Thanks Marianne, I am definitely adding these to my wishlist. I
can't run indoors, it drives me mad, and I have been known to slip
on the ice during my winter runs, so these will certainly come in
handy!
And I too am up for Saturday runs. But, I'm traveling a LOT in the
next 2mos - I don't think I could commit to a Saturday run until mid-
Feb. Keep me posted if it's a success!

I know a lot of you have been wondering about Wednesday night group
runs and if they're still officially on. I think it makes sense
to take it week by week and see what the weather and our bodies are up
to. A lot of us are (unfortunately) injured, the weather is
unpredictable (where's our 4" of the fluffy white stuff today), and the
daylight gets scarcer and scarcer. It would be wiser and safer to try
and coordinate runs/or snowshoeing adventures on the weekend.
That's not to say you can't still keep meeting, it just means unless
you confirm with people - please don't just show up on a Wednesday
night expecting a group of chix to run with.
That being said - I'm going into the fells this weekend for a walk/hike
(still can't run). It's a little over 5 miles, but technical - it
actually takes me longer to run this than my 6 mile loop. If
anyone is interested in meeting up with me and my dog around 8 AM
just give a shout.
I found this cool site where you just click on a map to lay out a
course (like for walking or biking) around town, and it automatically
calculates the distance. Maybe everyone else knows about this, but it
is new to me, and seems to work great! http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
Just put in the country, state & city...and then use the control to
zoom in to where you want to start. Click on "Start Recording" and
then just double click around your route to mark it off. If you make a
mistake just click on "Undo Last Point" and there is even a "Complete
there and Back Route" option so that if the route is a 1-way and back
instead of a loop, it will automatically calculate the distance back.
Thanks for the scoop!!!

Subject: [BostonLUNAchix] Hi, Everyone! :) I have some questions...
I am new too! My name is Janie. I started running May 2004 to train
to run the Dublin Marathon in October 2004. I got injured in Sept
2004, but still ran the marathon (or more like, ran the first half and
limped the 2nd half after reinjuring my knee ;). SO last winter I let
my knee heal and then barely ran at all this past
spring/summer/fall...I want to get back into it (I miss it!). I have a
few questions though:
I have never run in the winter and am wondering about what is best to
wear?
What about when it is snowy/icy--I am really worried about slipping on
the ice--are there place that are especially good (or bad) for winter
running? Do you have weekly runs if it has snowed recently?
Any other winter running tips?
I live in Waltham and work in Lexington, anyone else in these areas and
interested in running out here sometimes? (by the way I am really slow-
-especially now that I am so out of shape!)
Is there parking anyplace close to the MIT meeting place that doesn't
cost a fortune?

Hi all, just thought I'd pass the information on that Saucony Factory
Outlet is having a huge tent sale in Peabody Wed. Dec 7th - Sat. Dec.
10th. Wed - Thur its 9-7 and Sat 9-3. Its located at 13 Centennial
Drive, in Peabody (phone number 978-326-5279).
Shoes are going to be $20-$30 and all gear is about 50- 75% off.
Saucony pretty much exclusively carries Hind.
I'm planning on heading up either tomorrow afternoon or Thur. in hopes
of scoring a couple of $30 pairs of Hurricane 5's and some more winter
running gear! See you all soon.
Hi, Jenn!
Thanks for all of the useful information! I hope to get out to meet
you all very soon (not sure if I can make it this week, but maybe
next).

Hi Janie!
Welcome to the group.
First...we all do this for fun - so don't apologize for your pace, what shape
you're in, or
how far you run. Everyone here runs at different paces - and different
distances.
Secondly - welcome back to running. I'm sure it was hard to be patient while
you were
healing up. Everyone on this board has been injured at one time or
another...some of us
are currently on the mend - and know it's not easy to wait it out.
As for winter running wear - it really depends on your on thermostat. In the
winter I wear,
lined tights (there's a couple past messages about who likes which brand best),
a Marmot
driclimb wind shirt : http://www.marmot.com/products/product.php?
cat=cloth&subcat=13&style_id=G1046 (it's AWESOME) and a long sleeve capaline
shirt,
and of course a wool hat and mittens.
Running on the snow/ice can be tricky. I've heard of Yaktrax

We meet Wednesday nights - directions are on the message board under
"files"...also if this night doesn't work out for you - I know others
on the board meet at various times during the week and on the weekend -
so don't be shy give a shout if you're looking for a running mate on
another day.

Thanks Nicole, it was a great class. Some tough poses but that is what we all need. Was very impressed by the flexibility of some of the group. Me I still need to improve, but that was why I was there.
Nice turnout too, glad everyone enjoyed it.

Thanks to everyone that came last night, I hope you enjoyed it, and was able to get something out of it. I'm up for drinks anytime! Even though I can't make the Weds runs anymore, I can meet up with you all if that's what you decide - I teach Tues and Weds nights until 630p and am free after that. Also - I think I've said this before, but I too like to run in the mornings. I'm downtown, and typically run through the parks, (depending on what time and how light it is out) down the esplanade,
through Beacon Hill/Back Bay/South End/Downtown... Let me know if anyone is interested! Have a great weekend =)

Sorry I couldn't participate in the class last night - it looked like
an awesome space to have a yoga class. Was it? Or do you
think it's worth looking into a different space if we were to do
this again?
Oh and, I'm always up for a Sunday brunch with the Chix! There's
nothing better than a good Mimosa to wash down waffles with whip
cream....but night's *should* be good now for me - I can
hopefully work has settled down a bit for me.
Thanks to everyone that came last night, I hope you enjoyed it, and was able to get something out of it. I'm up for drinks anytime! Even though I can't make the Weds runs anymore, I can meet up with you all if that's what you decide - I
teach Tues and Weds nights until 630p and am free after that.

Thanks to everyone that came last night, I hope you enjoyed it, and

The Yoga Class was definately great last night. Thanks Nicole! I've
been away from Yoga for a few months now but I think last night was the
push I needed to start going again. My legs feel great today.
And I'm definately up for drinks and snacks do people want to do a post
run meet up again or go with another night all together?

I chickened out yesterday because of the weather and just ran on the
treadmill. And I most likely will miss yoga tonight because of work. I
am bummed! I hope you all have a blast and am looking forward to
seeing you next wednesday. It's been a while since I've made it out to
the River!
Take care,
Michelle
