At one point, my husband and I considered taking over the BRC newsletter since we create and maintain our own business website.  But when we saw how skillfully Rae Ann did this, we felt like we just didn't have the knowledge or time to do it.  That in addition to everything else she does, is just short of amazing.

The John Robbins (son of Robbins in Baskin-Robbins) book, Healthy at 100, says among many interesting things, that in the half dozen or so cultures where living to 100 is routine, celebrated, revered and always healthy, one thing they all share in common, besides a plant-based diet and living in strenuous mountain communities, is intergenerational living.

I thought it amazing yesterday how many children/teens were at the race, participating willingly and happily in an event with so many adults. What a wonderful accomplishment it is for the race organizers to pull that off.  These are memories kids will have forever and hopefully lead to a lifetime of understanding how important exercise is.  They may not know yet how lucky they are to have adults in their lives to plan and carry out these special events.

Hi Everyone! Now that we are over the t-shirt controversy I am here to
ask for help/advice from all you experienced runners! I have been asked
by St.Josephs School (since I think I am the only serious runner there)
to head up a School fun run/walk. They would only like to do a one mile
since the kids at the school are only from PK3 to 8th Grade. The plan
is to do it on Wednesday Oct. 22, 2008 after school around 3:30 just
before the annual Auction that is held on Oct. 25. (The school's major
fundraiser) I already have Publix/and Tropicana donating beverages.
(Tom- you really make these events run so smoothly and I know I
appreciate all you do.) I know the school wants t-shirts and hey Jenna,
maybe you can help design this one!!!!!!!!!I have alot of parents that
signed up to volunteer and have the school coaches marking the
course/field etc. I guess I am just asking for any advice/what you
think etc.. and if anyone would like to be a sponsor/have an idea go
ahead and email me! I didn't know if I should have one big group or
section it out by age/ wear bibs w/numbers, where to get the awards
etc... Hey maybe by the end of this Tom can train me to be the new race
director??? Thank you for any input!

If you have twenty to thirty hours to devote to each event, not
including course set up, Tom would love to have another understudy!
We can always use an extra set of hands and feet.

As for Saint Joseph's run /walk - You really do need to do age
(grade) groups. It isn't fair to a first grader to have to compete
with a seventh or eight grader and at the higher grades, 6, 7, and 8,
you might want to seperate girs from boys (the girls are faster!)

If you are doing the run / walk around the school there is not shade
so I would suggest a water stop at the 1/2 mile point especially for
the younger kids!

Are you going to 'time' the kids? What kinds of awards were you
thinking about, ribbons would be appropriate.

POLL QUESTION: Cane's Classic T-shirt
Anyone agree with me that this is the worst shirt ever?!
Why would a runner want something that looks like a bucket
of KFC on their shirt.
This will be the first race shirt that I have ever given away.

CHOICES AND RESULTS
- Worst shirt ever, 1 votes, 25.00%
- It's not that bad, 2 votes, 50.00%
- What's wrong with a KFC shirt, 1 votes, 25.00%

Having quickly counted my long Runs for my Fall Marathon (and coming up
with ZERO), it is imperative for me to get in 19?/20 this coming Sunday
August 17th. Thus this is an open invitation to join me for perhaps
the water stop loop?, beginning at the ugly hour of 5:45 AM. Pace?
Anywhere from 7:30 to 8:30's or so is fine.

Help ... please,

Fred

Friday night, August 15th at 7pm in FishHawk (Lithia). From I-75 it is
the exit before Brandon, so not a bad drive at all. The entry fee is
low too.

This is the last of these races of the summer. I highly recommend
them.

Full details are on the BRC race calendar

This is great! Maybe we could 'map' the courses we have for runs we
sponsor and sanction and post them on the BRC website and include them

Oh great!!!!  You will have to show me good areas to run.

I rented the house from cross country so I have never actually seen it or the exact area that it is in, so all I really knew was a street name.  As I am sure you understand, figuring out what part of Bradenton it was in was the least of my concerns right now, besides I don't even know the area well enough for West vs East to have any significance to me, ha, ha

Do you like that side of town?  What did you do in the health care field?

I am very happy with Lifestyle Family Fitness (lff.com). I've been a member through a few buyouts though so I have an OLD rate.  I have no idea if what I'm getting would be worth it at current rates because I don't know what they are.  It's busy, but not so busy that you have to wait an hour for a machine.  They have 3 locations in Bradenton which are pretty well spaced out - one in a central location, one on the West side and one on the East side by the interstate.

As for other places in the area, I have friends who have Shapes (exclusively for women) memberships and they like it.  I was in the Y for a meeting a couple of weeks ago and they have a workout room and other activities that may help you meet people in the area.  There are a few other smaller places, but I can't say that I've heard good or bad about any of them really.

Good luck with your move!

Take care!

Karen

Laura,

You will definitely find a place cheaper than 115.00/mo.  I work out at Lifestyles as well.  It is definitely the best gym in town.  Not as many meatheads throwing weights around and while it is crowded at peak hours, I still recommend it.  Latest equipment and it's BIG with many classes.

Best,

really, I have a lifestyles very close to where I live so that would be easy.  Cost isn't really an issue, I pay $115/month now so I am sure it would be less than that.  Thanks for that recommendation, I'll have to check it out when I get there, I think I get a student rate too.

you must be wondering, Hmm. is Melanie so good with numbers that she
can't get her letters right?! Well, no. It is that Deirdre (Dee, Dee
Dee) was typing on Melanie's computer and she me) was the mispeller.
