A few things: I've been in touch with Jon Cane of citycoach about using his indoor spin studio for some group workouts. His studio is on 5th st. and 6th avenue and it has 6 computrainers set up and networked so that 6 people can ride the same simulated course simultaneously. I participated in a race there a few weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. It's a great way to get a longer ride in during the winter, when most of us are stuck on indoor trainers during the week. He's agreed to give us a discounted price of $15 per person for a 90 minute session (normal price is $20). The time he has available is Thursdays from 8:30 to 10pm. Before I confirm with him that we're going to use the studio, I wanted to make sure there is interest out there to do so. If you think that it's somethin you'd participate in, then please let me know.
We'll be swimming again on Saturday morning at 8am at the Berkeley Carroll pool if anyone is interested in joining us.
I've been in touch with the YMCA about using their room again for another meeting next week. I think it's important that the comittees sit down again sometime soon to brainstorm ideas and assign some individual tasks. I asked for Wednesday night, but I will keep you all posted on what's available as soon as I find out.

Yes - there are relay teams ... but, I believe
registration is already closed. World class
swimmers come from around the globe to
swim around Manhattan - 28.5 miles.
Start training now for next year.
Volunteer to see what you're in for.
I did ... it is fantastic !
They have other races and open water swim clinics.
Aquathons - swim/bike ... etc.
more info. at http://www.nycswim.org
I volunteered for them 2 years ago and fell in love
with the organization.

As we mentioned in the meeting, a few of us have been swimming regularly at the Berkeley Carroll school on Saturday mornings. I'd like to invite anyone to join us at 8am sharp, we'll have a workout of about 2200 +/- yards.
All, Thank you so much for showing up tonight. We're very pleased with the amount of people who showed up and who wanted to get involved, I think were off to a great start.
Below is what I was able to read off of the handwritten committe sign up sheets. Please let me know of any typos/additions/subtractions and I'll send out a finalized version.
Thanks a lot,
Jonathan

Dear Cyclists and Triathletes,
I am writing to you from Fernando Carvalho Ciclismo in Portugal – this year we are running two ten day cycling camps (in April and June) aimed at intermediate level club cyclists and above. The April camp is run in association with Peaks Coaching Group ( http://www.peakscoachinggroup.com/index.htm ) from the US and the June camp with Gears and Tears ( www.gearsandtears.com ) Triathlete specialists from the UK. They will give cyclists a chance to train with a professional cycling coach in a group of 15 to 25 cyclists in some of the best cycling country in Europe. We would like to know if any of your riders may be interested in participating.
These camps use many of the same facilities and routes of the regular Training Tours we run, but include many extras:
-Daily guided group rides
-Full SAG support
-Massages
-Professional coaching
-Evening seminars on all aspects of training and racing
We use absolutely stunning accommodation in the wilderness of northern Portugal, where you will find empty, well-surfaced roads, plenty of sun and some really testing climbs.
Please see our website at www.fcarvalho-ciclismo.com and click on the link to training camps for further information, or contact me directly at this email address.

I started doing triathlons last year. I got into them because for the past few years I've done several century bike rides and just needed a new challenge. Last year I did an olympic tri in Rincon, Puerto Rico. My chip fell off and my name never registered. Oh well, I finished. :-) Second was the Staten Island sprint tri. This time there was no equipment malfunction.
At the present, I'm in week 7 of an 18 week training program for the May 1 Long Island Marathon. This will be my first marathon. My calendar this also includes th NYC Tri, the Staten Island tri and several century bike rides and runs of various distances. My real goal this year is not so much the marathon, but testing the water (i.e. ability to run and its impact on my knees) for doing my first Ironman - which would probably be early 2006 somewhere in South America. Needless to say, while a tri newbie, I've been bitten by the bug.
Motivation....honestly, I've been pushing myself. I have friends who are usually just into one sport, but not all three. I swim some mornings at Eastern Athletic Club in Brooklyn Heights. I also swim once a week with a Master swim team (www.tnya.org). The swim team is divided up by levels, so don't feel discouraged. I run with NY Road Runners, have even taken their classes, which are excellent. When it's warm, I bike with www.nycc.org and www.5bbc.org. At the moment, however I do cycling classes at NY Sports Club either at lunch or night. (i know, two gym memberships....NYSC does not have a pool close to me).
Once the club is established, perhaps group brick sessions will take place, or at least we have running partners. I belong to www.tanyc.org, and they have brick sessions, but I was not able to take advantage of them last year because of the time of day they started.
Cheers,
Dean

Last summer was my first triathlon race. After a week at Total Immersion's Tri-camp, we entered the sprint distance Vermont Sun series. I
finished, but it wasn't pretty. I also ran in the Schiff Scout Camp off road sprint dist.tri a few weeks later. Still not pretty, but better. Then the summer ended, and so did all training. I think if I were part of a club I might have continued training because my enthusiasm was very high, it still is. Unfortunately, I out-numbered myself in the vote on whether to train or watch a movie. I suspect voter fraud. Perhaps this club will help sway the vote, there is strength in unity I have never been a member in a club like this so I don't have any expectations other than to meet some like minded friends, share some experience, and have some fun. Really looking forward to being a part of the club and thank you for making the
effort.
