I hope you're right. Boston showed a lot of skills before he bulked up and before the injuries. We'll see what he has left in the tank and where his head's at. This all just reminds me of Mike Shannahan's flirtation with another former Buckeye last year in camp -- Maurice Clarett..
And, am I high on Michael Clayton? You bet ya! The only rookie who had a bigger impact than him in 2004 was Rothlisberger. He isn't an amazing athlete, he's just a great football player when he's healthy. On top of that, he's a high character guy who's a natural leader. He was a captain on Nick Saban's national championship team at LSU and, last year, who opened his home to Cadillac Williams and made sure that his transition from Auburn to the NFL went as smooth as possible? Michael Clayton. I'd be proud to wear his jersey. Please send it to:

re: Boston, Even more reason for him to produce I guess. Seems like the picture you've shown here is pretty ugly & pretty much it's his last chance. If he does the steroids under Gruden he'll probably get the boot here too. (BTW Look how well Barry Bonds has done on steroids, he just beat the Babe's HR record. :) ha. & I am definitely not pro steroids. )
I remember when Boston was a top draft pick...still, I am firmly confident about him with the Bucs program.
You seem like a huge Clayton fan.( I should send you one of his jerseys. They always seem to be the only ones left on the rack at the end of the season.) I hope that we see more production from him this season.

That's good. We just have to keep a level head about him. This guy comes in with a luggage rack full of baggage. There were allegations of steroid use when he bounced from Arizona to San Diego and went from around 210 pounds to about 255. That's when the talk about moving him to TE because of the loss of mobility and flexibility began. There were off-the-field rage related issues (which is consistent with heavy steroid usage) before the Chargers gave up on him and he ended up in Miami. There the string of injuries (which is also consistent with heavy steroid usage) claimed the last two seasons which also included a suspension from the NFL for -- yes -- steroid use.
What we're looking at here is the end of the line for David Boston. I see his weight is down to 228 pounds. That's good. If he can keep his nose clean and get back some of his pre-San Diego form he'll be a steal for the Bucs. If he so much as spits on the sidewalk he'll be gone. There's a reason for it when a former top-10 pick and a Pro Bowler ends up on his 4th team trying out for just over the league minimum. But, trust me, if this guy's not backing up Michael Clayton that will be VERY bad news for both Clayton and the Bucs. Michael has established himself as a leader in our locker room and we need him to get back to where he was two years ago.

David Boston went to Ohio State. The kid they cut to make room for him went to Texas.

This is great news! Boston won't be anyone's "back-up."
I understand that he's in great shape & has overcome his injuries. Being a former teammate of Chris Simms in Texas. This is good, it will be an asset for the team. Simms will have a positive comfort level in making him another "go to" man. Chris's comfort level with Galloway has developed into a good connection for big yardage plays. This will also prove as a positive move in this direction for the big gains.... I am all for it!!!!

What we'd heard last year was that Boston had bulked up and morphed into a TE rather than a wideout. Does anyone know if he's come down in weight class and regained his speed and mobility? If so, then he's another guy that Michael Clayton needs to worry about. Between Boston, Stovall and the "contract" Gruden sprung on Clayton to assure that he puts in the effort this off season; it appears that Jon's doing everything he can to make sure that Michael's motivated. Of course, if Boston's still big, he could always back-up Alex Smith. :-)

* BREAKING NEWS: Bucs Sign WR Boston
------------------------------------------------
TAMPA - A week after working him out at their One Buc Place complex, the Bucs signed wide receiver David Boston to a contract, the Tribune has learned. Boston is a former first-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals (eight overall) who spent the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins but played sparingly because of injuries. Boston had a breakout season in 2001, catching 98 passes for a league-leading 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.
