>>>Post-Match Premiership Reaction After The 3-2 Scoreline Between
Charlton Athletic & Liverpool At The Valley :
>Alan Curbishley (Charlton Athletic Manager):
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was delighted to have secured the first
home win of the season with a pulsating 3-2 win over Liverpool.
He also revealed he was untroubled by the fact his team had failed
to win at home this term before coming good at the fourth time of
asking.
He said:
"I thought it was a good game, end to end and with quite a few
chances - and I'm delighted we came out on top.
I'd not got carried away with it - it's a long, long season.
Confidence is a wonderful thing. We should have got something at
Aston Villa last week but didn't - and hopefully we'll get something
at Portsmouth next week and be mid-table when the international break
comes in.
On hat-trick hero Kevin Lisbie, he said:
"I've got a lot of time for him but he hasn't got the goals his play
deserves. Fans have scapegoats and if we're not doing well ours have
picked on him."
>Kevin Lisbie (Charlton Athletic Player):
The striker told Sky Sports:
"It's my first hat-trick - and to get it against Liverpool is great
for me.
At the beginning of the season I was getting booed off and it was
difficult for me because I've been at the club since I was 14 - I
suppose the fans only want the best out of me.
But I think that's my best goal and we were pleased to get it because
when Liverpool get ahead it's hard to break them down."
>Gerard Houllier (Liverpool Manager):
Gerard Houllier was left to rue defensive lapses as his side's
promising recent run came to a shuddering halt at The Valley.
Liverpool manager also acknowledged that the 3-2 defeat attaches
more significance to next week's game against Arsenal at Anfield.
He said:
"Arsenal next is a big test because we are some points behind them
now so it will be make or break, and the boys know it - they know
they have to respond to today.
We were in control of the game and made some silly mistakes but we've
got to blame ourselves. We let ourselves down today.
I think we played well in the second half but it's just a shame we
didn't get at least a draw."
The Frenchman would not criticise any individuals, despite a poor
defensive performance.
"We score together and defend together," he said.
"We have a style of play which puts us more forward than on the back
foot - but we do it as a team.
I wouldn't blame one player in particular - we could have defended
better as a team.
We owe the fans a better result, although we were a bit unlucky at
the finish when Harry Kewell hit the post."
