I plan on being present for the start of the WFL round and then
working on the hard course for the rest of the day. I'm hoping to see
some volunteers after the round and a bite to eat - around 12:30. :)
I ran into some old high school friends at the bar on friday.
they couldnt stop talking about disk golf, and asked me if i knew
about "The Pinchot Park Project"
i played dumb, and asked them what they heard.
they said that "they are building a course across the lake, and it's
going to be hard"
haha..
my training is paying off....i aced hole 4 today on the rec course and
impressed the hell out of some locals.
I should get out of work early today. Hence, I may be able to come
play a round if I get out early enough. I will give a call and see if
you are playing when I get out. Later!

As I posted a while back. I would contact the local township and ask
who it is that you should be talking to in regards to Kline's Run.
There is info and help on PDGA's site for people who are trying to
get new courses installed....I would look there.

Well, Thursday evening at the "after" party, the first of two
drawings was held to see which of the first nine basket sponsors
would receive a free hot air balloon ride for two. Excitement
filled the room as one by one, all those in attendance as witnesses
were eliminated. :(
The elimination format continued until.................... Farinelli
Construction, Inc. (sponsor of hole #7) was the only name left. The
certificate was presented to Don Farinelli at the company Christmas
Party on Friday.
All those sponsors from the front nine will also be entered into the
second drawing (Spring?), so they have another chance to win.
Hot Air Balloon ride or not, all the hole sponsors are deserving of
recognition here for their generosity and foresight. The new course
will provide a much-needed venue for the developing skills of the
discgolf community here in Central PA.
A huge Fighting Llama THANK YOU goes out to:
Lynn Baker (hole #8)
Jim Warren (hole #4)
Craig Beam (hole #6)
Dave Brown (hole #3)
Bob Eberly & Eric Brennan (hole #9)
Gerald Ford and George Ginter (hole #2)
Paul & John Wojcik (hole #1)
Farinelli Construction, Inc. (hole #7)
and last but not least, the BWCC. (hole #5)
Mine is 4512

Hi,Don Dillon,
I haven't played much DG recently due to my personal agenda keeping me away. I
depend on posts on the board to keep me abreast of current activities at the
courses close by. The last thing I heard about the new tops is that Ken was
still awaiting their arrival. The way I find out they arrived is a nasty note
from you about lack of appreciation. I haven't seen them yet. Yes, I also helped
pay for the costs and was interested that activity going forward.
Thanks, Ken, for all your efforts of acquiring and installing the new tops. A
friendly post announcing their arrival may have led to some of us offering help
to install them. I could have been emailed or telephoned, also.
I don't consume my time with thoughts of who won't help or when players don't
help or say 'thank you'. Please don't be bitter about players helping to develop
the new course at Pinchot. I remember you attending the public meeting defending
the need for such a course in this area. It's taking great time and effort to
construct the course. When it's finished, both courses will compliment each
other, allowing players of all playing levels to entertain themselves with the
game within the same park.
It seems you have been doing a lot of great things toward promoting the sport,
lately. I'd like to hear about these activities. Maybe Jan 7 could be a good
time for some stories. I apologize for not having the time to call and stop by
for a face-to-face. Life has thrown some major twists my way, lately. I depend
on time spent on the courses playing to catch up on what players are doing with
their personal lives.
Sincerely,
Bob Eberly

Subject: [BoulderWoods] Lack of Expressed Appreciation
I do not understand the lack of expressed appreciation for the
efforts of Ken Lemkilde in maintaining the recreational course that
so many players consistently use to improve their skills? The most
recent occasion was the replacement of 9 baskets tops that resulted
in only one posting from a frequent player who personally and
publicly acknowledged appreciation for his efforts. Ken's efforts
were not just the physical effort of replacing the basket tops, but
included prolonged successful communications with the manufacturer.
There were several delays and uncertainties. It was accomplished,
many players enjoyed the new basket tops but only one player took the
effort to recognize Ken for his efforts!! During the past year, there
have been several improvements to the course that so many players
use. How many players have helped make those improvements or have
publicly appreciated and recognized those efforts? How many players
played past Ken while he was working on the course and were not
thoughtful enough to thank him for his efforts to improve their play?
There seems to be no reluctance to post personal communications on
the Yahoo web site that range from information to just plain chatter
between individuals. There are posting encouraging players to help
build the new course, recognition of the contributors to the new
course, appeals to help finance or work on the new course, but a
complete absence of maintaining the course that is continually used
by all players. Is the apparent animosity between personalities so
great that the other players cannot rise to common understanding,
expression of appreciation and support of the course they play on? I
realized that volunteer organizations general involve 10% givers and
90% takers, the doers and the takers! Surely, disc golf players that
have played on other courses and enjoyed the efforts put forth to
establish those courses were thankful that somebody provided that
work for their enjoyment! Isn't it logical that those same players
should put forth an equal effort to establish and maintain their home
courses, not only for their personal play, but to reciprocate the
efforts of the other course players that may visit and to help
promote the sport to the general public. Without encouraging new
players from the general public, the sport will not grow. So. why is
there not recognition of what Ken has and is doing to maintain the
course that you use and enjoy to play and expand your sport? Are we
so self centered and bias as to not lend a hand or express our
appreciation for the efforts of others?
As always, I am available to PERSONALLY discuss my comments
but will not engage in a faceless email debate. Don Dillon

Everybody's asking, what's the movie about? Who's going to be in it?
Its about Disc Golf, yesterday, today and into the future. Its going to show the sport in a way no one's ever shown it. Something that'll make you want to go out and play and something you can bring your friends to to show them why you love the game so much. As for who's going to be in it, well, as many people as we can fit. So far we've only interviewed a few of the people that we want in the film, we've still got a long way to go. Some are in the trailer, but we still are going to get a lot more. Its not about a particular area or group, its about the whole sport and all the great people who are making it, "The fastest growing sport you never heard of."
Six golfers came out Thursday for the WFL. The randomly selected format for the evening was 3 Re-Putts. I was able to fend off Fudd, Gerry and Lynn by one stroke to earn the extra point. Congrats to Jay who was slamming chains from long distances and shot a personal best 63 last night. Unfortunately he didnt seem to understand the format as he only attempted one of this three re-putts (and didnt make it count). Nice Round Jay!
Craig - 2 Gerry - 1 Lynn - 1 Fudd - 1 Jeff R - 1 Jay - 1
James,
I may be down for a round this afternoon, but really don't feel like
playing in the rain. I'm going to play it by ear. I'm out of work at
noon, then a bunch of us are going to Hooters for lunch. I probably
could be out there by 2pm or so, weather permitting. give me a call
if you are going. Cell 703-244-6166
