Tues May 1 begins the "free clinic" season. Yes, there are various types of free
clinics...this just happens to be the series hosted by the Llamas, as needed,
beginning at 5:15 Tues nights, May 1 - Sept 30.

I've already been approached this week by some interested newbies, and the park
is on the marketing trail as well.

25 tagholders played BW last Tuesday and only young David Bellesfield managed to
set a new personal best for himself. Congratulations David!

The Acepot swelled to $150 for tonight's highly anticipated tagmatch. With an
$80-$90 expected payout tonight, I'm looking forward to that first FREE beverage
provided by the lucky person who cards a "1"!

Hello everyone, the new Disc Golf Monthly is available on youtube and is still on Comcast On Demand, recently they have switched where the program can be found.

It can be found by going to the "get local" menu, then click on "sports", and then "more sports". The April show is still on and will be there until May 2nd, so check it out.

Thanks for watching Disc Golf Monthly

I need some help. I have a chance to stat a new course, but I need some ideas
on the logistics of it. I have been told your group is a good recourse; also
you are an effective group. Any information will be helpful. I am excided
about it but I also need to know how to get focused on it.

Mike --- Where is the course? Exactly...

Do you have the approval already? 18-holes? How many acres?
State? County? City Park?
Are they going to provide any clearing/install/maintenance for it?

Do tell....

???

Innova and dga both have good references if you're looking at cost, and "pitching" the idea.  You'll find it under "course development"

Don't try to reinvent the wheel.  Try to gather local support.  Lean heavy on the business model of hole sponsorships, and advertising.

Then again...I haven't spearheaded a course from start to finish.

I've been trying to start a course in York for nearly 3 years.  In fact, I've a meeting Monday morning.

Ive a meeting with the red lion school district.  The athletic director and the superintendent on Monday.  They own the old red lion country club, an old 9 hole ball golf course, no longer in use.  They still maintain the course, but do nothing with it.  They are interested in disc golf and called me in.  I've already struck out twice.  Third times a charm!

No matter what, please consult someone who is experienced in proper course design principles. Please reference folks who have either previously designed courses and/or are very knowledgeable about course design principles.

Contrary to popular belief, just because someone has played disc golf for 2 years or 5 years or 10+ years, or just because someone has played a dozen different courses or 50 courses or 100+ courses, DOES NOT mean that he/she can design an interesting, challenging and safe layout which other folks will want to return to play again and again.

Hi all
I will try and cover very reply in this one. It is a township park near the
PA/MD line that has over 100 acres to work with. They are interested in the
course and I am working on the politics with the board. I need to find out a
much as I can to prepare for this. If I get a chance I will be up one Tuesday
night. I have to see how my work schedule works out. I can give more details
if you email at irail@.... I am still trying to get information from my
contact to the board. They have people willing to donate baskets already, but
that is all I know. I have not definite information at this point, but hope to
soon.

Sounds like a better start than most people get.  A maintained, unused golf course?

Yes, a maintained, unused golf course, and the school district is interested in disc golf, and already has it in their PE curriculum.  Even if they fund it or not, I just want them to say "yes" to the course.  Then I'll be hitting the pavement and message boards looking for sponsors.

If you want to check it out, go to google maps and check out "red lion country club"

Sounds like a better start than most people get.  A maintained, unused golf course?

Hi all
I will try and cover very reply in this one. It is a township park near the PA/MD line that has over 100 acres to work with. They are interested in the course and I am working on the politics with the board. I need to find out a much as I can to prepare for this. If I get a chance I will be up one Tuesday night. I have to see how my work schedule works out. I can give more details if you email at irail@.... I am still trying to get information from my contact to the board. They have people willing to donate baskets already, but that is all I know. I have not definite information at this point, but hope to soon.
Mike

Just a friendly reminder that all would-be "coaches" are encouraged to step in
if any newbies show up at TNT between now and Sept 25. I can't be there this
Tuesday, but all collateral marketing pieces have suggested a 5:15 gathering
time, for organizational purposes. Also, if possible, it's always a nice touch
if we try to match the demographics of the students with the teacher when
possible, for maximum learning and comfort. Submitting the following
student-type/teacher "cheat sheet" for reference:

Child Prodigys - Shawn
Ironmen - Tyler
Stone Masons - Frieda
Balloon Enthusiasts-Lynn
Brewers - Jaysus
Raider Fans - Jeff M
Gear Heads - OD
Golf Swingers - Beam
Optimists - JR
Disc Collectors - Gary
Woodworkers - YJ
Briar Buffs - Bill C
Flickers - Roz
Course Moms - Tammy
Future Stars-Bellesfield(s)
Wedding Planners - J.Bigley
Journalists - George G
Code Writers - G.Ford
Empty Nesters - Chas
Disc Designers - Earl
Embroiderers - Buttercup
Bootleggers - Greg Clark
Inked Up - Clay
Gliders - J.Gere
Soon to be Masters- Matt H
Sub Coordinators - John W
Cigar Smokers - tbd
Giant Fans - Richie
DB Coopers - Munns
Former Prom Kings - Paul
