Thanks Gary. It was so weird how thing went for the night. I am still
trying to get the sugar levels to stay stable. I hate having to see the
doctor but may have to go soon if I don't get everything back to stable
again.

Carl,

I'm sorry to hear about the reaction to the beer. Your condition can be very
tough to balance at times, last night seemed to be one of them. Forget it
and go on. Last night our bottom guy (in the 190's) fluffed a 6-10, we lost
the only game we had a chance at.

We smiled, and said wait till next week!

Sounds like you guys had a horrible night.

I hope you do better next week.

Gary

I don't know how we managed it, but we're in first place!! The Execs. My

That's the largest league I've ever been on. 1st place in mixed
doubles is $1000 per person. Even the Mystery games are over $350.
If you do very well in the 2nd game and sweep doubles, you can easily
walk out with $4000. I need to figure out how to get that good...

I just thought I would throw out a little bit o' good ol' team bowling. The
last 3 weeks of bowling on the Monday night men's league, our team has taken
12 of 12 points. It isn't so much the point sthat we are getting, it is more
the games that are getting them for us. To start this win streak, our set-up
man (4th position) on this 5 member team shot 300/700. Last week, I shot
300/700 in the lead off position. Then last night, our middle man shot
290/300/700 for a total of 24 in a row. To have 3 of 5 guys shoot 300 on the
same team in back to back weeks, WOW what bowling. I can only hope that we
can win the first half so all this bowling won't go to waste.

I always start out slow but I chalk it up to being on the football field early
in the evening then off to bowl league. Now football season is winding down and
my average will go up.
There's a lot to be said about how your body reacts to standing out in the cold
in an open field for 2 hours before bowling.

Hi Coach,
As a former level 1 InstructorI wanted to chime in on your feeling
with the level 1 class now being done on line.
1. As an instructor we made $15.00 per student we had in our classes.
I myself enjoyed teaching the classes  and would have done it for nothing.
What i did was I gave the money I made from teaching the classes to the
scholarship
fund in the youth travel league in which i am a coach.
2. I agree with you that you lose that personal touch with an instructor and
fellow classmates
who you can bounce ideas off of. on line you just sit at the computer
read and take a test, boreing!
If I hear of someone in the center where i coach is going to take the online
cours.
I will go the center with them and go over the course and the onlane drills
so that they can feel more at ease when they take the test. i do not charge them
anything for this service
because if they can take the course and pass the test then I will have
some help coaching in our youth leages.

It may be late to sound off on this but here it is.

I think it is a dorp in the quality of treaning of coaches to do the classes
online now. The "Level 1" class at the local center was a great move as it took
us to the lane for a hands on section throught out the class. In the section of
the class question came up that would not have if it was online. What one did
bot think of the other did.

What is the feeling of the group on the classes online?

Do I do the next level online or find a class at a center?

Just dot think I will get as much out of it online.

Wow, 60 teams. I couldn't even imagine that many teams. Our house only has 24
lanes. LOL

Leagues are typically 12 teams. Some have more, some have less, but only by a
couple. I think our biggest league is 16 teams.

Another Monday where I think I have a pretty good groove and then it just goes
away.

226 on the first game. No spares, all strikes and a few opens.

Got a new plastic ball for spares and didn't practice at all with it, so I was
spending time trying to figure it out and get comfortable with it. It goes
straight. Straight as an arrow, just like it should. My old spare ball was a
urethane ball and it would hook slightly. So I do have a learning curve with
this ball.

Second game was 150 something. One strike, few opens, spares.

Last game was a 190 something. Almost all spares. By this time I had figured
out the plastic ball for everything on the right. Used my primary ball to pick
up spares on the left.

Left lane was dryer than the other and both lanes dried out really quick. I
moved inside to try and find some oil, but there wasn't much there either.

As a former Level 1 instructor, I do not like the classes being online. The
hands on and interaction is taken away. I do understand the reasons why the
classes are online. There has been major changes at USBC Coaching in the last
few years. The personel changes that have been made have brought a change in
philosphy. Bob Maki, Cary Pon and group tried bringing coaching to the masses.
The new group has a different goal. I believe David Garber and his staff want
to change the quality of upper coaching levels and keep those that are Bronze
and above at a higher level. Level 1 coaching suprisingly is about 50% bowling.
The class is more about safety and orientation than anything. The Level 1
classes are do not have the bowling content that many bowlers demand. Examples
would be what you would get in Bronze and Silver. The Level 1 is aimed at
teaching beginning bowlers and youth. Many serious bowlers are not interested
it doing that and traveling 50 miles. It may sound selfish but many future
coaches start coaching to improve their games. So someone in Idaho that wants
Level 1 to be a youth coordinator would have a hard time getting the knowledge
without it being online.

with a 187- 594 for the three. Only missed one spare, I picked off the 7 from a
4-7. In practice, I'd be thrilled to do that...over and over but in a league

I got to the center late, so I got *one* practice ball(brooklyn
strike). I tried the 'inside' line again last night. It seems that I
wasn't really paying attention to where I was standing and what target
I hit, so it took me a few frames to actually KNOW what I was doing.
First game, I had a six-bagger(4 brooklyns) and two opens for 227.
Missed the bucket BADLY. Second game, 236 clean. Third game, I came
up high the last 3 times on the left lane. Left a 3-10(spare), and
3-6-10 twice. 236 clean. For those counting at home, that's a 699
series(augh!). AND, we got swept!
But, I tied for 4th place in 2nd game mixed doubles(my partner had a
255, and she got about 40 pins hcp). After giving 'gappers' to my
teammates, I walked out with about $260. Well, it's a START.<g>

I don't know of ANY scratch leagues around here, although I'm sure
there MUST be one somewhere...

Not too many of them around here, I suggested a classic league as they were
called in Mercer NJ where it was scratch head to head and handicap for total
wood
I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that
these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together
is certain death.

Dealing with this frustration is actually pretty easy; quit bowling in handicap
leagues and tournaments and participate in scratch leagues and events only.

Hi everyone,

Rushed this morning. Last night was odd. Started great, had a nice line to the
pocket. Lost it by the second ball in the 10th... a 5-6, missed it.

Next game couldn't get the ball to move. I still had no opens, a clean game,
185.

Third game changed to my Storm (was using the fury) did a little better but the
ball just floated on the oil...especially the left lame. I had one strike on it
in 2 games. Right lane, no problamo, man, had more strikes than not. Ended up
with a 187- 594 for the three. Only missed one spare, I picked off the 7 from a
4-7. In practice, I'd be thrilled to do that...over and over but in a league
where we needed the wood...NEVER. Oh well, I felt great, thumb felt
excellent...with the taping of the thumb hole...so well, that I could REALLY
read the lanes, more than I've ever been before.

Boy, I wish I had my Hammer (the new ball that actually hooks on oil) with me
last night. I think I will have to get a locker for it and leave it at the
Monday league house.

Carl,

I'm sorry to hear about the reaction to the beer. Your condition can be very
tough to balance at times, last night seemed to be one of them. Forget it and go
on. Last night our bottom guy (in the 190's) fluffed a 6-10, we lost the only
game we had a chance at.

We smiled, and said wait till next week!

Sounds like you guys had a horrible night.

I hope you do better next week.

Very strange evening of bowling. During practice felt great and the pins
were falling. Started off the first game good then whiffed a 10 pin and
then everything went downhill from there. The next frame left a 7 10 split
followed by an 8 10 split. Picked up a few spares then two more 8 10 splits
Our team captain who just came back from a ten day cruise was doing ok and
then all of a sudden her voice got slurred and she could not stand without
falling. She could not finish the game. We used an absent score for the
second game but the team was rattled and could not pick up any marks. The
next game I started off with a strike then two more splits. Changed balls
and strung some strikes for a 190 game. The captain after taking some meds
decided to bowl the last game against our advice and shot a 62, she carries
a 114 average.. Now it gets stranger. I have diabetes and the only alcohol
I have is two beers when I bowl. This normally spikes my sugar level a bit
but never caused a problem. I started feeling lightheaded and thought I was
going to get sick. I started missing easy spares and then got some more
splits. In retrospect I should not have tried to bowl the last game. It
turns out my sugar level had dropped not spiked and I should have had a
candy bar and that would have brought my level back up. I never thought the
sugar level would drop after having two beers. Ended up with a 497 series
and we only took 2 of 8. Another strange thing is the guy on the team who
throws a lot of gutter balls and gets poor pin count on marks did real well.
I feel bad that we wasted his good fortune. Sure am hoping this set of
circumstances does not happen again. I hope everyone else had a better
   night of bowling.

   Carl

Tony,

I would love to but there are NONE of them in our area. We have two good men's
leagues both are handicap. We don't seem to have those problems here of the
sandbaggers.
