Just a reminder that the the
Brooklyn Tri Club holiday party is scheduled for tomorrow Saturday,
December 19th. The party this year will be held at Sheep Station (149
4th Ave/Douglas) from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. Come catch-up with friends and
meet new members over some food and drinks. Food and the first two drinks won't cost you a thing. It also looks like the weather is going to make things more festive, so Sheep Station will be a great place to hide from the cold, or you can look forward to some frolicking in the snow afterward.
Please see the
attached flyer for more details.
Please RSVP to this link, so we have an idea how many people will be attending.
Hope to see you all there!
Tom
PS: We plan to move away from this Yahoo site in the future, so don't forget to sign-up for the new BTC Forum - www.brooklyntri.org/community
I won't be able to make it to Saturday's class from 11-1. Please contact me directly at laurasarasua@yahoo.com if you are interested in the spot. Thanks!

Dear Jonathan,
I would like to be considered for a Board position with the Brooklyn Tri Club. Although I have only been a member of the Brooklyn Tri Club a short while I have attended many club events. Recently, I have been volunteering my time back to the club for the benefit of my fellow club members through organizing events, seeking out resources to benefit all BTC members, and leading some of the Tuesday night runs.
As a Board member I believe my professional and personal experiences will help me be a positive and proactive addition to the Club's stewardship and facilitate the Club's aims and goals.
In my professional life I have successfully managed highly complex, high pressured, multi-variable events in key management roles in the motion picture entertainment industry. Additionally, I have used and implemented many technology driven projects that are computer based; some public web facing. It is my belief that these organizational and technical skills will well serve the BTC board and general Club as we grow in membership and activities.
In my personal life, I have been a member and a founder of several club sports while in college. I re-founded the Sailing Club, which is active today and winning races in the competitive New England college sailing circuit, after a many year lapse. I also founded an inline skating hockey intramural club and was a member in good standing of the Rubgy team for two years playing home and away games against teams across New England. From the age of six I have been active in a variety of sports and enjoy competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
Thank you for considering me for a Brooklyn Tri Club board position and if elected look forward to bringing my excitement and enthusiasm for Triathlon's sports and sports in general to benefit our club members.

We want to notify the club that several long-time board members will be stepping down at year-end. Our sincere gratitude is extended to Emily Johnson, Phil Noyes, andAdam Watson. The contributions of these individuals have helped shape the club into a 200+ member organization that has put the sport of triathlon on the map in Brooklyn and beyond. We look forward to their continued participation and contributions to the club in the years to come. Please share with us our indebtedness and best wishes to Emily, Phil, and Adam.
Due to these vacancies, we will be recruiting four to five new board members to join current members, Jonathan Blyer, Tony Claudino, Alex Villari, Len Lopate and Tom Malone. Jonathan will be leading up this process, so if any member would like to be considered for a board position, or nominate a fellow club member, please contact him directly at jonblyer@yahoo. com. There are several roles to be filled on the board, and we are looking for a diverse group of individuals who can make the time commitment to bring the club to the next level. The expectations of board members are to attend board meetings, help organize social, training and intellectual events, coordinate club sponsorships, and many other tasks. There are a few requirements for prospective board members including club membership for at least one year, regular attendance to club events and the recent completion of a triathlon.
Additionally, with the recent vacancies on the board, there have been changes made with club officer positions. Tom Malone has been voted to take over Emily Johnson's role as President. Jonathan will remain club Treasurer.Tony Claudino has stepped down as Vice-President. The positions of Vice-President and Secretary are to be determined.

On deck for tonight are running injury prevention stretching,
exercises, and drills along with an 8:30-9:00 min mile pace

All,
Just to reiterate what Tony said.
There is now a forum for Brooklyn tri members to use for discussion, please sign up and start using it instead of the yahoo group. You can subscribe to threads and topics so that you get e mailed when there are new posts, I recommed you do this for anything you're interested in.
We are working on the plans or this yahoo group, which is Brooklyns largest online athletic community.
We have the following discussion boards set up: -- General Discussion -- Training / Racing -- Ironman Training Group (only open to members doing or training for an IM) -- Juggling Triathlons and kids -- Buy and Sell
Registration: Please sign up. FYI, when you need the verification numbers/letters, please use the sound option. The visual is not working for some reason. We will be manually confirming you after you register.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me
offline.

What:
Lap Swimming 25m at the new olympic pool in Flusing Meadows Corona Park.
Approximately 45-60 min plus locker room changing time.
$78 / year covers all the City's Parks Department Recreation Centers with and without pools. City rec centers have weight rooms and basketball courts and other amenities. Lowest cost fitness program in the NYC.
I, Michael, will drive by Ozzies at 5:30p sharp to pick up BTCers.
Red Hook Track was gorgeous this morning at 9 am. Bright sunny light. Low humidity. Almost no wind. Quiet. And a balmy 27ºF. Truth be told the cold didn't seem to bother either of us in the least. Another way of seeing things is its easier to get use to the cold now than when the temps drop another 10º.
Terry Schmidt and I made our RH rendezvous after a short hike from Prospect Heights. After a brief info session we warmed up with a very casual four laps at a 9:30 pace followed by a brief stretch before Terry started his test.
Terry called out his HR and lap times at the proscribed 200m splits and I dutifully logged them. Back at tri training HQ, i.e. my apt, I worked up Terry's running field test data and sent him off a chart with some suggested HR training zones until his next running training test based off Joe Friel HR lookup tables.
This was my first time at the Red Hook Track but I'll definitely be back. It's a newish looking track with the new school style rubberized grippy coating. So much softer than the asphalt we ran in HS Track a couple eons ago.
In other news, Terry is getting married in a couple of weeks and packing up for points out West. Best of luck T!
I'm done with running test for a little while. Next round is likely to be sometime in the week of January 4-10th.
Look for announcements and come join the next running test. The test is a relatively short workout. The power of these tests is in comparing your fitness over time.
Next fitness test is the Graded Swimming Test this upcoming week@Dodge.
Any BTCers who want to test with me have a suggested time/date for a Dodge Swimming Fitness Test?
TrainingPeaks has a section for tracking gear wear. If you sync from your 305, select the component from the drop down and it will automagically apply the miles.

Maybe I'll give training peaks a shot then. Now I have a Garmin 305 which I like.
I have always used Mapmyrun both on my laptop and the iPhone (although the app is clumsy and who wants to lug their phone when training.. and the GPS is crap)
I do like knowing how much mileage I am doing on my running shoes and what the bicycle components mileage is too.. With the gear tracker on MMR.
For Nutrition I use the "Lose It" iPhone app, which is very easy to keep track of what I am eating and calories burned and what % of protein, carbs, etc.
Appreciate all the comments

I've been using trainingpeaks for a month now. Syncs with my Garmin 305. Bulky but thorough interface. Site/tool is in active development. Can share maps and workouts too but I haven't made use of that feature. About a medium steep learning/set up curve with trainingpeaks.
Nice features:
Can be set for Tri specific mode
Has preset sets of training plans via 'virtual coach' for free
Can track nutrition.
Calendar feature works pretty well.
Deep.........
Syncs with lots of gadgets like GPS and power meters on bikes.
