Eric and AJ have all qualified.

-Sting is here to say this place is a Looney bin. Sting says the business changes people, and that egos take control. That was useless.

-Back form commercial and Tenay and West discuss the innovative TNA matches. At Sacrifice, we will see a new innovation. THE TERROR DOME~! A mixture of the cage match and ultimate X, apparently 30-feet high.

Daizee Haze vs. Cheerleader Melissa

Lock up and a takedown by Melissa. Go behind by Haze, headlock takedown and she has control as of now. Melissa gets to her feet, escapes with an arm bar and side headlock. Elbows by Haze, off the ropes and a shoulder block by Melissa. Off the ropes again, hip toss blocked and an arm drag by Haze. Head scissor by Haze connects, and this ANGERS Melissa, who tosses her across the ring. Chops by Melissa and then a hair toss across the ring. Snap suplex by Melissa and a cover for 2. Haze counters a backdrop suplex, chops now and Melissa just kills her with a forearm. Heart punch by Haze, off the ropes, her kick is countered and Melissa gets the KUDO DRIVER and that is all.

Winners: Cheerleader Melissa @ 2:40 via pin

-TO THE BACK as Lauren is with Steiner and Petey. Steiner says all men are NOT created equal. He is a freak, and Joe's chances of winning drastically go down. He has a 66 2/3 chance of winning. Yeah. Dear lord he is confusing. I lost it here, he is doing some new fucking math here. The numbers apparently don't lie, 43% of the time. Steiner calls Joe a fat ass and says that he will win the title.

Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle vs. Scott Steiner and Petey Williams w/Rhaka Khan

It's good to see Angle wearing kneepads, that dude misses too many moonsaults to NOT wear them. Ask Muta. Petey and Joe to begin, Joe starts kicking his ass with jabs and chops, and then sidesteps a cross body try. Chops and kicks to Petey, knee drop off of the ropes and he tags in Angle. Uppercuts by Angle and then a short-armed clothesline gets 2. Drop toehold by Petey and then the dropkick to the back of Angle. To the corner and Steiner tags in. Chops in the corner by Steiner and Angle is down. Off the ropes, Angle avoids a clothesline and gets an overhead belly to belly on Steiner. Tag to Joe, head butts to Steiner and then jabs. Eye poke by Steiner slow Joe down, and he slams him to the corner. Chops by Steiner, off the ropes and a reversal and corner splash by Joe. Petey blind tagged in and gets a missile dropkick to Joe. We'll head to commercial @ 3:25.

We're back from commercial @ 6:40 and Steiner gets a clothesline, elbow drop and pushups. Petey tags in, rights to Joe, off the ropes and Joe gets an atomic drop. Steiner knees Joe in the back and Petey levels Joe with a spin kick and covers for 2. Steiner tags in and gets a chinlock. Joe escapes, but Steiner gets an overhead belly to belly on Joe and covers for 2. To the corner, chops by Steiner and then an Irish whip, charges in and…STJOE~! Petey grabs Joe's hair and slams him down, which means BOTH men are down in the ring. Tags to Petey and he eats a boot as he dive sin on Joe. Tag to Angle…NO! Joe flips off Angle and starts beating down Petey. Flapjack on Petey, ENZIGURI to Steiner. Jawbreaker by Petey, but Joe back with a snap slam and gets 2 as Steiner saves Petey. Angle tosses Steiner, and then attacks Joe! Joe levels him with a kick, and then gets the MUSCLE BUSTA on Petey for the win.

Winners: Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle @ 10:40 via pin

-After the match Angle gets a GERMAN on Joe, and then locks in the ankle lock. Steiner chases Angle away with the steel pipe and then lays out Joe. Steiner celebrates with the TNA World Title.

-TO THE BACK and JB is with Cornette. He plans to go out there and SHOCK the world!

-We get replays of what happened in the main event.

Official WWE Smackdown Preview
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.02.2008

Three big title matches highlight tonight's episode!

From WWE.com:

Atlantic City, N.J., is the gambling capital of the east coast, and when Friday Night SmackDown rolls in this week, there will be a lot of wheeling and dealing on the boardwalk.

This Friday is "Championship Friday", as all three SmackDown titles – the World Heavyweight Championship, the United States Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship – will be on the line for a blockbuster edition of Friday Night SmackDown!

Ever since winning the gold from Edge at WrestleMania XXIV, World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker has forged a path of destruction through WWE. But, this Friday he will face the 7-foot-3 behemoth, The Great Khali. The Deadman has battled many giant Superstars over the years, but what will happen when he tangles with the Punjabi giant?

At Backlash, United States Champion Matt Hardy finally got what he wanted – revenge against MVP, and in the process, the United States Championship. With a chance to regain the title this Friday night, what will SmackDown's Franchise Playa be willing to do? As reigning champion, how tenaciously will Hardy fight to keep what is finally his?

In the remaining championship battle, WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison will defend the gold against Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore. The champions have defeated Moore & Yang in a pair of non-title matches this month, but just last week, "The Redneck" defeated Morrison on ECW and "The Reject" pinned The Miz on SmackDown. With the title finally on the line on SmackDown, which duo will come out on top when it really counts?

For weeks now, Colin Delaney has been vying for a coveted WWE contract. He gets another shot next Tuesday night on the 100th edition of ECW when he faces ECW General Manager Armando Estrada. But before that battle, Estrada has brokered a deal with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero to have the young upstart face undefeated superpower Vladimir Kozlov this Friday night. With Kozlov crushing all of his opponents, what kind of shape will Delaney be in after he crosses paths with the powerful Russian?

And, after debuting on color commentary for SmackDown at Backlash, "Hardcore Legend" and three-time WWE Champion Mick Foley will be coming to Friday nights for good.

Q&A with Bruno Sammartino

I conducted a phone interview with wrestling's "Living Legend," Bruno Sammartino, who talked about what he's been up to lately, his thoughts on the WWE Hall of Fame and his memories of wrestling in Baltimore. Sammartino, 72, also spoke with Sun reporter Childs Walker about drug testing and the state of WWE nearly a year after the Chris Benoit tragedy for an article in Friday's editions of The Sun.

I know that you still work out on a regular basis. What else keeps you busy these days?

There are people interested in doing a movie of my life, and so we have been busy with that. We went back to Europe to show where we hid from the Nazis during the war, so we went back and shot that. And we’ve done a lot of interviews. I also do some personal appearances. I don’t do a whole lot of them because I like to be home. My wife and I, thank God, we’re together. You never can make up all those years when you were on the road, but now that I’m here I will not keep myself busy because I want to be home. I have my sons here and my grandchildren here and I like to spend time with all of them, and I can’t get enough of that.

You know, in my day, it wasn’t like it is today where these athletes make millions of dollars. In my day, you made a good living, and I’m extremely grateful for everything that came my way after coming from Europe, but you didn’t make the big bucks back then. Don’t get me wrong my wife and I, we’re fine but if you have the opportunity to go pick up a payday someplace, I don’t turn my back to it. It’s not that I really enjoy the traveling because I despise traveling. The only thing I like about doing autograph shows is that the people who used to be fans are so wonderful. They’ll come over and give such wonderful compliments. Younger people say, “You were a role model for me growing up. My parents love you.” You hear these wonderful comments and it really touches you that people have these positive things to say about you. It makes me feel good that I never did anything negative.

I tell you how seriously I took my role in my life and what I was. I was the world wrestling champion, and I would be in restaurants, and being Italian, especially if I was in an Italian restaurant, a lot of time I’d go for dinner and people would say, “Let’s have a glass of wine.” I would loved to have had a glass of wine, but if it was during the afternoon and there were people there with kids, I would never, never touch it because I was afraid that if they recognized me and saw me drinking, I thought it just wasn’t a positive thing. I wanted people to have a positive image of this wrestling champion. I really tried to conduct myself properly.

During the war, I should have died. I lost a brother and a sister, and I came down with rheumatic fever. After the war, my mom brought me back to our home what was left of it and for three years I laid there. My mother swore that she had lost two children and she wasn’t about to lose another one. We had no doctors, no medication nothing. That’s why when I came to America I was such a skeleton. My mother is the reason why I lived. She did more for me than any doctor could have done to keep me alive. So, that’s another thing that I was very, very strong about when I started to make a name for myself. I was never going to do anything that would have brought shame to my family. I owed too much, and I wanted them to be proud to say that they were Bruno Sammartino’s mother and father.

You have been an outspoken critic on some of the problems in the wrestling industry. Do you think wrestlers need a union, and will that ever happen?

No. I tried to get a union organized in the 60s. It will never happen. They guys that are making money don’t want to do anything to rock the boat with the promoters, and the little guys are afraid to do anything or say anything because they’re afraid of being fired on the spot. That’s the mentality, unfortunately.

I understand that you have no interest in being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. How would you feel if they inducted you without your consent, just because they feel you deserve to be in it?

When they started that Hall of Fame, Vince McMahon was going to show me, so he never considered me to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. What he didn’t expect was the outcry of the fans. They said, “How the heck could you call this a Hall of Fame when Bruno’s name was never even mentioned?” It backfired on him so bad that the following year or two years he didn’t even have a Hall of Fame. He figured let it die down. And then when he started again, again I wasn’t mentioned and again he got bombarded pretty darn big. So then because of all the pressure, he finally got his attorney to call my attorney to try to talk me into coming to their Hall of Fame.

The thing is this: I have been extremely critical of everything that this man has done to wrestling since he took over extremely critical. I so resent all the vulgarity, the nudity, the profanity and all the ugliness, and I really was outspoken about the drugs going back to 15-20 years ago. And after that, I got away from it all, but still, if anybody ever questioned me, I remained that way. Now, what the heck kind of a guy would I be if, after expressing myself so loud and clear about how I feel about this organization, that then I would accept to be part of them into this Hall of Fame. I’d be the biggest hypocrite there was. And besides that, when fans tell me, “Yeah, but you belong,” I tell them, “OK, if I went in the Hall of Fame, where would you go to see it. You know, baseball has Cooperstown. If I’m in the Hall of Fame, wouldn’t there be a place for you to go and see it and see all these people that have been inducted?” They said, “Uh, I don’t know.” “Yeah, because it doesn’t exist.

McMahon started this it’s all just a moneymaking thing. He puts out DVDs of the new Hall of Fame inductees, and then his TV goes to 126 countries and they’re selling these DVDs, and they don’t even give these guys anything. I understand when you get inducted into the Hall of Fame, they give you $5,000, and then they go ahead worldwide and sell the DVDs and I don’t think you get anything. So, it’s all a gimmick. It’s nonsense. But more than that, even if it was legit, I simply would never accept for the simple reason of what I’ve told you. Now, your question was, “Well what if they decide to do it whether you like it or not?” Well, I don’t know if there is anything I could do by law probably not. But I would again be outspoken and make it very clear that this is being done and by no means do I approve of it or want any part of it. I’d want all the fans to know that.

You reportedly had a meeting with Vince McMahon in Pittsburgh a couple years ago to discuss some kind of business arrangement. Were you ever close to an agreement?

I’m glad you brought that up because I want to clear the air with that. [The Wrestling Observer’s Dave] Meltzer said something about how resentful I am, yet I actually met and tried to negotiate a deal with McMahon. Not true. This is the time when I told you we went to Europe to shoot my town, the mountains where we were hiding during the war and all that kind of stuff. Jerry McDevitt, McMahon’s lawyer, was contacted by Marty Lazzaro, my lawyer, because we were doing our story and we needed to use the Civic Arena, which is where I wrestled all those years, and that’s where wrestling still is. It turns out that WWE was going to be there for one of their TV shows. We knew that there was going to be a ring put up for that. Marty contacted the arena and asked if we could use the ring to film for about 15-20 minutes. They gave us the permission to do that, but because it was McMahon’s show, they’d have to get it OK’d with them, too. So that’s when I told Marty that I didn’t want any part of this. He said, “Wait a minute.” He said he heard from McDevitt and it was fine. He said all [McDevitt] wanted was to have a meeting between him and McMahon and Marty and me when we come there to do the filming. I said, “Marty, I’m not interested in meeting with the guy.” Marty said, “What have you got to lose? Please, let’s meet with them. I want to see this guy in person and I want to hear just what they have to say.”

I cannot tell how you how much I didn’t want any part of this, but, for Marty, I said OK. But I said, “Marty, I’m telling you right up front. I’m not interested in anything with these people.” So we met with them. Vince acted like there were never any ill feelings between he and I. He acted very friendly “Hey, you son of a gun, you look great.” So we went in a room, and somebody said that Vince has nothing but respect for the old-timers. And boy did that give me the opening. That’s when I had to open my mouth and I have no regrets about it. I said, “I’m sorry, but I think you have shown nothing but disrespect for the old-timers. You bring some of the old-timers here, whether it’s Lou Albano or [Killer] Kowalski or Domenic DeNucci or [Baron Mikel] Scicluna or whoever, and whether it’s a big show or a pay-per-view, and you toss these guys $1,000, $1,500 or maybe $2,000 if they’re really lucky. But yet you bring in Mike Tyson and you give him $3.5 million to be outside the ring refereeing a special event. You brought Pete Rose and other athletes from baseball and football and you give them six figures for an appearance. People that have done nothing for this business, and a lot of them look at it as a joke. But those who have given their whole life to this business and never made any real money, what do they get for all those years of banging their bodies up? And a lot of them are physically practically handicapped. They get a bone thrown at them. This is respect for the old-timers? Give me a break.”

I said to Vince: “You could never use me in any way and show the disrespect you have shown for wrestlers. If you and I could ever work out anything, you would have to show me the respect you showed Mike Tyson.” That was my way of slamming the door and having him be the guy to refuse, because I know them. When it comes to wrestlers, they’ll throw you a bone. But if it’s a baseball player, football player or movie star or Mike Tyson, they want to show that they’ll make big-money deals and they’ll give out hundreds of thousands or millions. So at that point, I got up and said, “Whatever you want to discuss, discuss it with Marty, because there is nothing else here for me to talk about.” To those who think that I went there to really have a serious meeting to work something out with him, they couldn’t be more mistaken. I did it to please Marty Lazzaro, but there’s no deal they would have made that I would have come out of there and said, “Hey, great, let’s go for it.”

You were a big favorite in Baltimore for many years. Do you have any special memories of wrestling in Baltimore?

I loved the Baltimore Civic Center. I have nothing but pleasant memories. It was a nice arena, and I was there from the time they opened it. The fans used to make me feel like I was really, really welcome. Not that Baltimore was unique in that. I used to get goose bumps at Madison Square Garden. Every time I went to the ring the place would explode and they would chant my name. Boston was like that. Philadelphia, too. I always loved going to Baltimore because I loved the arena and the whole atmosphere. But also, there was Little Italy and a restaurant called Sabatino’s, and I used to go there and eat after the matches. Sometimes [DeNucci] was with me; a couple times I went with Andre. I always looked forward to that because I would eat around 1 or 2 o’clock in the afternoon because I wanted to be fully digested by the time I went to the ring. But afterwards I would be as hungry as can be. In every city, I had my favorite place. In Baltimore, it was Sabatino’s. You ever hear of it?

Oh, sure, I’ve been there quite a few times.

Is it still there?

It is.

Oh my God. Anyway, Baltimore was great for me because, if it was a Saturday night, for example, it was a short trip to get to Pittsburgh the next day. And like I said, the fans were always extremely great with me, and I knew where to go to get a terrific meal afterwards.

One of your most famous matches took place in Baltimore on April 30, 1977, when you lost the WWWF title to Superstar Billy Graham. What are your thoughts of that night? I know at that point you were looking to slow down your schedule. Was it a relief to finally not be the champion anymore?

Well, it was more than that. Let me tell you what happened. When I was champion for the first eight years, they had me on such a ridiculous schedule. I was hurting from head to toe. I was wrestling every single night. Two Sundays out of the month, I would go to Toronto because I had spent two years there and I had promised [promoter] Frank Tunney who gave me a break and was a good man that when I went back to [the WWWF] that I would still come in when he wanted me for the Maple Leaf Gardens. So, two weeks out of the month I would wrestle seven days a week, and the other two weeks I would wrestle six days a week and get to go home on Sunday. I was also making tours to Japan and Australia. [Vince McMahon Sr.] would not run Madison Square Garden without me, so he would always arrange my trips so that I would wrestle in the Garden on Monday and leave Tuesday morning for Japan or Australia. And I’d have to be back for the next Garden show. When I got through with a tour, I wouldn’t even go home. I’d be flying in from Australia or Japan to New York to be there in time for the Garden.

After eight years, I was hurting so bad. And anybody who really knows me will tell you that I will never even take an Aspirin much less anything stronger for the aches and pains. It just reached a point where I told McMahon that my body hurts from head to toe; I can’t train properly because I hurt. I have to get out for a while. I need a layoff from wrestling. Other people said I retired, but I never said I was retiring; I needed to heal. I said to McMahon, “I have to bow out.” I did this on my seventh year. He kept stalling me and stalling me until I got angry and I said, “Vince, if you don’t make arrangements for whoever you want as your next big guy, I am just going to take a plane to Pittsburgh and I’m going to take three, four, five, six months off.” So at that point they went and got a new guy Ivan Koloff. After I lost the belt to Koloff and I came home, I really took care of myself and I rested real good. Now that I was no longer tied up with the WWWF, all the promoters from everywhere were contacting me and trying to get dates on me because now they didn’t have to go through McMahon. I refused until I really started feeling well. And then I really started loving wrestling again. I would go to St. Louis for [Sam] Muchnick for a match or two, and then I would be off five days. If I went to Indianapolis Dick The Bruiser and I teamed up there I would take three shots but then I would take off six, seven days. I would go to Japan for two weeks and then take off two weeks. So I loved it and I was getting a good buck. The promoters all wanted me and they were willing to give me a little bigger percentage of the gate. I was happy because I wasn’t battering my body, I was home a lot and I was making a good buck for that era. I was making as much money as I had been making as the champion.

So, McMahon contacts me and he says, “Bruno, please, we have to have you back, just for a year.” I said, “No, I can’t.” He met me at the airport with his son Vince Jr. and he says to me, “Look, Bruno, one year is all we ask until I can get somebody else really ready to take over.” The other part of the deal was that I wouldn’t have to wrestle on the secondary clubs; I would just do all the major clubs. Well, I thought that’s not too bad. That would mean maybe wrestling three times a week, sometimes four. I thought I could handle that for one year. Well, one year went to two, two went to three and on the fourth year I broke my neck. I was scared for a while because I couldn’t feel anything on my left side, but thank God there were some great neurosurgeons here and things started coming back. Anyway, I came back and I said, “I’m done. If I wrestle anymore, it’ll be a shot here and there, but not this title thing.” So I wrestled Billy Graham in Baltimore, and he took the title and became the champion for like nine months. I went on and wrestled here and there, and at the very end of my career, I wrestled Larry Zbyszko. We sold out everywhere. In fact, we had a 1 o’clock show at the Capital Centre in Washington, and then that night we wrestled in Baltimore and we sold both buildings out. In Shea Stadium, we packed the place. So that was a pretty nice way for me to retire. Japan heard I was retiring and they begged me to come and do a farewell tour. They treated me well through the years, so I couldn’t say no. On Oct. 4, 1981, I wrestled at The Meadowlands. Oct. 5, I took a plane for Tokyo, got there on the 6th, which was my 46th birthday, I did my tour, I came home and I was retired.

I know that you have spoken in the past about how WWE talked you into making sporadic appearances in the ring after you had officially retired and your son, David, was starting out. Your final match took place in Baltimore on Aug. 29, 1987, when you teamed with Hulk Hogan against King Bundy and One Man Gang. Did you know when you stepped in the ring that night that was going to be your last match?

I was very angry when I found out I was put in that position. In 1985, they wanted me to go back in the ring because Boston wasn’t doing well. Hulk Hogan, who everybody thinks is such a big attraction, was the champion. I turned it down. But then they went to my kid and said, “You know, we could make a tag match if you could talk your father into putting the tights on, and it would be a great boost for you in establishing yourself.” My son came to me, and I said, “David, if they want to push you, they can do it with you just like they do everybody else.” Anyway, I didn’t want it to be said that I didn’t want to help my kid, and I did, but I was resentful of it that McMahon put me in a situation like that. It happened more often as time went on, and I thought, “That’s it. It’s time for me to make my exit.” I didn’t even know about that match [in Baltimore]. When I found out about it, I didn’t say a word to anybody, but I was disgusted and angry. I came to Baltimore, and I thought to myself: “That’s it. They got me into this one, and I’ll do it, and then they can all go you know where.” That night, I hated being there not Baltimore, but the whole situation. And that was my last match.

How did you feel about being teamed up with Hogan and doing the posing routine with him after the match?

I was light. I was down to about maybe 230 at that time. Look at who was in the ring: Hogan was all juiced up and he was 300-310 pounds; the other two guys Bundy was like 450 pounds, and One Man Gang was like 400 pounds. Here I am at 230 pounds, a shadow of the 275 pounds I was when I first broke into the business in 1959, and they came to me and said that the orders were that I had to pose in the ring. I said, “What do you mean I have to pose?” And they said that’s what Vince emphasized. I guess they wanted me to look foolish next to a guy like Hogan. Here I was at 52 at the time, and I looked in the mirror when I got dressed and I did a pose and I thought to myself, “You know, maybe these people are aware and maybe they’re not. Maybe they know about steroid freaks and maybe they don’t. But they remember me from my heyday when I was a much bigger guy.” I’m looking at myself and I thought: “You know, I’m only about 230, but I’m well-defined. So, yeah, I’ll pose. Two guys are big fat guys, so they aren’t going to make me look bad, and this other guy here I think everybody knows is a steroid freak. Let them see what a person looks like who does natural training without any chemicals and is in his 50s.” Out of anger more than anything else, I went and did those poses.

Is there anything else you wanted to bring out in this interview before we wrap things up?

The McMahon camp say that I won’t go into the Hall of Fame and stuff like that because I’m a very bitter guy. You know, I cannot tell you how much I resent them saying that. I wish that most people on this globe were as happy as I have been in the past 15-20 years. No, I don’t have money to burn, but I’m comfortable and I’m happy because I’m with my family my grandkids and my sons Danny and Darryl are close by. I work out every day sure, I had some setbacks with some surgeries, but I always bounced back real good. I tell everybody that I’m dating my wife again. Every Saturday, we go out to dinner. I think, “My God, if this could only continue.” So, for people who haven’t seen me in so many years to say that I’m a bitter guy, they just haven’t a clue of what a happy, happy guy I really am at this stage of my life.

Chris Benoit's answering machine had many messages on it when authorities found it following the Benoit murder-suicide, most of which they have not released to the public. One of the messages on the machine was from Eddie Guerrero, left the day before he died.

"Under the Ring" exclusive: Interview with TNA Wrestling's Velvet Sky

Phil's note: Normally, when I conduct interviews with professional wrestlers, there is some sort of show or an autograph signing. This time though, there isn't. Velvet Sky, known on the independent circuit as Talia Madison, already appeared in Poughkeepsie on April 20. At the signing, she and fellow TNA wrestler Awesome Kong told me that they could not do an interview with me at the signing without first going through TNA Wrestling.

Velvet Sky, in real life 26-year-old Jamie Szantyr of Waterbury, Conn. regretted not being able to do the interview at Collector's Realm, so she gave me the appropriate contact information to get an interview done.

I'd like to thank Velvet Sky and TNA for agreeing to do the interview. Unfortunately for those in Poughkeepsie, she is not scheduled to appear on TNA's live event at Mid-Hudson Civic Center on May 17. But here's my telephone interview with Velvet Sky.

Phil Strum: Tell me about your background and how you broke into the wrestling business. When was it and how old were you?

Velvet Sky: I was 20 years old. It was back in the end of 2001. I have always been a wrestling fan. Growing up when I was younger, with my dad, I used to watch it. In my high school years, I kind of got out of it. I played sports in high school and I was always athletic, so I wanted to do something athletic after high school. I trained at [former ECW wrestler] Jason Knight's House of Pain.

PS: I've read where you've said "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Elizabeth influenced you.

VS: I followed them in my early childhood days. I can remember back then seeing Elizabeth coming to the ring in her fashionable dresses and Macho Man coming out with his flashy attire and him talking on the mic. I didn't really know who they were back then but they caught my eye. They were the whole package.

PS: So you must think it's pretty cool that TNA has a Macho Man and Elizabeth gimmick going now ("Black Machismo" Jay Lethal and So Cal Val)?

VS: I think it's great. Keep their spirits alive.

PS: Tell me a little bit about what it's like to be a woman breaking into the wrestling business. There's fewer spots and different expectations.
[]

VS: There's fewer spots because that other company keeps hiring these models that can't even wrestle. And for the indie girls who work their asses off, there's limited opportunities. Instead, they hire all these models.

I'm not a fan of that at all. A lot of them say, "Well, it's my dream to be a pro wrestler." That's a lie. If it was your dream, you'd be in wrestling school instead of modeling school.

I got lucky anyways. I came into TNA right around the time they were starting the women's division. I contacted [TNA director of talent relations and former wrestler] Terry Taylor a month prior to "Bound for Glory" [TNA's pay-per-view where they expanded their women's division]. I gave him my contact info. Then, Terry and I talked on the phone.

"Bound for Glory" was not long after that. I was in touch with TNA at the right time.

PS: What's it been like in TNA?

VS: It's great. I've heard that the Knockouts have been among the highest-rated segments on the show for months. We're not prancing around in bra-and-panties and lingerie. We're hard-hitting. When we throw forearms and punches and elbows, you feel those. I can promise you that. I can promise you that.

PS: I believe you. What's been the highlight for you so far in TNA?

VS: Just the recognition. I'm still new to the company. Just that so many people know who I am and my background and want to learn about me. I was told, even from some news sources that Angelina Love and I, for the past four months, have been among the highest-rated segments on the show. It's nice to see that some people might be tuning in just to see me and Angelina Love.

PS: There's been speculation online that perhaps TNA could spin the Knockouts off into their own show.

VS: It would be even better. We've had some of the highest-rated segments among the fans and people are watching and are interested.

PS: You don't think it might water down the product a bit?

VS: It could. But it could work if it's done right. If it's not shoved down people's throats. It might have a good chance of flopping even if we did shove it down people's throats. I'm happy with what we're doing now though too.

PS: Just breaking into TNA. Did you work there before? Did you have any other connections in there already?

VS: Traci Brooks was really pushing for me. She's a really good friend of mine. She was pushing for me to get in there.

We're having a great time. I look forward to going to TNA every two weeks that we do it.

We have a great group of girls. Nobody looks the same. Everyone has something different to offer. We have something called variety! Everybody is just doing their thing.

PS: Is there someone who influenced you early in your career or that was supportive to you early on?

[]  O

VS: There's so many, but one that sticks out is Francine from ECW. She helped me a lot along the way. What to do. She taught me different things and was really helpful to me. I learn a little something from every girl I wrestle. I learn from every girl I work with. I learn about myself and I learn different moves.

PS: Tell me about this battle royal that you have coming up at "Sacrifice."

VS: It's a battle royal, elimination-style. The winner of the match gets a shot at TNA Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong. The loser gets their head shaved.

PS: I'm not sure who's got it worse out of those two.

VS: Well, I would think the loser wouldn't be too happy. I'm hoping, maybe I'll get eliminated first or something. I don't want my hair to go.

PS: Why the name change from Talia Madison to Velvet Sky when you got into TNA?

VS: I own the rights to Talia Madison. That was my name on the indies since I started. TNA wanted to market me in their own name.

On the indie shows, the announcers say "Talia Madison, that's TNA's Velvet Sky." So it helps people that might not know it's me. Make sure people know I'm the same person.

PS: What would you most like to accomplish in the rest of your career?

VS: To stay healthy and keep doing this as long as my body allows me to.

Wrestler Arrested for Suspicion of DUI

Posted May 1st 2008 12:10PM by TMZ Staff

[]

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion, Santino Marella, was arrested at 2:57 AM EST in Tampa, Florida on suspicion of DUI.

Marella, real name Anthony Carelli, was pulled over after cops witnessed his car drifting back and forth -- he had "bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes."

Carelli failed two field sobriety tests -- including one in which he couldn't hold his balance. He told officers he started drinking at midnight, and had three Miller Lights and one Kamikaze. The ol', "I had a couple of beers."

As first reported by Wrestling News World, when Mr. Wrestler was hauled to the Hillsborough County jail, his BAC was under the .08 legal limit -- .061 and .062. But, he took the test nearly two hours after being arrested so he can still be prosecuted.

He was released on $500 bail around an hour ago.

Kevin Nash Part 3

Several months ago, I hung out with TNA Wrestling's Kevin Nash for a few hours.

My print story ran March 3, 2008.

Having talked to Hulk Hogan and Nash face to face in the last several months, I have now talked to two-thirds of the original NWO. Maybe JAWBreaker should contact Scott Hall to complete the trifecta.

Following are comments Nash made that did not appear in my print story. This is the last of three columns with Nash.

Famous moments, Hogan, Benoit, steroids and more

Favorite feud (in no order): Bret, Shawn, Scott Hall, Triple H. "It's amazing, three of the four are two or three of my closest friends. It's something special about doing it with a buddy and going out there and really just tearing it up. It makes it special."

On his WWE friends: "I talk with Shawn Michaels at least once a week." He also keeps in contact with HHH, sometimes by text message. "He works a ton."

On X-Pac: "He's down in Mexico, so I haven't had a chance to talk to him in awhile."

On MTV's wrestling show: "That's rotten TV. That brought us back 10 years."

On his best wrestling moment: "The singular moment that was more impactful to me emotionally (then the formation of the NWO in Daytona Beach) was when I won the belt the first time in Madison Square Garden against Backlund in 1994. I think belts are different now. Back then, that belt just didn't get passed around like it does now. I had all three belts that year (tag-team belts with HBK and the intercontinental belt). Five years to accomplish that in the No. 1 organization to me, that was special. Even though it is a 'work' and it's scripted, you got to be physically able to do it and you gotta be, more importantly, politically able to maneuver through the shark-infested waters backstage."

On the curtain call: "It was four guys that had been up and down the road for the better part of three years, every night, saying goodbye to each other. We asked for permission. McMahon said if it means that much do it. The guys who were staying were upset because we broke 'kayfabe.' People see who we walk out with. Your friends are your friends. It came across to everybody as something that was contrite when it was something that was completely organic. It's just something that just happened. We were successful. In a miserable work environment, we always laughed. As young as guys die, you just never know . . ."

On the "fingerpoke of doom": "That was all set up to realign the NWO and give Goldberg, kinda what they used to do for Hulk, to give him a bunch of guys to go through in the course of the year. Give him like eight or nine heels to go through. And, lo and behold, Bill gets upset at an angle that's done in Salisbury, Md., puts his arms through a limo window and the whole angle is destroyed."

The future of the business: Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, John Cena.

On Hulk Hogan's family problems: "I feel bad for him. I know how much his family means to him. It's rough. Terry's 53 now, I think (Hogan is actually 54). To have everything just fall apart that late in your life . . . if you looked at it, he should be on cruise-control now. To have everything just kind of implode like that, I feel bad for him. I pray for him. I hope things work out for him. No matter what anyone says about him, he's just a basically good guy. A laid-back good guy."

On whether he watches WWE Raw: "I DVR Raw and go through it. I can usually get through it in about seven minutes (laughter). There's not much I watch. I watch Hunter, and I watch Shawn."

On being one of 25 of Raw's best wrestlers ever: "I feel blessed. We were the originals. We were the guys that started Raw, in the Manhattan Center, 100 years ago. It's nice. I've always had a good relationship with Vince, and with the WWE. It's just business-wise, this is a business. That's what this is. I've been fortunate enough to be able call a lot of my own shots and to be able to do the things I want to do. I'm much better at the political part of this business than I am the physical part of this business."

On the Raw skit of Mr. Kennedy playing Nash: "I saw it. It was horrible. It stunk."

On WrestleMania 24 (comment was made before the event): "Cena is their guy. I would have Cena win the belt. That's what I would do. It's not my company, though."

How close were you with Chris Benoit?: "Not very. I knew Nancy much better than I did Chris. When I was Oz, Kevin Sullivan (Nancy's first husband) was my manager. I got to know Nancy."

On the Benoit family tragedy: "It's just brutal. It's a terrible tragedy is what it is. More so for her and the boy. I don't like any kind of abuse to women or kids. I have a real hard time with it. No matter how whacked out I was, I could never do anything to my wife or my son."

On steroids: "The new breed of guys is way different. They don't work like that anymore. My political view is we have a federal government right now that's on this steroids witchhunt, yet they allow tobacco products to be sold, they allow alcohol to be sold. Anabolic steroids may kill 1,000 people per year. I just think our government is so lost. I really don't care if Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds or Ben Johnson took steroids. I just don't. They're saying it's the young kids we have to worry about. If someone told me you've got three choices, your kid can smoke cigarettes, snort methamphetamine or take steroids, I'd say take steroids. I don't condone it. But have I used them in my career? Yes. When I was young, I used 'em. They work. When I was young, doctors said they didn't work. I've taken steroids before, and I know I don't think it would help me hit a baseball. I go down to beachside and see a couple homeless guys get thrown out of the library because it's closing time and they got nowhere to live. But, let's make sure we put an asterisk next to Barry Bonds because who knows what he did. Give me a break."

How bad is it for Petey?

The latest word on the TNA X-Division champion is that he will miss a minimum of 6-weeks. Williams suffered a broken orbital bone at Tuesday's Impact tapings. There is no word on what TNA will do with the X-Division title as of this report.

From rasslin’ ring to peace of yoga

Trish Stratus, former WWE wrestler, strikes a yoga pose at the opening of her yoga studio at the Vaughan Mills mall called Stratusphere Yoga.

By: Michael Power

A back injury four years ago could have spelled the end of Trish Stratus’ professional wrestling career.

It likely would have, she says, were it not for yoga.

At first, Ms Stratus (a Richmond Hill native and longtime resident of the town whose real name is Stratigias) tried physiotherapy to deal with the injury, but got little relief.

A friend had undergone neck surgery and swore the only therapy that helped her mobility afterwards was yoga.

So Ms Stratus signed up for a hot yoga class.

Two-and-a-half months later, after practising yoga regularly, she had dropped the physiotherapy and was back in the ring, ready for action.

“My career was in jeopardy,” she says, sitting cross-legged and shoeless on the long couch in the lounge area of the new yoga studio, just south of Vaughan Mills Mall.

She just opened the facility with her business partner and longtime friend, Janette Lynn.

“I don’t know if it was from being centred from doing yoga and having those moments to yourself, but my body definitely benefited.”

The career she speaks of took her first into fitness modeling before working with the World Wrestling Federation, later re-named World Wrestling Entertainment.

During her tenure in the ring, she was a one-time Hardcore Champion, three-time Babe of the Year and, was also proclaimed Diva of the Decade. She retired in 2006 after nearly seven years in the business. She has also been the host of Canada’s Walk of Fame and The Second City’s Next Comedy Legend.

After quitting the ring, she and Ms Lynn struck upon the idea of a yoga studio teaching classes in various forms of the discipline.

“Yoga is yoga,” Ms Stratus says. “It’s just a bunch of moves. But you can put in into different sequences or gear it to different people. And that’s when it’s called a certain type of yoga.”

The two partnered to create a 5,200-square-foot studio, dubbed Stratusphere Yoga, which offers classes in various styles of yoga, including ashtanga (an energetic, athletic form of yoga), hatha yoga (a slower pace) and hot yoga, where a heated room allows for a deeper stretch. A single class at the studio costs $18 and a 30-day, unlimited pass is $160.

The three-room studio features other classes, such as a pilates class, a class called Momma & Me and a restorative yoga class for those recovering from injuries or looking for a lighter workout.

Another class, called Lifestyle, focuses on how to eat properly. Wholistic nutritionists will teach students about topics such as using healthy fats and how to cook with vegetables.

The studio features a lounge with a library of yoga books that Ms Stratus hopes will serve as a gathering place for students at the facility.

In August, the Discovery HD and travel + escape channels will air Ms Stratus’ new travel show, also called Stratusphere. In the show, she visits international locations where locals teach her a task, such as paragliding in the Himalayas, that she tries for the first time.

The Capri Lounge Interview: Jonny Fairplay
April 23, 2008 4:11 PM

[]

As an online editor at Rolling Stone, I get a lot of pitches. Most of them are for up and coming bands, while sometimes a random celebrity will be presented to me. Every once in a while I'll get a pitch for somebody that I love but know I can't use for any sort of content on the site. Luckily, the invention of this blog has thrown the doors open for all sorts of people who otherwise would be excluded from the Rolling Stone universe. That's why I got super-excited when somebody called me and asked if I wanted to talk to Jonny Fairplay. Normally I would have to say, "I'm not sure we could do anything with him," but this time I got to say, "Fuck yes." Fairplay, who will be appearing with Billy Corgan-approved wrestling promotion Ring of Honor in New York on May 10, talked about wrestling, Survivor, his fight with Danny Bonaduce and his incredibly strange brand of fame.

Were you surprised that you were brought back to Survivor? Jeff Probst hates your guts, doesn’t he?

I heard the stories about Jeff being like, "I didn't want him." And I’m like, "You didn't want me the first time dude, and look what happened then!" If you look back at the ratings, Survivor Amazon, which was the season before my first season, had dropped to number five in the ratings so they really were looking for a boost with Survivor Pearl Island, and we were number two every single week. CSI was number one and we were number two every week until they got rid of Rupert. The week they got rid of Rupert all of America was like, "Screw Survivor, screw CBS, especially screw Jonny Fairplay, I'm never watching this show again." The next week it was the number one show in America, and every week afterwards it was the number one show in America. People hated me so much that they wanted to be there watching the television set when I went home.

Is everything okay with your fiancé and your kid? Your exist seemed sort of abrupt.

Honestly, the week before filming Survivor was the whole Danny Bonaduce incident. CBS called me and were like, "Are you sure you can to do this?" And I was like, "I've waited four and a half years, I'm not not going to go." I had four root canals, and my entire top jawbone was completely shattered. I was on Vicodin, eating soup and drinking shakes as food. We go to start the game and they said no more Vicodin, even though I had three doctors' notes. I couldn't eat. That was game over. Once again, I went into Jonny Fairplay mode and did another wrestling angle. Let's see if America bites again, and they did.

Let's talk about wrestling. You were involved in wrestling before you got involved in Survivor?

In '98 I started doing indie wrestling on the east coast in North Carolina. I worked with a group called New Dimension Wrestling. I was originally trained by Manny Fernandez, "The Raging Bull." I was a bad guy manager. That's where I started the whole Jonny Fairplay thing. I'd come out there and I'd do the whole speech about how I don't believe in cheating, and it's all fair play for me, no shenanigans. So then at the end of the match I would cheat so the bad guys would win. At the end after the match they'd all be like, "I thought you were about fair play," and I'd say, "It's a misnomer, I lied." The heat it would get was ridiculous. I moved to D.C., then to Portland, and that's where we got into some really innovative edgy stuff. We had Coach Mike Jones, “The child molesting coach with the most,” and the fans would throw Underoos at him when he came to the ring. Eventually I moved to Los Angeles and I became Rowdy Roddy Piper's personal assistant. A year and a half later I'm on Survivor and I went out there and looked at Survivor in the view of a pro wrestler. My biggest goal on my first Survivor wasn't to win, but to create the character of Jonny Fairplay, keep that character on television for as long as possible and make that character the biggest bad guy in the history of television. I think I did pretty good on most of those accounts.

What is involved in being Roddy Piper's personal assistant?

He was doing a lot of really strange DVD movies, so basically my day consisted of meeting with producers, writers, and directors. Picking up scripts, reading through scripts, seeing if there's anything's there. Seeing if there's actually money on the other side. Stuff like that. It was a fun gig.

Then you started working for TNA Wrestling?

When I signed, they had me working closely with Jimmy Hart. Jimmy sees me as the next Andy Kaufman and in conversations with Bob Zmuda, Bob agreed. So we had a story line planned for TNA in which Bob was going to let us use the Intergender Championship and I was going to challenge women and it just never came to fruition.

Why not?

That's one of the greatest mysterious in wrestling. I thought it was a no brainer, especially with the support of Zmuda.

You're coming back to wrestling soon?

I'm going to be at the Ring of Honor show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. I'm going to visit my good friends Larry Sweeny and Chris Hero. New York is my second favorite city, so we'll go out the night before, do the town big, maybe talk about some of our exploits in the ring. And the champion, Nigel McGuinness, gave me a concussion the last time I was there, but I've been guaranteed that won't happen again. I think we'll be on the same page this time.

Are you clear to wrestle post-Bonaduce?

My jaw is still not healed, so it sucks. It's in the court system now, so hopefully everything works out there. It's just a shitty situation. I wish it never happened. I'm sure everyone involved wishes it never happened, from from Fox Reality, to CBS to my fiancé [Michelle from America’s Next Top Model], and especially me.

You've mentioned the Vicodin more than once. Are you clean right now?

I've been clean for about a year and a half now, ever since I moved out of Los Angeles.

Your brand of fame is pretty unusual. Are you okay with being known as a guy who is just on reality shows a lot?

Well, I always knew I was going to be famous. I didn't know how. Growing up as a little kid and then on to high school and stuff, everyone said, "You're going to be famous," and I'd be like, "Okay, how?" The happenstance of being picked for Survivor the casting director just saw me at gas station and asked me was insane. Once I was given that opportunity, now nothing is going to stop me. I was the biggest bad guy in the history of reality television. I am constantly working to keep my name out there, but at the same time my phone never stops ringing. If you're a casting director and you need a good-looking, intelligent, crazy guy, Jonny Fairplay is your kind of guy. With guys like Puck, I think there's a lovable quality to him and he's kind of crazy and all that. However, a producer's nightmare. I'm extremely professional. I show up and I'm like, "How crazy do you want it, full throttle or PG-13?" I'm not scared of anything. With Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge, the first episode Ty says, "Who you guys think is gonna be first one to quit?" and everyone pointed to me and I ended up winning. I beat Vanilla Ice, Steven Baldwin and Nitro from American Gladiators. That's insane! I think the character of Jonny Fairplay is so multi-layered. He is intelligent, he is evil, he is kind of lovable and there's a heart there. Most reality stars don't bring all those dimensions to the table.

When you file your taxes, what do you write in as your occupation?

"Reality TV icon." I've been told by the IRS that as long as you pay them you can write anything you want.

HULK HOGAN's estranged wife LINDA BOLLEA has asked a Florida court for access to her husband's financial records as part of their ongoing divorce battle - insisting he has not provided accurate accounts of his earnings.

Linda Bollea filed for divorce from her wrestling star husband - real name Terry Bollea - in November last year (07) after the breakdown of their 23-year marriage.

The former couple is currently fighting it out over the division of assets, with Hogan contesting Bollea's demand for a share of the family's multi-million dollar Florida properties, in addition to alimony and child support.

Bollea asked the court in Pinellas County, Florida last year (07) to order Hogan to give her lawyers access to all his financial records.
But papers filed on 3 April (08) accuse the former wrestler of not fully disclosing all of the details of his salaries from his various TV appearances and endorsement deals.

Hogan and Bollea have two children together - daughter Brooke, 19, and Nick, for whom Bollea is claiming primary custody and child support.

Captain Lou Albano
Stats: 5'10" 350 lbs.-

  Captain Lou Albano
By Steve Slagle

For the nearly forty years that Capt. Lou Albano was involved in professional
wrestling, be it as a wrestler or manager, he created controversy, excitement,
and in many cases, genuine hatred from the audiences he performed for. For a
man who, by his own admission, was not a tremendous wrestler Albano certainly
made a huge impact in the "sport" and was, for many years, one of the most
well-known cross over celebrities that wrestling had to offer. His vaudevillian
style approach to cutting interviews, combined with his over-the-top personality
and ring persona made Albano one of the most hated managers of all time. Later
in his career, Albano transformed that intense hatred into babyface popularity,
and became one of the most beloved figures in wrestling. In either case, the
rowdy Captain made the fans care about him, which, in the wrestling business, is
all that really matters.

Lou Albano first rose to national prominence in the late-fifties as part of a
tag team known as The Scicilians. Along with partner Tony Altimore, Albano
created a fair amount of controversy doing the stereotypical Italian gangster
gimmick -- so much so that, according to Albano, he and Altimore were once
approached in Chicago by some legitimate "wise guys" and were told -- in no
uncertain terms -- to tone their act down. The Scicilians, despite their
somewhat limited ring ability, were able to win a few titles while raising their
stock in the world of tag team wrestling. On June 30, 1961 The Scicilians won
the prestigous Midwest Tag Team title in Chicago, which helped them immensely in
building their reputation in the eyes of the fans. Their other major
championship, the United States Tag Team title, was captured in Atlantic City,
NJ. on July 10, 1967and eventually lost to Bruno Sammartino & Spiros Arion.

However, despite the modest success of The Scicilians, Albano did not truly
break out as a star until he ended his partnership with Altimore, and forged a
completely new identity as a manager. With WWWF Heavyweight champion Bruno
Sammartino the target of his efforts, Albano managed a revolving door of the
meanest, toughest, biggest athletes he could find in order to take the gold
strap from the hugely popular WWWF champ. Men like Crusher Verdu, Fred Blassie,
Prof. Toru Tanaka, Ivan Koloff and many others were led to battle against
Sammartino by Capt. Lou. In fact, it was one of Albano's men -- the powerful
"Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff -- who finally did the impossible and ended
Sammartino's 7 year-long first WWWF title reign. Later, Albano would also wage
the same type of never-ending war with WWF kingpin Bob Backlund. Other than
Koloff, Lou was never able to guide another man to the World title. However, he
did manage many other men to championships, including Inter-Continental
titleholders Don Muraco, Pat Patterson and Greg Valentine among others.
However, it was in the tag team ranks that Albano was most successful, guiding
nearly 15 different teams to WWF gold -- including the likes of the Wild
Samoans, The Valiant Brothers, Saito & Fuji, The British Bulldogs, and many
other legendary tandems. And what would the "Rock `n Wrestling Connection" --
the angle that essentially launched the WWF to national prominence -- have been
like had Lou Albano not been involved? Or for that matter, WrestleMania 1,
which largely revolved around the boisterous manager? For some reason, I can't
help thinking that Cyndi Lauper and The Grand Wizard just wouldn't have been as
effective. Perhaps that most important (and, at the time, innovative) angle
needed the P.T. Barnum-esque wit and personality that Albano -- who once summed
up his talents by saying, "I'm a good bullsh**er" -- was able to deliver.

The Captain parlayed his MTV rock `n wrestling success into other Hollywood
ventures, including several movies, commercials and a hit television show (Mario
Brothers). In fact, throughout most of the eighties, Albano was a wrestling
celebrity on the scale of Hulk Hogan and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Capt. Lou's
newfound main-stream fame and babyface status was entertaining (if not a little
bizarre) for the older WWF fans who remembered him as the most controversial,
devious and hated manager in the history of the promotion. Nevertheless, Albano
continued to be one of the most recognized celebrities of the 1980's, and helped
attract a whole new audience for pro wrestling..

All the while, of course, he maintained contact with his large wrestling fanbase
by occasionally making special guest appearances on various WWF programs as the
1990's rolled in. As far as his personal life went, Albano eventually gave up
many of the "poisons" that he felt were combining to shorten his life. His
switch to vegetarianism helped the perpetually obese Albano drop over 150 lbs.
And although he lost his flabby girth (which was a big part of his wrestling
persona for many years) his quick wit was as loud and brash as always. Even
though his "Mario Brothers" job eventually ended, Capt. Lou remained a fairly
well-known (within the mainstream) and active media celebrity, especially by pro
wrestling standards. In 1996, the World Wrestling Federation inducted Albano
into its Hall of Fame. Naturally, no shrine to our "sport" would be complete
without "The Captain", so it is with great honor that The Ring Chronicle inducts
wrestling's Manager of Champions, the entertaining and bombastic Capt. Lou
Albano into the TRC Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame...

Interview with...
Captain Lou Albano

Editor: What inspired you to take an interest in Afa and his brother Sika?
Captain Lou: Well, when I saw Afa.. ok... First of all, Andre the Giant told me
about him, and he said he had two men that would be very compatible and would
work with me; and they were great, great wrestlers. And when I saw Afa, some 18
or 20 years ago, I realized this was truly a talent. And I realized this was..
Andre the Giant told me about Afa, and he said, "I've got the team Afa and Sika.
"They're huge men", he said. "They're combined weight of close to about 600lbs.
And they have wrestling ability, wrestling agility, and I believe they'll be
ideal with you." I always handled tag-teams, and I said -- "Well, this could
perhaps be the greatest tag-team ever", and they were. They turned out to be
three time World Wrestling Federation Champions, and they were my greatest
tag-team of all time. And what inspired me was the gazed look in Afa's eyes and
his brother Sika. There's a saying in Samoa, "We fight with one hand and eat
with the other"; and Samoan people, without a doubt, are truly - I would say,
the toughest people in the world. So I realized that when I handled this team, I
would go on to glory by handling 3 time World champions; and I was glad to be
part of the organization.

Editor: What qualities do you most admire about Afa?

Captain Lou: About Afa? I admired his honesty, I admired his right to the point,
I admired his wrestling ability, size, poise, and as I said, he is the Matai -
which is the Samoan Chief. And being the Matai (slight pause, turns to Afa) -- I
don't think she knew that you were the Matai of the Samoan people. He is the
Matai which is the Samoan Chief - and what I admired about him was... As I said,
his wrestling ability and all, that's beyond reproach. But when I looked in his
eyes, I could see a real man. A man that called it like it is, and he went right
up front and told you what it was; and I admired that and respected that. That's
what I admired. Go right ahead....

Editor: What do you feel was your most successful moment as a manager?

Captain Lou: As a manager, I feel that when Afa and Sika won their belts for the
first time, and they were 3 time world champions. And it was a great honor for
me because I realized that in these men, I'd have a long going thing - a 20 yr.
relationship with them. I realized that this would be the greatest tag-team in
wrestling history, and they truly are - The Wild Samoans. (Turns to look at Afa:
"Afa would you pay attention, I'm talking! Don't be shaking hands with everybody
else.")

Editor: Do you feel your hard work and dedication in this field was well worth
it, or are there some regrets that you may have?

Captain Lou: Definitely well worth it. As I said, I've had 17 tag-team
champions, 2 Intercontinental, and one World Champion. On top of that, besides
the Wild Samoans, the British Bulldogs, the Head Shrinkers, and so forth -- I've
had Koloff, that defeated Bruno Sammartino. I have managed Andre the Giant,
George the Animal Steel, the British Bulldogs, well.. we had 'em all. Also, Ken
Patera, The Explorer, (George Steel, "The Animal Steel"), Freddie Blassie,
Killer Kowalski, John Studd as the "Executioner", so we had them all. I feel
wrestling has been very good to me. I have raised four children, wonderful
children. I've got eleven grandchildren, and one on the way -- two in the
professional wrestling. And my association with Afa - the Wild Samoan -- has
been nothing but pleasure and a great honor for me.

Editor: How do you feel to be referred to as the most legendary manager of all
time?

Captain Lou: I feel it is a great honor, because I feel there were so many great
managers in wrestling history. And as I said, I feel what brought me to that
level was being the manager of Afa and Sika. It's because managing all these
other teams, they were great, but also.. (turns to Afa who's engaged in
conversation -- "Would you please hold off and be quiet while I'm talking! --
Uh.. that guys not dealing with a full deck. I do say, he's got the brain of a
dehydrated bee-bee, put it in a pigeon, it would fly backwards!" Lou then turns
back to us) But forget that.. But, you know what I admire about Afa the most? I
admire his forwardness, his honesty, his decency, his integrity, forget his
wrestling ability -- that's the best of all time! But being associated with him,
I realize in my mind, I'm an opportunist. And if I handled the Samoans, I'd go
down as a legend. I could handle the British Bulldogs, the Head Shrinkers, the
Executioners (Kowalksi and Studd), the Valiant Brothers, but none would compare
with the one and only Afa Anoia, the Wild Samoan. And I realized by handling
them and taking them, and they went on to become three time world champions;
this would put me in the Hall of Fame and would put me down as a legend in my
own mind. Ok, go ahead. Ask any questions, I'll tell you no lies, a man got hit
with a bottle of beer right between the eyes! Go right ahead.

Editor: If there was one person that most influenced you during your career, who
was he/she and why?

Captain Lou: Whoever influenced my career, years ago -- Argentina Rocca, the
Legendary Argentina Rocca. Gorgeous George, by the name of George Wagner. a
fella called Soldier Barry. And that was instrumental in me getting into the
wrestling business in 1952.

Editor: What was the most difficult decision you ever had to make as a manager?

Captain Lou: Well, where I messed up, - a difficult decision, was the time Afa
wrestled Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas, and I accidentally hit Afa with a chair.
Now, he complained and he moaned for a period of ten years, claiming that I
caused him.. (turns to Afa and the men Afa is speaking to -- "Will you shut up,
we're talking here - Please. By the way, is that shirt water-proof, 'cause the
tie's a pisser!" -- turns back to us) In the meantime, he turned around and he
said I busted him open. (Pause to talk to Afa and his lawyer friends)

Editor: What strategies did you tell Afa to utilize while he was in the ring?

Captain Lou: I told Afa, "You do possess the size, you do possess the strength,
you and Sika." So I told them with their quickness -- see, a lot of big men,
they're not mobile. They don't have the speed and agility. But, the Samoans, I
believe it's a family heritage. I believe it's going back to the island of Samoa
-- who is an American ally, remember, American Samoa.. these people are.. they
don't need green cards or anything like that because, it's like Puerto Rico,
they are American Samoans.

Editor: What advice would you give to people who are interested in becoming a
wrestler?

Captain Lou: Wrestling? First of all, if there was a fella in school, I would
say finish school. If you can go on to college, you may get a scholarship from
High School to College. That's a background, in case wrestling doesn't work out,
you have something to fall back on. Be careful of drugs, stay clean -- be a man
or a lady straight-up and say "NO!". Have a little faith in God. I'm a
Christian, I believe in Lord Jesus Christ, it's there.. If you're Jewish, if
you're Catholic, if you're Protestant; believe in the Lord Jesus, have a little
faith. Go to school, get an education, you can do it all. Then if you want to
get into professional wrestling, go to the Wild Samoan Training Center -- in
Allentown PA. You'll have Afa train you - the finest trainer in the business.
Bam Bam Bigelow can vouch for that, people that have been here can vouch for
that, Big Yoko can vow to that, Samu can vow to that. Fatu -- they can all vow
to that. You can ask -- here's Bam Bam Bigelow, the man that in one year made
well over three million dollars for the WWF. Ok, I can tell you this for a fact.
When he wrestled Lawrence Taylor and so forth. Where did he train? Who trained
him? Right here. Afa Anoia, Wild Samoan. So Bam Bam can tell you. I mean..
anybody that's been here. Jimmy Snuka -- "Superfly, he's not dealing with a full
deck, but still, he can tell you! Now go right ahead.

Editor: We're through, thank you very much.

Captain Lou: Oh you're very welcome. -- Put the recorder on. (Turns to Afa and
Lynn) I don't want to save it for tonight, I want to tell them right now! Wait a
minute -- one last thing. I want this on the recorder. OK. When you talk about
Afa, I'm gonna stress once again. I met Afa some 19 years ago and it was through
Andre the Giant, that told me about Afa - it's almost 20 years, right. And I
want to say, it's an honor, and a pleasure, and it's been something in my career
that brought me up to that Hall of Fame deal. One more time, I attribute that to
the Wild Samoans, the greatest tag-team of all time - Afa and Sika. God Bless
'em. We love you. Lord Jesus be with you.

Editor: Thank you very much.

"Captain" Lou Albano (born July 29, 1933 in Carmel, New York) was a professional
wrestler and one-time voice of the video game character Mario.

Lou Albano playing the live-action role of Mario on The SMB Super Show. For most
of his career, he was a notorious heel both as a wrestler and as a manager,
working for the WWWF/WWF (now the WWE). During the late 1960s he was one of
WWWF's most reliable heel wrestlers. Then during the 1970s he was part of the
WWF's Evil Trinity of managers with "Classy" Freddie Blassie and The Grand
Wizard of Wrestling. For a time Albano continued to don the tights even though
he was a manager, sometimes causing a member of one of his tag teams to sit out
for the night, a practice that sometimes caused resentment.

Albano wore Hawaiian print shirts and rubber bands in his beard, and frequently
interfered in his charges' matches physically. In 1982, he and Ray "The
Crippler" Stevens turned on Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, causing Snuka to become a
fan favorite. Stevens piledrove Snuka on the cement floor (kayfabe) back before
there were mats on the arena floor outside the ring.

Lou also managed the Wild Samoans when they were WWF Tag Team Champions. He had
a memorable feud with rock star Cyndi Lauper in the mid-1980s during the "Rock n
Wrestling" era around the time of WrestleMania I. Lou was later seen playing the
father character in Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" video.

For a brief time, Albano managed the acclaimed rock band NRBQ, and was
celebrated in their song "Captain Lou" on the 1986 Lou and the Q album. He
performed vocals on the album, and made a memorable "Crazy Eddie" style
television commercial for it.

In a departure from his primarily villainous roles in the WWF, Albano played
Mario in the live action segments of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show from 1989
to 1991, and voiced the character in the animated segments (in subsequent
series, the character's voice was provided by Walker Boone). He also played the
part of a "fixer" in the Brian De Palma movie Wise Guys. Albano also appeared in
an episode of the television series 227 during its first season.
