Robinson: 'This Time It's Serious'   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #176 of 3869 |
John Robinson believes the Charlton players have
learned from their last FA Cup Third Round ordeal and can
see off Second Division Blackpool at The Valley. <br>
Charlton needed a late equaliser from John Salako to spare
their blushes against non-league Dagenham and Redbridge
last season and narrowly won the replay 1-0 at
Victoria Road. <br> But the Welsh winger believes it will
be a different story this time round and is
confident his side can have a good run in the competition.
<br>Robinson said: <br>"We have learned from the Dagenham
experience and want to ensure that Blackpool are not
creating the headlines on the back pages on Sunday
morning. We certainly approached the game last season in
the right manner and never took them lightly.
<br>That just shows what the FA Cup can conjure up and you
never know how these games are going to pan out.
Blackpool are an unknown quantity but I've played against
their manager Steve McMahon and know what he is all
about. I'm sure his team will be fully committed, just
like he was a player. <br>The longer they hold out in
the game, the more chance they have of creating an
upset. It is a big day out for them but we need to get
on top early on and try and score an early goal."
<br> Robinson has never been past the quarter-final
stage of the competition but still dreams of appearing
in the Final at the Millenium Stadium next May. He
added: <br>"I would love nothing more than to win the FA
Cup with Charlton. <br>We are never going to win the
Premiership and it will be a tall order trying to get into
Europe. The next best thing is a major cup competition
and we have another chance to try and win the
competition. <br>I think we are capable of doing it because,
on our day, we can beat any team in the country.
This is the best squad I have played with since I came
to the club and we have got great depth. It is the
dream of every player to lift the FA Cup and I am
certainly no different. <br>It doesn't matter that the
Final is no longer played at Wembley. I just pray the
draw is kind to us this season." <br><br>©soccernet
