Hi All,

I'm sending round a message from my coach Cami Stock, a former Air Force officer
and Air Force athlete of the year (at the time, I believe it was 2003 or 2004,
when she was training for an Olympic triathlon spot). She's an unbelievable
coach, and has the ego of a monk (not much of one, that is); after knee injuries
sidelined me for a few years, I hit the pool, and Cami turned me into a
competent swimmer within just a few months. I trust her more than anyone with
understanding the fragile post-injury mindset that can drive one mad when you
can no longer do what you want, at the intensity you want to do it. She's also
a lot of fun and incredibly inspiring.

See below for more info about her half marathon training program.

Anu

Athletes,

As I've mentioned to some of you, I'm REALLY excited about this. I'm putting an
online training team program together for the Las Vegas Half Marathon, 7
December. Notes and details are below. Please pass the letter below on to
anyone who may be interested (here or anywhere in the country/world!)...this
project is dependent almost entirely on word of mouth. Thanks much! Cami
Happy Training,
Cami

Message Below:

Las Vegas Half Marathon Virtual Training Team Program

Hello All,
I hope this finds you doing well. As you may know, I’ve moved from the
capacity of professional athlete to coach, and I’m very much loving my job.
To that end, I wanted to find a fun and rewarding goal for my athletes—some of
them want a party with a race, while others want a race with a party. I settled
on the Las Vegas Half Marathon as a site for both! I also wanted to create
something affordable while still being personal. To that end, I’m creating a
training program specific to this race, catered to the needs of the athletes who
elect to join this group. The details for this Virtual Training Group are
below.
This is entirely a grassroots effort, and I’m only sending this to athletes,
friends, and family. It is my hope that groups of friends will see this as a
great opportunity to meet up in a warmer place while having a goal to keep them
honest before the holidays kick into full gear.
Please pass this on to as many people as you think would be interested and gain
from the experience. This is time-sensitive, as the race will fill up very
quickly. So tell your girlfriends, guy friends, make some friendly wagers…and
I hope to see some of you in Vegas!

Training Plan Information:
Duration: 13 weeks; begin training 01 Sept
Goal: Las Vegas Half Marathon , 7 December 2008

Includes:
Specific run workouts (3-4/week) based on beginner and intermediate abilities
Workouts will be focused and based on the group and individual questionnaire
Program created based on group’s input and ability level
Supplemental workout recommendations for non-running days
Access to online blog, where I will make posts and you can provide
comments/questions
Monthly Newsletter from your coach—questions, race topics—everything you
need to know to help you prepare for race day.
A great winter goal before the holidays! Grab your friends for a fun and
challenging experience!
Can’t do the race but still want to train?
Join the training program anyway, and follow along. There are a lot of races
around that timeframe and may be one in your local area—or run w/friends!
Cost: $75 for entire program, less than $25/month
NYC Athletes who want to train w/a group:
             Contact me directly—additional fee applies
If interested, do the following:
Register for the race—do this SOON. I don’t know when the race will reach
max capacity, so take care of this as soon as you can. If you have trouble
registering, contact me.
Reply directly to me at camicoach@... with your intent to join—more
information will follow, including liability waiver and questionnaire.
Check out my blog for recent updates, and feel free to post questions:

FYI -
Don't think of this as a training opportunity, rather an opportunity to reclaim
the streets for a few hours.

On August 9th, 16th and 23rd from 7am – 1pm the NYCDOT will host Summer
Streets. For the first time in history, Summer Streets will provide New Yorkers
with 90 blocks of contiguous car-free streets between the Brooklyn Bridge and
Central Park, including Park Avenue up to 72nd Street. You will be able to
run, walk, bike, skate, jump, play, sit, dance and relax; the streets will be
yours.

Transportation Alternatives is leading a fun, leisurely-paced, 5-mile ride from
Bed-Stuy to Summer Streets.

Date: August 9th
Start location: Tompkins Park, located at 254 Tompkins Avenue (between Greene
Avenue and Lafayette Avenue)
Start time: Ride begins at 9AM
RSVP at summerstreets@... or at 212.629.8080, mention the Bed-Stuy ride
in your e-mail.

The rides will be great for cyclists of all ages and riding ability. Riders
will receive a special gift when they stop by the T.A. tables at 54th Street and
Spring Street along the route.

If you need a helmet for the ride, call 311 and make an appointment to pick up a
free helmet at Woodhull Hospital.

For more information about Summer Streets visit: www.summerstreets.org.

If you are interested in being a bike marshall for the ride leaving Bed-Stuy
tell me and I will try to hook you up. There is a ride leaving from Park Slope
as well.

i cannot wait for the second annual track meet. as a matter of fact, waiting is going to be so hard, i think there needs to be winter games! say in february with events like the 100m snow shoveling,  800m sled pull,  snowball shuttle run, etc... and ohh yeah, a maximum 42 degrees competition temperature.  ahaha
i never found out who brought the fresh basil, but that was a pizza topping jewel.  mmmmmmmm
thanks again to all of you who made the evening happen.

Just show up with your tri gear and $25.  It is a great cause, beautiful beach (many people stay and hang out after) and great training.

By car exit the belt pkwy "Flatbush Ave/ ROCKAWAYS"  As you go over the bridge stay left and follow the road into the rockaways.  Stay inn the right lane and bear right around a roundabout.  This road will take you down to 124th street and the beach.  Park anywhere.

I still have the dingo that Amy R. drew on my leg.

No one has asked me about it. I suppose they think it's normal for me.

and I am still wearing my Dingo-bling as well!

I had a great time. I think with the rising cost of triathlon and sports in general, activities like these are essential to keep it fun, grass-roots, and at the same time be able to compete at a pretty high level.

my only suggestions:

1) point structure with gender equity? first place woman and first man in each event scores equal points. of course this would make scoring more difficult but our super fast women should be credited when credit is due.
2) another one in the spring to kick off the season?
3) a rematch vs. phil

thanks for the fun!
Michael

p.s. i am still wearing my medals.

It was fun to judge, too. And while Josh *almost* managed to kill me with the hammer, I'll be OK. Physically at least.
I uploaded a few pictures from last night's festivities to the club's flickr page: http://flickr.com/groups/brooklyntri/
Sorry there aren't more. all that hammer / friscus / rock retrieving / dodging proved more time consuming than you might believe.

I just wanted to thank all the people that came out to make the 1st
Annual BTC Track Meet a huge success. My hats off to The Dingos who
showed grit and cunning to take the team trophy. And kudos to The
Moles who for rodents showed uncanny courage in the heat of the
ravenous Dingo onslaught.

We had 40 competitors and could have had about 40 more judging by the
responses I got. It was a good first run and we hope to do it
again. And no one got hurt (I think).

Without furhter ado thanks to...

John Ficarra, who masterfully MC'ed the event, kept things running
smoothly and just plain kicked ass - as usual. Thanks John.

The judges - Rich, Nicky, Anne, Matt (please get better!), Jaime,
Joanie, and Mo - were just extraordinary. On little time, they
organized the events, got people to the starts, flawlessly scored the
meet, and didn't take my bribes.

Tony, went beyond expectations per usual, copiusly filming the entire
event getting interviews, commentaries, and endless highlights. I
even caught some commentary in Spanish courtesy of Jose! Can't wait
to see the tape! I'll return the favor in Hawaii.

Thanks to Emily, Conrad, Amy, Rob, and Bjorn for event organizing,
advice, awards, THE ROPE, and the after event bar. My only question
on the tug of war - did I see Team Dingo chugging red bull before
that event? Is that legal?

Event of the Night: lets take a poll but from my perspective it was
the 8x400. I mean how can you ask for anything more than 3 HUGE lead
changes in one event? The pushups were pretty serious too. Who won
between Jonah and Dingo?

Athlete of the Night: Votes?

Head to Head Duel of the Night: 1/2 mile and mile. Mike & Phil. Phil
& Mike. Um, can I borrow a sliver or your engine for my next race?

Revelation of the Night: Josh. What the f????? Where have you
been? It was serendipity that I put him in the mile and the 8x400.
I had no freaking idea that the boy is so fast.

And thank you to our sponsors Haig and Kirsten of Slope Sports and to
George and Alejandra of CityTri. We could not have pulled the event
off without your support.

Til next year!

been? It was serendipity that I put him in the mile and the 8x400.
I had no freaking idea that the boy is so fast.

And thank you to our sponsors Haig and Kirsten of Slope Sports and to

Til next year!

Thanks to everybody for the event, I really wasn't expecting something so organized and with so many people, the event helped me (and I guess other BTC members) realize how 'rusty' I was in the track! It was nice to meet Phil and Katherine's baby, Elijah, a future BTC Hall of Fame member (long legs like his father). Pity my wife Cristina couldn't make it because she was in a business trip, perfect chance to meet new BTC members. Good day, Jose

Here are my votes/thoughts:

*Event of the Night: 8x400 was pretty exhilarating. So many people got to participate, and everyone ran as hard as possible. Close seconds were the Indian Sprints and the tug of war.

*Jonah won the push-up contest by about 10 pushups.

*Revelation of the Night: Amy Lombardo. She did 33 push-ups in one minute. That's just 10 less than the Dingo!

i'm actually anti-yankz because they are not the easiest to lace up
and mine also kept coming lose.

the most successful ones I have used were the $5 ones they sell at SBR
which need no instruction to lace up, not too thick and are very, very
easy to adjust.
