Hi,

Is anyone planning to/want to do some runs throughout the winter? I
ran all of last winter and for the most part it wasn't too bad. On
the other hand, last winter was a really mild one. I live in
Brookline, but often run after work (Longwood Medical Area) and can
meet anyone wherever. I'm not a morning person, so it's unlikely I'll
be doing any early morning runs. Get in touch if you're interested.

Thanks!

Anne

Each year we wind down the Wednesday Night runs for the cold/dark
winter evenings.

We do host other activities in their place and you could keep an eye
out for upcoming events on our Calendar.

We encourage you all to use the forum to look for a running
buddy/partner to run with. It is alot of fun and also very motivating
to meet someone for a run. In the upcoming winter months sometimes
heading out in the cold seems daunting, but if you know you have
arranged to meet someone it can be that bit easier.

We have created a Database where members of this board can share
their information and look for a potential running buddy.

Only people who has signed up to the group will have access to this
information.

So if you are looking for company, add your information to the DB,
you are free to edit it or remove it at any time. You can put your
phone number online, or you may want to have someone initially
contact you by email directly and then share a phone number with
them, instead of posting it on this board.

Start planning to get through those lonely winter days and
evenings!!!!

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/BostonLUNAchix/database?
method=reportRows&tbl=2

There will be no group Wednesday Night Runs starting from tonight.

We had great turn-outs this year, and we all enjoyed meeting so many
of you.

All the best,
Emma

I have my running gear with me... it is a bit wet out there today but if
others are on for running I would be happy to go along - got a rain jacket
with me.

FYI.... I am running very slow pace though right now trying to build myself
back up.

Let us know if you are planning on coming along tonight.

It is raining at a steady rate our there, if it keeps it up I might skip too. I have some cold like symptons this week and I think running the in cold and wet might not be good for me right now.

Heidi - let me know if you get this.

Like Katrina I will check the weather outside and then decide.

i'll ckeck email again at 6ish, but if its still like this, we probobly don't want to run. its not the kind of rain thats fun to run in, its the kind that could be dangerous. let me know what you think when you're about to leave work.

Let us know what you find out, maybe they would let a bunch of us join up with them for their speed sessions. I too need to work on speed.

We did make inquiries to many local track facilities for hiring the use of a track for the winter months. A few were outside the price range of what would be reasonable and a few others had  no availability due to pre-existing commitments.

It would definately great to sharpen up speed over the winter months and get a break from running in the cold.

Greetings, all...
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC) has been selected as an official charity of the 2007 Boston Marathon.  This is the first of our three year affiliation with the Boston Athletic Association and we are looking for runners who would like to help us raise money for our nationally recognized child abuse and neglect prevention programs through "Team Protect Our Kids" (T-POK).
About MSPCC
MSPCC is one of the oldest child welfare agencies in the United States.  Incorporated in April of 1878, MSPCC is a private, non-profit society dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights and well being of children and families.  Prevention (of child abuse) is the Society's middle name and focus of its service interventions.
In Massachusetts:
·         A child is reported abused or neglected every eight minutes.
  • A child is born into poverty every three hours.
  • A child dies before his or her first birthday every day.
For 128 years, MSPCC has consistently been at the forefront of child protection and child abuse prevention by providing effective direct services to children and families and through research and advocacy.  At MSPCC, we believe that every child is entitled to a safe and healthy start and we know the best way to provide that start is to reach out to families as soon as possible. Parenting can be a difficult job but effective parenting can be taught. Our programs work
MSPCC was a leader in the passage of the Commonwealth's child abuse reporting law and subsequent amendments.  In 2004, MSPCC released a policy position paper "Oral Health and the Commonwealth's Most Vulnerable Children:  A State of Decay," which highlights the significant and long-term health impacts of poor oral health and lack of access to dental care for poor Massachusetts children and children in foster care.  In April 2005, MSPCC released "18 and Out: Life After Foster Care in Massachusetts ," a public advocacy paper that describes the challenges faced by teenagers who 'age out' of state custody and makes recommendations to address these issues.  Finally, in 2006 MSPCC and Children's Hospital Boston are collaborating on an upcoming paper that will be the platform for a campaign to reform Children's Mental Health Services in Massachusetts .
About Team Protect Our Kids
Proceeds raised by "Team Protect Our Kids" ("T-POK") will be used to provide child abuse prevention, mental health treatment, early intervention, and child development services to more than 30,000 children and families throughout the Commonwealth.  April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and royal blue is its color.  Last year, MSPCC launched its "Paint the Town Blue" campaign to highlight this cause.  This year, by teaming with the BAA for the most recognizable event in Boston , we hope to bring much needed attention and support for a cause that is often ignored before it is too late.
We have 15 numbers and have selected 7 runners already...but need 8 more to meet our minimum goal of $45,000.  Members of Team Protect Our Kids are expected to be able to complete the Marathon in six hours or less and raise a minimum of $3,000.  We are also looking to increase the impact of our dollars raised by having qualified runners be part of our team (they are not obligated to any fundraising minimum) to help us raise awareness and funds for our much needed services.
For more information and to view our application please visit www.mspcc.org/metrobostonprof or call Tamara Belmonte , Development Officer at (617) 587-1505.

Hey Jill,

Great to hear from you - unfortunately I will not be making the trip to Chicago, I have had some bad luck with injuries, I have a groin and abuctor strain in my left leg which has bothered me for three weeks now, and still has not recovered then last week I managed to break a toe - nice or what.

So for some reason Chicago is not meant to be for me - I am disappointed, but I know there will be plenty of running ahead. I will be with you all in spirit - cheering you on.

Michelle is going to be running Chicago and a few other girls from the group.

Great cause by the way - Miles for Miracles program.

I cannot wait to hear how it goes, good luck and enjoy.

Hi All--
Just want to let everyone know the Hartford Marathon yesterday was awesome!  My official time is 4:23:28.

It was a beautiful day - very sunny, but brisk (I had on shorts and long sleeve shirt the whole way;) a great day for a first marathon!

(I didn't realize it, but Dean Karnazes who is doing 50 marathons in 50 days in 50 states ran the race too, so that is a fun piece of trivia.  He is in Boston today and he'll be with at least Emma and Michelle that I know of in Chicago in a few days.)

Thanks to all who have encouraged and supported me.  I can't believe its over now - the first one at least.  I'm sure I'll do another one one day.  I like the Tufts 10K motto of "Love, Sweat, and Cheers" because that is what it was for me.

Peace out.!   /Cynthia

Gail—how disappointing about your hand! That must have been some tumble. Good luck on recovery and your next race…

hi jan,  who are you running with for boston?  i was planning to run hartford this weekend, but i fell and broke 3 fingers during my last long run, and have been benched for nearly 3 weeks, and will miss the race.  big huge bummer!  i am now scurrying to get a charity number for boston instead.  i applied to dana farber, but i know the odds are long.  fingers crossed--at least on one hand!

good luck everyone who's running this fall!

I know most of you are getting ready for fall marathons. But, I'm
curious if anyone has qualified or been accepted to run for charity
for Boston in 2007? My team training doesn't start until December, but
I want to get started building a base ASAP! (This is my first
marathon.) I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one out there. : )

Good luck in all the fall marathons!!
