Thx Tony!
I'll make sure to write up a post race report provided it's not a traumatic
experience for me ;-) I plan to take it all in & likely donning BTC gear on the
course!

Ray Sales is doing Ironman Arizona this weekend. Good luck Ray you will kick some butt. Wait, remember you just want to finish the first one. You will kick butt on your 2nd ironman.
I'm a beginning rider heading back out to Lido Beach Saturday if the weather is
decent.
If you're up for a ride, just give me a shout. Suggest a better destination/ride
if you like....
I'm no speed demon....
i like that chirunning combines certain practices from both yoga & pilates.
breating, relaxing, & body sensing from yoga. engaging core muscles as in
pilates instead of just power running w/ your legs. all of this helps while
running as well as multi sports training & more importantly can help you enjoy
the actual activity.

The Vittoria Rubino pros are really good flat resistant winter training tires.

Hi BTC,
Hoping to get some thoughts on what kinda rubber folks ride. Any takers?
What do you like to train on?
What do you like to race on, if different?
Anyone every try the Hutchinson Tubeless system?
Anyone ever try a puncture resisting system, aka Stans?
Check out the video at 5:55 where Stan? punches through both, sidewalls!

I used mine at the pool once this summer and it broke after 10 yds. I did however use it at SOS two years ago and it was fine in the water. I contacted Garmin and they said it wasn't water resistance although they are now probably trying to sell the 310XT to triathletes. Anyway Garmin replaced the unit for $80. I highly recommend it.

I haven't had the need (or the guts ;-)) to swim with my 305, but I have seen people wearing them at the pool to no apparent ill effect.
Thanks for all the info on this product and the alert about the sale on amazon. I ordered one and am looking forward to using it.

I've been very pleased with my Garmin 305. Overall it's improved my running.
Its feature set is very deep and, even if you don't use all of it, the bits that
you do use are quite helpful. For example, I've really improved my pacing (a
personal weak point) by enabling its pacing alerts. I'll mentally drift and
lose the pace I'm supposed to be hold and it'll beep a tone to let me know. The
tone is even ascending or descending in pitch for too fast or too slow, so you
can adjust without even looking at it. Intervals, multi-sport, wireless heart
rate, etc. it's got a lot of power.
It does have a few flaws:
1) It's not small. For the first few runs you'll notice it. After that it's no
big deal.
2) Takes a while after turn-on to gather enough satellite readings before you
can begin. An annoyance for tightly-scheduled morning runs.
3) Its altitude reading are useless. Not slightly wrong; useless. Latitude and
longitude readings are good enough that I can see which side of the street I ran
on, but elevation profiles, even with a wide open view of the sky, are
laugh-out-loud funny.
Bottom line: I'd buy it again, no hesitation.

Seconding Chaim! Have had my 305 since the Spring. Love it! Amazing tool for self-coaching. As Chiam said you can program workouts such as interval sessions and the watch will prompt you. Prompts can be for speed/pace, heart rate, distance, or all three. There is also a 'virtual training partner' mode. The watch has multi-sport mode which can even track transition times. Programming can be done directly on the watch or more conveniently from your computer which connects to the watch via USB cable.
The only caveat I know of for the watch are the following. In which case the Forerunner 310xt is your watch of choice:
If you are doing full Ironman the watch will likely run out of battery before you finish a long training day or race (±8 hours of battery). 310xt has@20h of batter per charge.
You are training with a PowerTap or other Ant+ compatible power metering system. The Forerunner 310xt can sync to the PowerTap and display watts and other PowerTap data.
I have not taken the watch swimming, well it was under my cap for the NYC Tri. Supposedly it is sealed for surface swimming water pressure.
Run and bike with the 305 with cadence chip for bike. There is a cadence chip for running as well. Have had no issue with water or sweat. I rinse mine off upder the tap after every sweaty workout. Good as new many months later.
Got mine from Amazon as a package: 305 w/ heart rate strap, quick release kit for wrist and bike mount, and bike cadence chip (wireless). Set up was good. Technical but not terrible. Instruction were good.
Chips are sometimes a little slow to acquire a satellite lock. What seems to work best is to put the watch on the window ledge before a workout and let it get a satellite fix before I start moving the watch. Seems to have an easier time locking if the watch is stationary, which makes sense.
Garmin software is available for Mac and PC. PC software was Garmin's focus but they are becoming more Mac centric.
Recently, I started using TrainingPeaks to as diary and self-coaching tool. I have also enjoyed playing with Trail Runner. Both have the ability to import the GPS and other data from the watch.
yes! CIBBOWS is still there Sat/Sun around 10 AM. If you talk to Cristian, he may be able to get you access to the Y in order to warm up (sauna/shower) on Sundays. It's very informal out there, so I'd check with him for any last minute scheduling changes:
Polar Bears are out there now, too, around 1 PM I believe.

it's probably more sweat-friendly than the 405.

I had PT at Professional after a shoulder fracture. My particular therapist was quite good, but as PT often goes, it all depends on the therapist. I had gotten a recommendation from a friend who went there before me.

Hey Folks,
The weather looks perfect for a nice run tonight in the park. As
usual, we meet at grand army plaza, inside the park, at 7pm. Count on
one loop of the park with maybe some hill repeats at the end if we're
feeling a little wild and crazy.
See you there,
Jonathan
