Hi All,

I'm new to the group and newbie Marathoner - NYC will be my first. Does the
Brooklyn club have a group that trains for NYC together? Are there any "slow
runners" out there that train together I'm a 11 mile pace and looking for some
running buddies.

Drop me a line if you can offer some suggestions.

All the best,

KARL

The race is now closed to entries, but if you entered, please show up for it even if it's raining tomorrow morning, which is a near certainty.

No one else I've spoken with so far has entered, and we need 5 men for an official team. The race starts near Tavern on the Green, so it's accessible by many different trains.

In your official capacity as club reps I wonder if you could please send out an email to your membership encouraging them to partake on JUNE 28th in the Hope & Possibility 5-miler in Central Park.
I know better than most there are all sorts of charities trying to get people to sign up for all kinds of odd causes, but the Achilles hits home because it is us, and they are ours.  It is the wing of our local running community that looks after the runners who have disabilities (some recent, some as a birth right).

It will be a great race, we have raffles, food, the Governor coming to run etc, Nick Goose is the starter for all the free kids races, your race bib is worth a 25% discount at Urban Athletics on non sale items.... but more than all this.  Well put it this way, there is a girl who in her own words would be in an institution and bed rest24hrs per day if it was not for the Achilles.  On the day she was brought by the club to a practice she could not walk from one lamppost to another.  Today she has completed over twenty marathons, travels around the world for sporting competitions, and was fencing for the USA at the paraOlympics....

http://www.nyrrc.org/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/aes-programs/registration/regstart.htm

The 150 FREE per year disabled programs that the Achilles puts on for its local chapter alone, are supported by this race.

All the best, and THANKS!

Toby

The Fairfield, CT 1/2 is June 28, http://www.fairfieldhalf.org/index.htm.  It is a scenic but challenging course that finishes on the beach and is accessible by MetroNorth (a little over an hour on the train and the station is about 1.5 miles from the start).  I've done this race 3-4 times in the past, taking MetroNorth once.

A little later in the season is the New Haven 20K, http://www.newhavenroadrace.org/.  Also accessible by MetroNorth.

Wondering if anyone knows of a half in July in the NYC tri-state area? I've looked on Runners World and Active and haven't found one.

Thanks.

Hi all, I will be moving to Bay Ridge June 1, and commuting into Manhattan to
work and attend school. I currently live right near central park and belong to
NYRR in Manhattan, so hope it won't be a huge adjustment to meet other runners
in Bay Ridge. I am totally unfamiliar with the area and would love to get in
touch with a runner or running group to meet in the mornings for runs. Please

From Mary Wittenberg:

It is with sincere regret that I share with you that we need to move Club Team Champs up one week this year to August 9. Trust me that we tried very hard to avoid moving the date, but the reality is that August 16th is the date that works for the City for us to conduct the NYC Half Marathon and for a variety of reasons this is what we need to do this year.

We understand how far in advance team members plan for this date so again, are sorry to share this news, but glad that we could do so this far in advance. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in understanding the situation and relaying the same to your team members.  The plan at this time is to return the Club Champs to mid- August next year.

Peter and I are happy to answer any questions that you may have on a conference call on Monday at 5 p.m. 866-866-2244. Participant code 4588527. In the meantime, you can reach out individually, as always, if you like.

We have not yet publicly shared the new NYC Half date because we wanted to share the news of the shift with you first.

It has been a tough year for finalizing dates of major events, but at this time, the major events that were in flux are all now settled: Brooklyn (May 30), Club Teams (August 9), NYC Half (August 16), Queens Half (Sept 20) and Fifth Avenue Mile (Sept 26).

On a brighter note, looking forward to seeing many of you on Saturday!

Very best, Mary

NYRR recently posted that Scotland Run 10k on April 11 in Central Park is
nearing capacity. This is the next team race and it would be great to get a
sizable contingent out there. Try to register as soon as possible to make sure
you get in.

Van Cortlandt 10k Trail Run
This Sunday (April 5th) at 10am at Van Cortlandt Park is a VCTC event. A great
way to get out of Prospect and run on some dirt. If anyone is planning on
driving please drop a message to the listserv if you have room in your car for
anyone else and a way to contact you directly. more info can be found at
www.vctc.org

Brooklyn Half Marathon
Still waiting on details of course, but still listed as May 30th(subject to
change). Keep training as we need a strong showing on our home course.

See you all out on the roads or track.

Now that I'm finally back (fingers crossed!) from my femur fracture I'm looking to do some longish (15 miles) runs as we head into Spring on *soft* surfaces. BRRC had a dismal showing at Coogan's: We didn't have a legal women's team (3 showed up), and we had 6 men, who finished in 20th place, our worst showing in many years.

For the Scotland Run, on April 11, please enter the race soon, as it is a capped race. The Colon Challenge filled up 3 weeks ahead of time, and that wasn't a team race, so if you snooze, you'll lose the chance to run this race.

I stepped down as men's team captain as of January of this year after 11 years' of doing it; the position remains unfilled, and anyone who wants to volunteer for it is free to do so. If you want to discuss what it entails, Steve Bonal's phone number is 917-238-9447, and mine is 718-469-0589.

I've enjoyed doing it, and it has really kept me in touch with virtually all active BRRCers, as they can attest. (I probably barely escaped arrest for harassment and stalking!) However, I'm now back running my other volunteer organization, the union at my workplace, and doing both is too much.

I will continue to run all the team races and talk them up at the group runs, so the next captain will have a very active informal assistant.

John,
You have been a wonderful team captain- motivating, knowledgeable and inspiring-
and I am sad to hear you will not be captain any more, but do understand the
other commitment. Thank you for leading the group as you did.

I look forward to still seeing you at the races and any group runs.

As well, Good luck to the new Captain!

Best,
Natalie

Unfortunately, I don't think posting on Feb. 28 was very useful for getting
people to come to the race the very next day, especially as it was in faraway
Washington Heights.

BRRC had a dismal showing at Coogan's: We didn't have a legal women's team (3
showed up), and we had 6 men, who finished in 20th place, our worst showing in
many years.

For the Scotland Run, on April 11, please enter the race soon, as it is a capped
race. The Colon Challenge filled up 3 weeks ahead of time, and that wasn't a
team race, so if you snooze, you'll lose the chance to run this race.

I stepped down as men's team captain as of January of this year after 11 years'
of doing it; the position remains unfilled, and anyone who wants to volunteer
for it is free to do so. If you want to discuss what it entails, Steve Bonal's
phone number is 917-238-9447, and mine is 718-469-0589.

I've enjoyed doing it, and it has really kept me in touch with virtually all
active BRRCers, as they can attest. (I probably barely escaped arrest for
harassment and stalking!) However, I'm now back running my other volunteer
organization, the union at my workplace, and doing both is too much.

I will continue to run all the team races and talk them up at the group runs, so
the next captain will have a very active informal assistant.
