Re: [BreakfastClubCycling] Got pulled over by "Today"...
Ilka: I am surprised the driver got out that easily. Seems unfair. Last weekend some nutcase passed a car coming down Rist with a double line into a corner while I was going up. Doesn't make cyclists misbehaving a right, but is it just me or the motorists as of late seemingly more dangerous to cyclists?
Steve: did you guys completely blow off the stop sign like it did not exist or do a "California stop"?
Others: I have never been one to run lights even if the light is stuck. I will go right for a bit and make u-turn. I do often California stop at signs when no one is around. I am curious you all are doing right now. Are you coming to a dead grinding put your foot down halt at every stop sign and red light if turning right if no one is present? Or the slow way up to show you acknolwedge the sign; look; then stand up and pedal (the cyclists CA stop)? I realize the former is correct, just curious.
I suppose I need to learn to do a track stand and enjoy the extra calories from a full stop and go.

Unfortunately, Steve, right now I seem to lack of sympathy. If there was a stop sign and the group didn't stop ...sorry! TTH or not TTH. I sure hope the Larimer Sheriff is getting serious about traffic violations and hopefully not only as to cyclists but more so as to cars.
By now you probably heard about the dead of Rebecca Allen and I'm wondering when the next idiot car driver drives into another cyclist. This woman did nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong, and for crying out loud, Drake, between Taft Hill and Overland, has a nice shoulder they were riding at and traffic at 5:30 am in the morning is by far from being crazy. I'm still puzzled. I rode by that spot this morning, saw the flowers, ribbons at the light pole she was thrown into, and I was quite shook up. Wrong time, wrong place - bang. Could be any of us. You never will see it coming.
Looks like if you kill someone while driving a car in this town you are off the hook quite easily. Suggest, next time you want to commit murder and walk your best bet is using your car and come up with a good story. The guy already was released. Perhaps someone can explain to me, with a legal age limit for drinking being 21, why a 20 year old who admitted of being drinking and killing someone in the process is not locked up and stays that way? Free country? For who? Car drivers? Now he's running (driving?) freely around ... Yuck!

All,
Just a quick heads up ("I'll blog more detail later"). The short story is that the TTH lunch group got pulled over today for not stopping at an intersection where a stop sign was present. Anyway, we avoided the $110 fine "each", this time. We got a 15 min lecture.... Moral of the story is that Larimer county is getting serious about enforcing traffic laws where bicyclists are concerned.
