Congratulations to two of our "alumni". Carl Selya-Hammer who recently moved to
Geneva ran a 2:54:32(with negative splits) at the Florence Marathon, setting an
8 minute PR. And Richard Gregory who moved to the UK about a year ago ran a
2:37:29, also a huge PR at the Florence Marathon. Congrats to both and way to
represent wearing the BRRC singlets.
I've missed every race this year but this one I plan to make. Ok my fellow females, let's pour it on! Betsy

Let's have a good turnout for the season finale. We need 5 women for a legal team, and there have been a few races this year in which we haven't had that many. And if you've been in hibernation after the marathon, here's a good spot to make your comeback race -- it'll be 5 weeks postmarathon, and that's plenty of recovery time.
Also, don't forget that the annual team dinner is on Dec. 10, a week from Wednesday. Check the website for details.
I am happy to run it, but I am slow (probably mid-8's for a 10K; haven't raced anything less than a half marathon in the last few years so not 100% sure). Happy to run if you are short of women, but also don't want to take down the team's time, so let me know. You can let me know last minute (once you've found out how many Paula Radcliffe's sign up ;-)

I apologize for the group email. I will follow up with individual emails soon though. As most of you know I have joined TNT (Team in Training) for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In doing so I have pledged to raise $4, 000.00 and run a Marathon in order to help find a cure to this horrible disease! I am aware that these are tough economic times but they are even tougher for those diagnosed with cancer...any contribution you can make is well appreciated!!!
I have $1,000 left to raise and the race in 1 month away!
Where Does Your Donation Go? $25 could pay for the cost of 1 patient's chemotherapy drug prescription co-payment. $50 could register 1 person to be a bone marrow donor.
$75 could provide HLA (bone marrow) typing for a family member of a patient with leukemia. $150 provides 10 patients access to a web-conference to learn about their specific blood cancer.
$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.
Our annual holiday dinner and awards ceremony will be Wednesday,
December 10 at 7:30PM at the Knights of Columbus (10th avenue off of
Prospect Park Southwest). $20 per person includes buffet dinner.

Hi, Laurie: Welcome! I am not running currently (stress fracture), but the group meets at 15th street and prospect park west across from the movie theaters at 9AM sharp. Typically, the group of 6-8people breaks out into smaller groups according to pace who then proceed to do 1-2 full loops (3.35 and 6.7 miles). So however long you would take to run the desired amount of mileage is how long it lasts. If you only have 1/2 an hour, run one loop. If you have 50-55 minutes, do two. Have fun and bundle up, Colleen

It's not not the cold, but really the wind that gets me... It was pretty bad in the park yesterday evening.. I bought a "windstopper" ear band a couple of years back that has been great...

Anyone sign up for the Knickerbocker 60K this coming weekend?
I just registered. I ran it last year --if you ran the NYC marathon, chances are you're up to par with your training, so why not try an Ultra?
9 loops of Central Park is kind of mind numbing, especially without the crows of last weekend's race...it would be awesome if we had some other BRRC's out there to run/cheer or at least do a few of the final loops with the people racing.
Let me know if you're planning to run, or if you'll be in the park Saturday morning :-)
Did you notice that Charlie was so fast, 3:26 Is this 15 minutes faster than last year?

Over the past few weeks I've finally buckled down and run some mile intervals.
I've figured out a fairly solid, easy mile course in the park and thought I'd
share it if anyone else is looking for one. I checked it on my bike odometer as
well as google pedometer, so I know that it's pretty close to if not exactly a
mile.
Start: Enter the park at Grand Army Plaza and you'll find a large, grassy
triangle. Right in the center of the side that borders the main park loop is a
light post. This is your starting point.
End: Run counter clockwise all the way around and past the 15th St. entrance to
the park (the Pavillion Movie theater corner). Keep going till you hit a
stoplight slightly down the hill that is also an official entrance/pathway out
to the ballfields. This stoplight is the end of the mile course.
It's not a perfect course-- it's slightly hilly. But if you live on that side of
the park it's very convenient. Also, as I was ending a longer run on sunday, I
made sure to hit this mile course to get an idea of how fast I was running.
Hopefully this is helpful to someone...
I have a physical therapist who I think is amazing!! Last year 3 weeks before the marathon I could barely go down a step without my knees killing. I did the marathon with no knee pain. His name is Mike Zazzali. His number is (212) 366-4450. The place is in the 20s off 5th in Manhattan and is called physical therapy associates of NY.
Feel better, Alison
