Trail In Danger
Action Meeting
Monday, February 13, 2006
6 – 8PM
Fort Collins Senior Center
The lower Horsetooth Rock Trail is in danger of being closed to mountain bikers.
The Draft Management Plan for Horsetooth Mountain Park, to be approved March 1st, calls for the closure of the lower Horsetooth Rock Trail to mountain bikers.
Feedback provided during a survey conducted by Larimer County and during the public meetings showed that conflicts between hikers and mountain bikers are rare – in fact the hikers who spoke up stated they find mountain bikers to be polite and yielding on the trail.
A compromise solution to have the trail as “Hiking Only” on weekends and holidays, while remaining open to mountain bikers at other times, is being proposed to address the peak demand for hiking usage of the trail.
Hear about the proposal and be involved in the efforts to work with the county to maintain trail access for all users. – on this trail and others that may be targeted in the future.
This is an action oriented meeting as the final decision on the trail closure will be made by March 1st. The full management plan can be viewed at http://www.co.larimer.co.us/parks/htmp_plan/ .
