Yes, triathlons tend to be more expensive. (For example, the
Olympic-distance Columbia triathlon was $80 and the Great Floridian Ironman
was $350). This is due in part to longer races generally requiring more
race support. Also, it helps cover the cost of liability insurance and
medical support for people who plan to swim "1.1 miles" of a 1.2 mile swim
course (like Daphne, below) or who do an "endo" on their bikes (like
Daphne, below). It is a great workout though. And, fortunately, most
people fully recover (like Daphne).
