Hi Bowlers,
I came back from a brainstem stroke in 2001 after
only 3 months of therapy. My main goal at the rehab
hospital was to return to bowling and they had me'
rolling a beach ball at some two foot tall pins and
falling all over the place <g>. Well, I carried a 178
average before the stroke and when I cam back to
league bowling six months later was rollin a 122. I
rolled ffor a good five years with the idea that I was
a 178 bowler in a slump due to that damn stroke. It
really got me frustrated and depressed. A year or
two ago, I realized that I wasn't now a 178 bowler
and that the 135-138 I had been carrying for the
past five years WAS my average, duh. They don't
call the averages for nuthing. I'm much happier now
just to be bowling and even though, like last week, I
have a 202 followed by a 104, am lucky to be bowling
at all. Much nicer with the pressure of frustration off.
So, people, accepting your average makes those days
when all the planets line up right and no matter where
you lay it down it sucks into the pocket just that much
sweeter. This year I have had three 200+ games and
two 500 series, which is the first time I had a 500+
since my stroke. Keep the faith, bowl with bumpers
if you have to, have fun.
