This issue is one that Gruden began addressing during the off-season following Super Bowl XXXVII. The phrase he was using at the time was "turn the page." I think it's been an issue for going on three seasons now and, really, our situation is somewhat unique in Super Bowl history. I can't think of another example of a team that had been built to near-championship status by one coach, deemed unable to get over the hump by management and then taken to the championship (despite signs of being in decline) by another coach. It's unprecedented. We're still facing some challenges that no other team has had to face. Of course the men who turned it around under Dungy remain loyal to him. In some cases it's created tensions with Gruden (Dunn, Keyshawn and McCardell's situations were all affected by this). The bottom line is everything this team's been through has made it impossible for m! any people at One Bucs Place to "turn the page". The fact that the situation was complicated further by a team already in decline having no cap flexibility has led to two losing seasons but time will heal all wounds. I think this started to get better with the exporting of Sapp, Lynch, McKay and Gramatica last year and; as we go forward; will continue to improve as fewer "Tony Dungy guys" are on this team.
I agree with Tim Brown. We haven't been a focused team the past two seasons. However, as younger players move into more prominent roles that situation will take care of itself. Clayton, Ruud, Cadillac, Griese (and Bruce Allen for that matter) didn't work for Dungy; they don't have championship rings; and they're going to restore the hunger and the focus that this team had in the late 90s. Personally, I think you're going to see a huge improvement in this area starting this season.

Tim Brown, on NFL Total Access today, was talking about players who live on their past (the conversation dealt mostly with contract issues around the league). In his remarks, he pointed out how several players in Tampa (no names named) were still talking about plays that they had made in the Super Bowl, and not focusing on the plays that were to be made in the season.
Derrick Brooks was there, and he seemed to agree that that was a problem, one he acted like he hadn't really noticed before, and he seemed resolved to go back and fix it.
So, what do ya'll think? Are we living on our past?
Ish
