Below are the notes from the Club Council meeting that Elias and I went to last week. There's info on the Local Competitive corral, transportation and the 4 course changes this year.

Please read carefully if you're running on Nov. 1.

New York Road Runner
Club Council Meeting Notes
Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Please note:
Please urge your club members who plan to visit the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo to do so on Thursday, October 29, if at all possible. The expo will be very crowded with out-of-town runners on Friday, October 30, and (especially) Saturday, October 31. Visiting on Thursday will allow local runners to avoid the crowds and should alleviate some of the crowding. Expo info: http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/expo.htm.

·  ING NYC Marathon
Transportation
·        Vehicles placards will be sent out the week of the marathon.  If anyone has any additional requests, email Drea Braxmeier @ dbraxmeier@...
<mailto:dbraxmeier@...>

·        Teams chartering buses and going across the Verrazano Bridge should plan to be at the foot of the bridge by 6:30am.  Marshals will direct buses to the right most lane on the toll plaza in Staten Island to unload

·        Teams chartering buses and getting to Staten Island via New Jersey should take Exit 15 (Lily Pond Exit) and unload underneath the overpass on Lily Pond Avenue.  Marshals will be in the area to provide direction

·        We have eliminated the 4am and 4:30 New York Public Library bus loading time slots therefore reducing the wait time at the start by 1 hour.  The increased assigning of the ferries allowed us to make this change.  Due to the high volume of runners at each of the transportation timeslots (buses & ferries) NYRR advises all runners to listen to their assigned timeslot so all runners can make it to the start comfortably and on time!

·        NYRR advises everyone to take the subway to get to their assigned transportation location to minimize the traffic on the streets

·        Bus staging area at the finish will be in the same location as last year-Central Park West between 86th Street & 96th Street.

Corral

The Local Competitive Program is designed to give a preferred starting position to those who meet a time standard based on gender and age.  Your starting position will be at the front of the green start, Wave 1.  This start is at 9:40am.

Your UPS Baggage truck will be the very first truck in a long line of UPS trucks.  CLICK HERE FOR A START MAP.
<http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/documents/Local_Competitive_Start_Layout.pdf>

Keep in mind that your baggage truck is approximately Ï€ mile away from the Local Competitive staging area.  Please allow yourself enough time to check your bag and get back to your staging area before your group is moved to the start line.

Timeline:
6:00 am – Baggage Opens
8:30 am – Suggested baggage check
9:05 am – Wave 1 corrals close.  Local Competitive athletes move onto the bridge, ahead of the general green start runners.  If you are not in the Local Competitive staging area at this time, you will not be allowed the preferred starting position.
