I ask one of the board members in Vegas this year,Why Vegas? Don't
get me wrong. I love it. But I was curious to what brought the CAC
to Vegas. We discussed a number of things and it had came to a
general consensus that the reason the CAC Reunion had moved to Vegas
was for the younger generation. In order to make the CAC grow they
had to find a place that would allow "us" younger generation to want
to get involved. They felt the younger generation need things to do
in there spare time. Vegas offers a little bit of everything for
everybody. My wife works 2nd shift so we are night owls anyway. It
was nothing to see us at 5 in the morning gambling(she was
gambling,I was donating money to the Nevada power company..lol). So
the night life in Vegas has some to do with why the CAC has the
reunion there. What other towns would offer the same thing as Vegas?
I dont know of any. So I feel it is safe to say that the Reunion
will be back in Vegas next year. I enjoyed the week we was there.
But at the same time I was glad to get my feet back on N.C. soil. I
am also looking forward to see the names of the honorees for 2005.
Percival A. Friend and I keep in touch often. While we was in
Vegas,he told me to "be sure and be at Jimmy Valiants in Sept. I
have something for you". Well,he wouldnt tell me what it was and
that drove me crazy! So about 3 hours later. Here comes Percival
through the casino looking for me. He told me he would not make me
wait until Sept. He reached in his fanny pack and pulled out a Bolo
with a 1884 Morgan Dollar incased in a silver medallion. And
said,"This belongs to you!" To most people that wouldnt mean much.
But Percival is a well respected honoree in the CAC. And I hold high
respects for him. I told Al and have sinse told him again. That is
the nicest item that anyone in this business has giving me. Al
proceeded on to his room(about midnight). The next morning Im sitting
there watching my wife make "US" money gambling and all the sudden
someone grabs me from behind in a headlock. It was Percival! He was
going to eat breakfest. So we joined him and it was around 9 or 10
o'clock before we crashed in the motel room for some much needed
rest.
Now to several of you this may be as boring as watching bees make
honey. But what I have just told you is what the "RING OF
FRIENDSHIP" is all about. Percival has only known me for a couple of
years. And for him to treat me so much like family is unreal. So I
say to Percival,Congratulations on your Honoree this year.It is well
deserving.
Now whats your story of the "RING of Friendship"?
