I missed this year, but in the past, I think assigned seating worked well. There was some confort knowning in advance where I was sitting and also a chance to get to know my table-mates.
I think the issues of open seating would be:
Â
-fans rushing into the area, but then standing around waiting for the wrestlers to take a seat, then a mad rush to grab the chairs next to their favorite.
-Wrestlers and their family friends would have to chase people away from their table if they needed all the chairs.
-people will almost always try to squeeze in one more chair at an already full table, etc.
Â
Maybe I'm just overly worried about the impact to the Talent that us 'non-talent' might cause.

I'm for open seating at the banquet also.
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.
Well, on Canada night there was open seating. so it would probably work
okay to have open seating on awards night as
well.

Here's a question for everybody that we would appreciate hearing
thoughts on:
At the Reunion Banquet, do you have a preference for assigned seating
or open seating? Please let us know your preference and why!
Thanks -

By the way, is the reunion Vegas next year or Nashville?

Subject: [CACF] Thoughts on the 2007 Reunion
Well, I'm home, just a little worse for wear, from Las Vegas and what
a great time.
It was great to see Morgan, Jeff, Alfred, Mitch and Dave all there.
There were a lot of the greats there that I hadn't met before - Bret
Hart, Pat Patterson, "Dr. Life" Steve Williams, Puppy Dog Peloquin,
Omar Atlas and many others. It was a great weekend and, as always, I
can't wait for next year!
Also, many thanks to the CAC Board of Directors for the confidence
they displayed in my ability to contribute by electing me to the
Board. It is truly an honor and I look forward to contributing in any
way I can!

Can't make it this year again. I'm doing this crazy thing running for
a seat on the Dallas City Council. But I will have everyone know that
the headshot I am using on my campaign lit is a picture at my first
and only CAC banquet a couple years ago. Unfortunately we had to crop
out Miss Linda and Adrian Street as not to scare the potential voters,
but I am very proud of it nonetheless!

Hey.... Hey.... Hey, keep this quite! We don't want to be flooded with
tv crews, magazine photographers and the such. Wolfman will be signing
autographs afterwords. I respectfully ask that just because Im a
Referee DONT start no food fight! But all is welcome to join us in
this championship food eat'n extravaganza! If a Jabroni from LA is
going to be there Im sure it will very interesting!

and "The Wolfman" will be having dinner with some jabroni from Los

who wants to join them is welcome to.

The widow of The Sheik has joined the CAC and will be attending the
reunion this April 20-21. In addition, the widow and daughter of the
late Larry Chene will also be there. I know some of you on this site
are not old enough to remember Larry Chene, but trust me...what a great
talent he was.
Hey Sharkey,Uncle Karl and my tagteam partner on the CAC
website...Wes!
Uncle Karl is bragging about his nephew doing such a good job on the
CAC website and I thank him for that. But I got to give credit to my
tagteam partner...Wes! Wes helps out alot and I never give him
enough credit for what he does...So heres to you brotha for helping
me out so much.
Jeff "THE SHARK FIGHTER", we are getting in around 3pm on the
17th,Wolfman is getting in around 4pm. Mark & Marla Bastein will be
there around 10am... They got some mighty good food next door at the
pepper mill if you would like to join us tuesday night....
Uncle Karl is driving to Vegas this year. He is going to take the
back roads with his child bride. If things are like they was for
Karl in California a few months ago...Look for a big SUV,4WD HUMMER
to be crusing the strip....Be sure and wave at Uncle Karl!
But if you want a name badge with your name on it...Get your
Reservations in ASAP! Uncle Karl I think, is leaving on the
14th/15th. Any banquet reservations made after that will not be
known and you will have to pay again when you get to Vegas!
Wes the master mind that he is has, came up with some real...slobber
knockers for the "12 days of CAC"! This is gonna be a hoot! This
will be ten things you do not want to forget! Look for it in a week
or so to apear on the CAC website...along with other interesting
bits of insider information that I cant reveal right now.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion this year.
Take care see you all soon,
Morgan

There is not a lot of posting here lately, as our fearless leader
Morgan, has taken over the CAC web master job, and doing a fantastic
job. The web site is getting over 7800 hits a day. It takes a lot of
time and hard work to keep things up and verify all the info as it is
sent in.
This is the last week to get a room at the Riviera Hotel under the CAC
block of rooms, they only hold the block until 30 days out then we must
release them back to the hotel, so if you have not made them please do
so ASAP.
Also if you have not made your banquet reservations, I need them in the
next 3 weeks or it would be better also ASAP. Things are looking great
for this year with a lot of first time wrestlers coming, The Canada
night on Friday will be well represented.
Hope to see you there.
Be well
Karl Lauer
I havent read the group for a while, but I see this wasnt posted.
RIP Ray.

sternob_08met.ART.West.Edition1.44c8247.html
In 1946, 13-year-old Walter Bookbinder ran away from his Brooklyn
home to join the Merchant Marines.
The seventh-grader grew up to be known as Ray Stern and went on to
become a bodybuilder and fitness-center entrepreneur. He was also
known as Ray "Thunder" Stern, a champion professional wrestler whose
21-year career included about 3,600 matches, including one in which
he is said to have pinned a previously undefeated black bear in 35
seconds. (There is no record of how a match with an alligator went.)
Mr. Stern later became an aerobatic and commercial pilot and owned
an aviation business. He was also a successful Dallas real estate
developer.
Mr. Stern, 74, died Tuesday of an antibiotic-resistant infection at
Medical City Dallas Hospital. He had recently had elective surgery.
After twice running away from his impoverished neighborhood, Mr.
Stern first gained fame as a wrestler and then found his fortune as
a businessman.
"He made it happen," said his wife of 10 years, Debi Stern of
Dallas. "He is the American dream come true."
Mr. Stern began lifting weights in his early teens, Mrs. Stern said.
He joined the Merchant Marines to escape the poverty of his Brooklyn
neighborhood, his wife said.
Mr. Stern took two 50-pound dumbbells with him to sea in a duffel
bag, to the surprise of a fellow shipmate.
"One of the senior sailors kicked the bag to say, 'Hey, get that bag
out of the way,' " Mrs. Stern said.
In 1949, Mr. Stern's interest in bodybuilding took him to Muscle
Beach in California, where he learned from Joe Gold and Armand
Tanny, icons of the sport.
In California, he was persuaded to become a professional wrestler.
He used his mother's maiden name, Stern, and selected a one-syllable
first name Ray, to be his ring name. He later picked up the nickname
Thunder for his loud ring persona and his airborne maneuvers.
"Ray was most well-known for the drop kick," his wife said.
Despite his 19-inch biceps and 50-inch chest, Mr. Stern was more
than brawn.
To prepare for a match against a 550-pound black bear, he observed
the animal in a competition the night before his scheduled match.
"No one had ever beaten the bear," Mrs. Stern said. "When Ray went
into the ring, he screamed 'rarraaah' and the bear reared up on his
hind legs. Ray grabbed it by a back leg and took him down."
He won numerous wrestling championships as an individual and as part
of a tag team.
Wanting fortune to go with his fame, Mr. Stern ventured into
business, beginning with health clubs in California. He expanded
into apartment buildings, including the Wedgwood Tower in Oak Cliff,
an investment that brought him to Dallas in 1966.
At the time, Mr. Stern was married to his first wife, Clare, a
fitness adviser and entrepreneur for women's spas.
Mr. Stern fell in love with Dallas. The couple moved here and opened
a joint effort, Ray and Clare Stern Spa. The couple's clubs were
among the first to feature day-care facilities for parents who
wanted to work out.
At its 1972 opening, the Forest Lane facility was billed as the
largest in the Southwest. It featured a 110-degree mineral water
spa, Roman swimming pool, Turkish sauna, ice plunge, steam room and
ultraviolet sunrooms.
The Sterns quickly made their name in the fitness business. In
December 1975, Elvis Presley and eight friends flew in from Memphis
for a 20-minute tour of racquetball courts at the Sterns' fitness
center.
Mr. Stern seemingly added business ventures like plates on a
barbell.
There was the Claremont – now the Bonaventure – on Keller Springs
Road and the tollway, "not just a place to live ... but a total
living experience."
There were high-rise office towers built with French partners and a
corporate-jet flying service.
Ray and Clare Stern divorced about 20 years ago. Clare Stern died
about 15 months ago.
"Ray always had 10 things going on at the same time," Mrs. Stern
said. "You can't define the different parts of Ray's life, because
they overlap. He had real estate, wrestling, health clubs and
aviation. He was a very complex person."
In 2005, Mr. Stern received the New York State Award at the
Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in Amsterdam, N.Y.
"Ray wanted it all, and he got it all," his wife said.
Mr. Stern's services will be private. He is believed to have a
sister, Mrs. Stern said.
Memorials may be made to the International Exotic Feline Sanctuary,
P.O. Box 637, Boyd, Texas 76023.
Hey folks, looks like the group's been kinda silent of late. I get to
be the first post here in 2007!
Once again, I decided to take up booking. I took the easy route and
avoided booking angles, booking talent, booking TV or booking a
building. Instead I decided to book just myself for the banquet (the
check's in the mail Karl!) on the heels of booking my annual
membership, the plane trip and the hotel. I'll be in town later on
Tuesday the 17th and attending the NAB Convention
(broadcasting/engineering event at the Hilton, Convention Center and
other buildings near the Riv.) for most of Wednesday the 18th. I'll
look forward to seeing some familiar faces later that evening and into
the reunion.
Want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2007.
Don't think I am going to be able to get out to Vegas this spring. I
just spent an anniversary there this past October. But I hope everyone
has a great time at the CAC reunion.
-John
here it is Christmas day late afternoon and we have just returned
home to our side of the ranch. Spent the morning watching the 4 grand-
kids open present and exchanging gifts and just enjoying family and
friends.
When you think about it after the presents and all the temporary
excitement what you remember most of all is the conversation and new
memories just made. like my 7 year old grand daughter who said
Grandpa, can I paint your toe nails, you are reading a writing from a
68 year old with candy apple toe nails, with most of the toe also in
full color, do i feel silly, not a bit, do I have a memory , you bet.
We have once again lost some dear friends and members, One of the
nicest and most giving men i have ever known Tiger Conway SR has left
us and just yesterday the wonderful lady and wife of Big Sky Bill
Bowman lost her battle with the big C, Ann Bowman who worked
tirelessly for the gulf coast reunions and the CAC events in Vegas.
The fantastic Don Jardine AKA The Spoiler, had just bought his
tickets for Vegas only 7 days before his untimely death. El Shareff
another headliner has taken the 10 count, all in the last few days.
There are others but these 4 in just the last days, those that were
at the CAC last June have memories of 3 of these 4 who were there.
Probably the main reason not to miss attending our reunions, no one
has a guarantee about tomorrow, so we need to make the best out of
today.
I started out saying 358 memories, that is the number of days gone in
2006 and each and every day should provide a new memory, some good
and some not so good but still a memory.
Things are shaping up real good for Vegas and its only 4 months away,
so if you have not made your reservation please do so ASAP, remember
your seat is based on the day i receive your reservation.
Canada will be well represented this year for the Friday night event
and we will have a lot of first time wrestlers coming in for this.
Be well and have a healthy and happy new year.

Hi friends! Just wanted to drop a quick note that I went back to my
old stomping grounds of Packerland Pro Wrestling this past Saturday
night as they had a show in Menasha, WI. I haven't worked with my old
boss/trainer Chris Bassett since 1999, but we have a good rapport where
he welcomes me to the events he still runs from time to time.
I brought several info packets with some details of the CAC reunion for
2007, as well as membership and banquet ticket order blanks. The show
was booked with some notable names: Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner,
Terry Taylor and Larry Zbyszko were on the card, and some others like
Tough Tom of the Disorderly Conduct tag team and many up-and-coming
talents.
Zbyszko's sporting a new hairstyle which he's quite proud of. He
mentioned he was invited to attend CAC a few years ago by the great Lou
Thesz, but his schedule didn't allow for it. He plans to look ahead on
the calendar to see if he can make it in '07. He's enjoying the
golfing and warm weather of Orlando, Florida these days and bristled at
the 40 degree Wisconsin temperatures.
Terry Taylor has had his neck fused and is looking down the road to hip
and knee replacements, but looks much younger than his 51 years would
indicate. He had a lot of constructive criticism for the younger
wrestlers and encouraged them to think about the insane bumps that
they're taking now.
Tough Tom is going solo mostly these days as his partner Mean Mike is
in Florida these days, but he's truly an all-purpose guy that can help
improve any show or organization.
Each of the wrestlers I spoke to were very much aware of the CAC as an
entity; hopefully by seeing some of the activities and contemporaries
they would see at a reunion will encourage them to join and attend at
some point.

It was an honor beginning my CAC 06 experience with his training
seminar activity.
CAC life member,Tiger Conway Sr. passed away at St Josephs hospital in
Houston TX. last night around 7pm from complications of a stroke and
brain aneurysm suffered a few days ago. Tiger was a dedicated CAC
member and was always there for the workers, fans & friends.
Tiger was one of the very first people I met at the annual CAC
reunion. He was always such a extremely out going person. I will
personally miss Tiger.
I personally send condolences to the family and many friends and
workers of Tiger Conway Sr.

Once again I must apologize for being so late with some updates, but
will "try" to do better in the next few months before we all go to
Vegas.
Some rumors that we need to correct;
The CAC Board is considering taking the annual reunion on the road
for a few years, For 2008 the 2 top cities are Nashville TN and St
Louis MO, both were great wrestling towns and we are waiting for the
hotels in the towns to submit the best deals they can. You would be
amazed that how hard it is to find cities with hotels that feed 500
plus for a sit down banquet at a affordable price. Vegas as big as
it is only had the 2 hotels with banquets under $100.00 per person,
the others went way more then our average member could afford.
Other cities we are working with include Los Angeles, Minneapolis,
Chicago, Boston, New York, Charlotte and Tampa areas.
The CAC BOARD of Directors DID NOT CANCELL THE WRESTLING SEMINAR,
the Riviera simple said no more matches at our hotel without all the
permits and liability insurance, The Plaza said the same thing for
the future. Our legal department had also warned us of the huge
liability risk we had taken, once the insurance issue came into play
we had no choice. The premium alone would far exceed the income from
the banquet, and 50% plus from that keeps the club going all year.
Bare in mind we have had the first 38 years with no wrestling, and
any one who came only for the free wrestling seminar and show was
there for the wrong reason to start. The CAC is not a political or
wrestling club, but a club of wrestling, boxing, movie and stunt
people who just want to remember the good days and cultivate old
friendships, it is not profit motivated or looking to build bank
accounts or open halls of fame, we support those that do but have no
intention of going into business. As Lou Thesz said "we are a
benevolent group with no granular dreams of stardom, most of our
members have been there and done that. Now its time to enjoy the
friends we have made."
Enough preaching, just returned from my 50th class reunion, still
165 strong out of approx. 900, and I was the youngest looking one
there, except maybe for 155. had a great time and was nice to see
old friends and get some great Mexican food once again. If you ever
go to Los Angeles be sure to hit Olivera street in old LA, best food
on the planet if you like real Mexican food.
We also had a nice tribute turn out for Maria Barnardi, a great
story by Wes Daniels on our site and some good pictures also, Most
of the boys who worked for me in my California promotion showed up,
Jack Armstrong, Tony Rocca, and Scott Schwartz.
Pepper Martin gave us a preview of some of the stories and jokes he
has planned when he MC's the reunion next April, Pepper has done
everything in wrestling as well as the movies, put his name in a
search engine to see all he has done. Plus the only man to beat up
Superman in the movies.
The great Yukon Eric being honored posthumously will have his son,
and 7 other family members there to accept. Things are looking real
good for April, so do this old guy a favor and order or tickets
early, I hope you are checking the CAC web site regular, as Morgan
has done a fantastic job with it, there is more information and news
and photos then ever, I get compliments every day on the RIP updates
and it makes us all feel good to know they enjoy the site. Morgan
has obtained the help of several, and guys like Greg Oliver and Bill
Kociaba are making a difference, hopefully Al friend will also get
back with his column.
Be well and see you in April
