The wheels are going to Helene's high school tri team, but the
crankset and parts are still available. I'll keep them until the end
of next week and then put them on the curb if no one wants them.

Just wanted to let all of you know that Marianne Bellino and Jack Smith are in the Netherlands competing in the World Championships.  I cannot find the results so far but I am sure they finished by now.

I'm consolidating my bike gear and giving away the following to the
first person who wants them (priority to a charity group, if anyone
has one that needs bike gear). Please contact me directly at
khobson@... rather than replying to the list because I get it
in digest form.

1 pair of 700cc wheels. Mavics, came with my Cannondale in 2002. Good
shape, with a 12x25 cassette, includes tubes/tires.

1 Cannondale double crankset (and, I think, bottom bracket?). 52/42
teeth. Needs a clean but otherwise fine.

1 box assorted bike parts -- I don't know what everything is, but if
you repair bikes, I'm sure you'll find some use for some of it.

Tell me what you want, and we'll arrange a time for you to come pick
it up. I live in Cobble Hill and work at home most days.

The next Foundations cycle will meet on Thursdays at 8pm and Sundays at 1:30pm. The dates will be:
9/25, 9/28, 10/2, 10/5, 10/8, 10/12, 10/16, 10/23*. There will be no class the weekend of October 18th.

The Foundations program is a bi-weekly 4 week course where athletes-in- training go to learn the elements of CrossFit. All the major lifts and movements will be taught from scratch with an emphasis on technical proficiency. These classes follow a group training format and can be scaled for your existing skill level. Basic homework assignments will also be assigned each cycle which will assist in your education and success as a CrossFit athlete. You have to go through the Foundations cycle if you'd like to join us at the Brooklyn Tri club, Thursday, 6 am class.

Please email me at Rmaldon240@gmail. com if you are interested.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Barbara Warren, one of the world's elite
endurance athletes in her age group and one-half of a well-known pair
of triathlete twins, has died after breaking her neck in a bike crash
at the Santa Barbara Triathlon. She was 65.

Warren, of San Diego, died Tuesday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital
when her family told doctors to take her off a ventilator, her twin
sister Angelika Drake told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Warren crashed her bike on a downhill road about halfway through the
34-mile cycling section of the race on Saturday, race director Joe
Coito said.

Warren was paralyzed from the neck down and was breathing with the
aid of the ventilator. Drake said her sister told the family by
blinking and nodding that she wanted to die.

"I talked to her and she nodded over and over and over again. She
wanted to leave," Drake said. "No athlete would like to have a life
with only their eyes talking."

Warren's two daughters and her husband Tom were also with her at the
hospital when she died.

Warren won her age group in the 2003 Ironman Triathlon World
Championship in Hawaii. She competed in the race, the world's top
triathlon, 13 times and finished in the top five in her age group
eight times.

The two sisters alternated riding bikes in the Race Across America,
covering 2,983 miles in less than 10 days.

Warren also competed in a seven-day race across the Sahara Desert,
and finished a triple Ironman in France that included a 7.2-mile
swim, 336-mile bike ride and 78.6-mile run.

Warren was well-loved among younger triathletes.

Michellie Jones, who won a triathlon silver medal in the 2000
Olympics and won the 2006 Ironman World Title, was also a twin who
remembered her fondly.

"She always asked about my sister," Jones said. "She understood the
bond."

Warren's twin said she lay next to her sister as she died.

"My heart and my soul are gone," Drake said. "She was everything in
my life."

Friends -

In wanting to help with this effort to get cars out of our beloved
park I contacted the good folks at Transportation Alternatives to see
how we could be helpful.

We have a great opportunity here. Ask yourselves:

+ Have you ever feared for your life in the park because of cars?

+ Do you feel as though the one place that is designated to be a get
away from the buzz and traffic of the city should be kept that way?

Then lets help transalt make this dream a reality:

We will be gathering at Cadman Plaza at 4pm on September 15, and
marching across the Bridge with the park-side City Council members,
and other supporters, to a rally at City Hall at 5pm.

Together we can take our park back.

Contact me if you would like to join.

I second Jon's reccomendation to get A.R.T. I have used Dr. Sands for
2 years. She is conveniently located in Park Slope and an ART
specialist (as is her partner/husband).

http://www.parkslopechiro.com/

Trust me, no one is more injury-prone than I am. I've had ITB,
tendonitis in the knee, foot and shoulder, and plantar fascitis. Dr.
Sands has helped me to quickly recover from these injuries and get
back to training. Since recovering from plantar fascitis a year ago
(thanks to Dr. Sands), I haven't been sidelined for more than a week
with an overuse injury - that's a much better rate than the previous
3 years. Active Release Therapy is a deep tissue, active massage. Dr.
Sands really knows how to find the root of pain and work it out. And
if you are biased against chiropractics, no worries - just tell them
that you don't want your back adjusted. The treatment still does the
trick.

only store that I've seen that carries it is the a running store in

lasts a lot longer than your average foam roller, and it's also MUCH
harder, which means it also hurts more :-)

Bassman you're doing in six weeks? Me too. I tried riding this
morning for the first time in two weeks and though I went easy and
only did four laps my knees are feeling a bit testy this afternoon.
So, don't start back too quickly. It also might be helpful to try and
figure how you got it in the first place. Todd Colby mentioned to me
that his knees will hurt if his shoe clips are old and need
replacing. It just so happened that mine were way overdue for
replacement. You might want to check that out. Take anti-
inflamatories. Or scotch.
