Hi ya'll,

I'm a beginner runner and I really want to run the
Boston Marathon. I think having a marathon as a goal
will be great motivation to stay get and stay fit. I
also want to do it for personal reasons. Have any of
you run a marathon? Is anyone currently training for a
marathon? I've never done this before and I don't know
if running this spring would be a realistic goal if I
start training now. What do you think?

Leslie

Hey gals,

I'd be up for (re)starting Saturday morning runs in January. Keep me
posted. I can't do too early because I'll run into things. Who am I
kidding? I'll run into things anyhow.

Hello Chix,

The end of 2006 is upon us and what a great year it has been. We got to meet so many great women this year, at our weekly runs, clinics, races and other events. We truly enjoyed meeting you all, and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2007.

Our fundraising for the Breast Cancer Fund received alot of support in 2006, we held three fundraising events and raised a totel of $1912 for the cause.

Iron Girl - $572
Lucky Strike - $1000
Tufts 10K - $340

Each Team Luna Chix group all have to raise $1000 per year, with over 19 teams that is alot of fund for the Breast Cancer Fund. We will have an overall total of the amount the Team Luna Chix program raised during 2006 in January.

One of our Luna Chix too - Cynthia, did some outstanding fundraising for her 1st Marathon last time I checked it was $3700. Way to go - Cynthia.

http://www.firstgiving.com/churchwell

We would like to wish everyone all the best for Christmas and the New Year.

We look forward to seeing you at our events in 2007.

Happy Holidays,
Boston Luna Chix

Upcoming Events - Save the Date - March 12 or 13

LUNAFest

What is LUNAFest?
LUNAFEST is a national traveling festival of short films by...for...about women. LUNAFEST runs from October-March, in that time it is shown by more than 100 venues nationwide and is seen by over 20,000 viewers, each ticket sold raises money for Breast Cancer Fund and local nonprofit organizations.

LUNAFEST films are pulled from the top festivals across the nation including Tribeca, the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, and London International Film Festival. Topics of this year’s films range from quirky animation to touching documentaries.

I have run and mtn biked at Wompatuck...would love to get in a Sunday run there after the NY.  How do we go about getting runs together?  Does someone just name a place and time and then people meet up?  I am running the Fat Ass 50k the first weekend of January but after that I would love to start a weekly weekend run.

It’s never too early to start training for the Boston Marathon.
This year, John Hancock, the official sponsor of the Boston Marathon, is generously donating 5 Marathon numbers to Fenway Community Health. These numbers are made available through the company’s community support program.

We are honored to be designated as a beneficiary by John Hancock this year and have agreed to have each runner commit to a minimum fundraising goal of $3,000.  This money will support vital programs and services at Fenway.

In 2007, you can run for health - your own, Fenway’s and the community’s. If you are a runner who has had a successful experience fundraising through an athletic event, give us a call.

Let’s set our sights on spring!

Each year we wind down the Wednesday Night runs for the cold/dark
winter evenings.

We do host other activities in their place and you could keep an eye
out for upcoming events on our Calendar.

We encourage you all to use the forum to look for a running
buddy/partner to run with. It is alot of fun and also very motivating
to meet someone for a run. In the upcoming winter months sometimes
heading out in the cold seems daunting, but if you know you have
arranged to meet someone it can be that bit easier.

We have created a Database where members of this board can share
their information and look for a potential running buddy.

Only people who has signed up to the group will have access to this
information.

So if you are looking for company, add your information to the DB,
you are free to edit it or remove it at any time. You can put your
phone number online, or you may want to have someone initially
contact you by email directly and then share a phone number with
them, instead of posting it on this board.

Start planning to get through those lonely winter days and
evenings!!!!

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/BostonLUNAchix/database?
method=reportRows&tbl=2

There will be no group Wednesday Night Runs starting from tonight.

We had great turn-outs this year, and we all enjoyed meeting so many
of you.

All the best,
Emma

I have my running gear with me... it is a bit wet out there today but if others are on for running I would be happy to go along  - got a rain jacket with me.

FYI.... I am running very slow pace though right now trying to build myself back up.

Let us know if you are planning on coming along tonight.

Let us know what you find out, maybe they would let a bunch of us join up with them for their speed sessions. I too need to work on speed.

We did make inquiries to many local track facilities for hiring the use of a track for the winter months. A few were outside the price range of what would be reasonable and a few others had  no availability due to pre-existing commitments.

It would definately great to sharpen up speed over the winter months and get a break from running in the cold.

I'm considering this too...would be interested in what you decide.

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a group or somewhere that does speed work during the winter months?  I really need to increase my pace.

Thanks!
Kristi
