It sounds like there will be some visitors from the East coming out
tomorrow to experience the Quake. I plan on joining up with them to
hopefully wrest the #1 tag from our illustrious state coordinator.
Llama tags will be with me for anyone who still needs one or hasn't
received theirs yet for whatever reason.
Depending on the temperature, I may be working from 8-10. Most likely
on the 16A sleeve and possibly the sleeve for the practice basket at
the bottom of the hill. As always, there are plenty of other tasks
that can be worked on also. Please join me if you can make it out.

What a weekend! The inaugural Whispering Falls Freeze ice bowl went
off without a hitch. Icy conditions in the morning, but a warm lunch
and warmer weather brought out the mud for the second round.
First, I want to thank everybody that came out, without you it
wouldn't have happened. We had a lot of Falls first-timers, by my
count almost half the field. I hope she was gentle.
Second, thank you to everybody that had a hand in making this event
what it was. I/we couldn't have done it without you.

Please send them to me again.

To my knowledge, there are two groups heading out tomorrow. I think one
is leaving from Creekside (OD driving?) and others are meeting at Pauls
(Pauls vehicle) . I think both vehicles were fairly full, but you'd
need to check with drivers to be sure.

You can only have fun helping other people have fun if you're having
fun doing it. :) Don't ever let the money get in the way of the fun.
You say "running the club like a business" as if its a bad thing. Its
not. Running the club like a business takes the emotional decisions out
of the equation. You simply plug in the numbers at the end of the day
and put the $$$ in the right columns. Generous payouts and extra
amenities are great, but it's not why we play, and its certainly not
anyone's responsibility to provide them. Paul and Gerry have the
process down and Im sure they'd be more than happy to share it. Just
remember, we all play for the same reasons and we're all in this thing
together.

I remember when disc golf was just going out with a group of friends or even meeting up with people I didn't know and throwing DISC GOLF. Hell, I even had fun when we just went out to clear what would be some incredible holes.... Now it seems it is more of a "business" and people tracking how many hours individuals worked or didn't work on courses and actually having contempt for those who don't spend as many hours working as others. Having said that......
I realize the position WE (the few people who have truly dedicated our lives and free time to developing and promoting the sport and building courses, none more than Paul and Jeff) are in and must take on the business side of things. The Crawdads have very little money to speak of, in fact what we do have will all be exhausted on our first sanctioned event, The Crawdad Cooker. Between Jeff and I we have spent so much money out of pocket on our events, from beer, prizes, shirts, trophies, discs and other things that we both could have put a healthy dent in our mortgages..... maybe we have gotten to aggressive with the Creekside events and trying to do to much to soon, but we have both been willing to put forth these costs, not to take away from the ODs and the Pauls who always come up with CTP prizes and what not, because we LOVE the sport and we LOVE our course. I personally and whole-heartily believe that the Llamas are my Crawdads' big brother and I gladly will adjust schedules based on what the Llamas want to do, in fact, I think switching up days once or twice a year is beneficial to the GROUP as some days simply work better for others and switching them around a couple times a year will allow them to come out when it suits their personal lives.
Now, to imply the Crawdads are not taking the necessary steps to fulfill club obligations in IMPO is unwarranted.... Jeff and I discussed just tonight about getting the bank account, but what purpose would it serve to open an account with $00.00? The Cooker, which is to take place in just four months will use 100% of the "club" funds and probably still require Jeff and I to come out of pocket on some things. I will admit, I am naive about the whole tax id thing and not sure what it is or what purpose it serves and would certainly welcome any explanations and guidance around it.
I am extremely proud to be a small part of two great clubs and even though some of these discussions may become heated at times and some people may get pissed off at one another's replies....... how great is it that what we are debating is in the interest of growing DG in our region. To think, when Tyler and Shaun are our age they may be having these same discussions with PDGA, Nike, Reebok and NBC / CBS officials...... then all of this stupid little shit will have been well worth it....... IMPO.
Nothing but love for ALL my disc golf brethren....
May the tree, wind and creek gods be with you
Matt

Paul Wojcik <discgolpher@...> wrote:
Jeff Ross is right. With the agreements between the BWCC and DCNR, it
is beneficial to keep things separate. Also, Tax ID numbers and bank
accounts have already been established for BWCC. This should provide
an example to the Creekside Crawdads who've yet to take such steps.
C'mon peeps, why bring this up now? I mean, we just got our new tags
for 2008 for each club and now the monkeywrench? I know we didn't set
out to upset Mr. Manatt by polling the clubmembers as to which day tags
should be. (Sorry for any grief Crawdaddy) Perhaps we should just set
our days and times without consulting anyone and y'all can just deal
with it. :(
It seems to me that this is precisely how the clubs ARE ALREADY
cooperating and promoting the growth of the sport - by trying to
accomodate each other's schedules, etc.
As far as I know, PA States may be coming our way soon enough
anyway. And furthermore, until the Crawdads get their BUSINESS side of
the club ironed out, the BWCC must stand alone IMPO. I have no
personal interest in taking over the accounting and taxes and all that
SHOULD BE involved with a club of this nature for another club that has
yet to tackle such chores on its own. No disrespect intended, just
some cautious realism.

Jeff,

I had a 5 on hole #10 because I hit a tree on my drive and it kicked
me out onto the walking path. My second shot I threw a hammer throw
that got knocked down and I was just at the top of the hill. My third
shot was 30 ft away, but I missed my first putt....I had a 59 and I
have the correct tag #14.

Thank you Mr. Paul. I think a start would be a tax ID number and a designated bank account.

Correction.

Lynn had a 59.

See corrected tag results below.

=====================

Five snow golfers played for tags last evening. It was a winter
wonderland during a spectacular snowfall. Lynn Baker bought his new tag for the
year taking us to 20 tag members.

The results of the snow tag round were:

Name - Tag - Score - Tag

Craig Beam #6 - 56 - #6
Paul Wojcik #7 - 59 - #7
Lynn Baker #20 - 59 - #14
Bob Eberly #15 - 63 - #15
Jeff Ross #14 - 67 - #20

Put our clubs and maybe some other local clubs, say a 50 - 100 mile radius under one umbrella, call it the Central PA Disc Golf Association or something.... but yes, leave the clubs as their own separate entities.... perhaps, if this is something the masses agreed upon the LUNG could spearhead.

IMPO, the Llamas remain the Big Brother Club of the area and I will gladly alter the day the Crawdads meet for tags as it will continue to promote a higher turnout at the creek, although looking at the vote results thus far, it looks like things will remain as they are now with Llama tags on Sunday and Crawdad tags on Saturday.... ...

All the others that have helped to create two distinctly different courses get to enjoy the visions that have become the smaller more open Creekside and the champion caliber QC. I just love to play. Period. So lets just meet somewhere, shut up, and throw dammit!

Sunday morning tags would be on the QC course. People were excited
about the idea that people would have a choice of a couple of
different options on the same day at Pinchot. You could play tags or
with the people who are playing tags on the QC side or you could play
in the ladder series on the BW side.

Just think how far things will have come when you can make up your
mind on the drive down (or up) 177 as to which course to play on and
know that you will have some people to play with .... woo hoo. This
will be great opportunity to grow the game to new players.

because we have matches at Creekside on Saturdays, which was switched
from Sundays to accommodate more players being available to play both
courses. Depending on how the vote goes, I will switch Creekside's
days again, after a democratic poll by the membership, of course. QC
was still in its infancy when the dates were changed so that many
hands would make the load light and still have fun playing. Paul has
been a superman when it came to the designing and the building of
QC . I applaud all who have assisted, some more than others, in his
endeavors. Ken L. has done some good things with the rec side,
namely the Keystone State Games and his fund-raising event, Iron Man.
