Charlton defender Gary Rowett's knee is described as "almost
arthritic" and he will see a specialist next week that could
determine his future.
The 29-year-old has had a torrid time in South London since his £2.5
million switch from Leicester City two seasons ago, making just 25
appearances in that time.Rowett did play in the opening game of the
season against Manchester City but finds himself again on the
sidelines and struggling.
The stopper has endured two clean-up operations since his initial
knee troubles but has also suffered with back problems from the knee
injury which has blighted his training programme.
Addicks boss Alan Curbishley said:
"It's been a disaster for him.
"And for me because he could have slotted in at right back last week.
"We've kept Rowett off training and we're going to have to throw him
back in at some stage."
Chelsea loan signing Carlton Cole also sees the same specialist
about his hip injury but Curbishley remained cautiously optimistic
about the striker's chances of remaining at the club.
"Unless there's a major problem he won't be going back to Chelsea."
