>FA Premier Academy League (Under-19s):
Charlton's U19 side conceded a late goal at Leicester City for the
third consecutive season on Saturday morning.
Two years ago the young Addicks looked to be heading for victory
after goals from Chris Cerroni and Paul Robson had Mark Robson's team
2-1 ahead, and the season before Karl Beckford's equalising penalty
was made redundant by another late rally from the young Foxes.
On Saturday, it was a Sebastian Ndombe strike that saw Charlton get
their noses in front, but once again Leicester battled right up until
the final whistle when Dominic Pearmain snatched a point for the home
side.
It was Charlton, chasing their fourth consecutive victory, who
started the brighter. Rangy Australian midfielder Fred Wilson
whistled a 20-yarder past the post and Alex Varney also looked
dangerous early on, before the lead arrived on the half-hour.
Ndombe was quick to capitalise on a mistake from Leicester's centre-
half and his finish – a beautifully controlled chip over the head of
the stranded keeper – was of the highest order.
Midfield enforcer Barry Fuller could have doubled his team's
advantage following Bob Thanda's cross as half-time approached, and
it was the visitors who continued to look the more likely side after
the break.
With Charlton rediscovering the kind of form that has seen them win
their last three games, it was only a slightly disappointing final
ball and average finishing that was letting Robson's boys down.
Varney saw an effort well saved ten minutes into the restart and
then Stacy Long – back from his Russian expedition with England U19s –
elected to shoot at goal when a square pass to the unmarked Ndombe
may have been the wiser option.
With 20 minutes to go Karl Beckford shot early when the option was
there to close in on goal, and it proved to be a costly decision as,
in the dying seconds, Permain rose highest at the far post to nod a
powerful header past Robert Elliot.
Charlton: Elliot, Ashton, Thanda, Ricketts, Jackson, Fuller, Wilson,
Long, Beckford, Varney, Ndombe.
Subs (not used): Ward, Shodeinde.
