On Saturday, the 8th October, in central Park, with drinks, timing,
but no t-shirt. Just read it at the website of nyrrc:
http://www.nyrr.org/race/2005/r1008x00.php.

I copy it here:

Saturday, October 8 | Central Park, New York
  6 to 20 miles • 7:00 a.m. • Limited to the first 2,500 applicants

How many miles until you reach your training goal before November 6?
This choose-your-own-distance event provides all long run amenities
—including ample water stops and thousands of running partners—so that
you can concentrate on simply putting one training shoe in front of
the other.

Course
Start on Central Park's East Drive near the 102nd Street Transverse,
and complete counterclockwise loops. This noncompetitive run includes
water, lemon-lime Gatorade Endurance Formula, PowerGel, bagels, and
bananas along the course and at the finish.

Pace Groups
Participants will be divided into groups by half-minute intervals
from 6:30 through 11:00+ minutes per mile. All groups will cover 20
miles, but individuals may shorten their distance to suit their
training needs.

Check-in
Registration for this race is closed. You may still check-in at New
York Road Runners on:

  • Thursday, October 6, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, October 7, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
Near the start at the registration tent on:
  • Saturday, October 8, 5:45-6:45 a.m.
There is no souvenir for this event.

Grete's Galop was nice.

Mainly the food. Bagel with cream cheese and waffles.

The course was just running the rounds in the hilly Central park.

Apparently, we were still well represented.

Who will be running the long training run next week?

Geert.

Hi all

If I cannot find partners in the morning at 9:00 h for a long (14
miles) slow 8-9 mpm run, I will run in the afternoon at 5 o'clock for
brent. Usual place: park and 14th street.

There's a baseball diamond right next to the track and they have
lights to untill 9:00, I think. It does get a little gloomy towards
8:00, but it's still bright enough to keep from running into people.
However, I'm not sure how far into the fall the park will keep these
lights on. Without them it would be pitch black.

Geert et al.:

I said that Brent and I weren't running Grete's race because we were running the
HARTFORD Marathon, which is on Oct. 8, six days after Grete's. I heartily
encourage everyone else to run Grete's race, which is a team points race.
(Staten Island is NOT a team race this year.)

If you're running the NYC Marathon, you should definitely run at least 1 of the
2 half marathons, and if you only want to run 1, please make it Grete's. It's
(1) more convenient to get to, (2) further ahead of the marathon and (3) has
much better food after the race.

Regarding the poll that was recently started about Wednesday night
speed work outs...

I am currently taking a speed training class that meets Wednesday at
6:45 - 8:00 at the Red Hook track. I do not recommend that we run at
that day/time as there are 9 or 10 people in the plus 4 to 5 other
runners working out. It gets pretty crowded.

Anyone know what the mile markers are in Prospect Park? I know the
total distance of one loop, but don't know where the miles split are.

Also... any one know the distance (and/or the mile splits) of one big
loop plus one small loop? What I mean is, starting from Grand Army,
you run counter clockwise all the way around to just before the zoo
and take a left at the traverse (where the cops always sit). Then,
cutting through the park, continue back to the big hill on the south
side where you take another left (down hill) and swing back all the
way around the lake, past the zoo and up the north hill to Grand Army
again.

I love this run as it's a good workout without having to hit the hill
twice. I'm guessing it's 4.5 to 5, but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix:

Sunday, October 16, 2005
The NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix finishes with a scenic 13.1 miles along
the waterfront on Staten Island. Vistas of New York Harbor, Fort Wadsworth,
and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge reward the efforts of thousands of
participants. The race can serve as a final tune-up race or long training
run for ING New York City Marathon entrants or a rewarding grand finale for
those who choose not to focus on the marathon distance. Either way, it's a
satisfying culmination of a year's worth of effort—a superb achievement!
