One of my students, Emma Jane Raftery, a very sweet and courageous little girl
was
diagnosed with FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) a rare, progressive,
and
devasting Kidney Disease.

Dear Business Owner:

Emma's Hope for a Cure is an organization that is raising funds to find a
cure for FSGS; Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis. FSGS is a rare kidney dis-
ease that destroys kidney function by attacking the glomeruli, the tiny units
within the kidney where blood is cleaned. This Fund has been established to
honor Emma Raftery, a courageous 4 year old little girl who is fighting
this awful
disease.
FSGS is a rare, progressive, and poorly understood disease. Given that
only 35-75,000 people, mostly children, are affected, research is severely
limited
and underfunded. The only treatment offered is a life filled with
Immunosuppres-
sive drugs, including chemotherapy. There is no known cure. Emma and children
like her deserve more than that, and YOU can help.
In Honor of Emma, Danny Ryan is running the Boston Marathon to raise
awareness and much needed funds for research to help find a cure for this
dis-
ease which causes kidney failure.
Emma's Hope For A Cure will hold it's first fundraiser on Saturday,
April
12th at Moseley's on the Charles in Dedham from 7pm-Midnight. Everyone is en-
couraged to attend to help us raise money to find a cure for FSGS , to
wish
Danny luck as he prepares to run the marathon, and honor Emma, our brave little
daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend.
