My wood came today for making cross stick booms. This is a few sheets
of 2.5mm 5 ply Finland birch. I am using this with my 4th and 5th
graders this year as well as selling some myself. In the past I have
used paint sticks but this will be way better quality.
I cut some into strips for making the booms tonight. The strips are
11 inches long. I have found that I can get 120 boomerangs out of
each sheet of 61 X 61 inch wood. One sheet will just do my students
this year. So cool!!! If you have not tried the 2.5 mm 5 ply for
short range cross sticks I can highly recommend it.

Rusty,
Glad you are doing better. I too have A-fib, but mine is (for now)
easily controlled with medication. It does not slow me down (still
riding my bike to work everyday).
I agree, most people can live a long time with A-Fib; it's not a death sentence. I had it three times before; this is my forth. Still, I do notice I get much more tired, quicker, and can tell the difference right away. At 80, I'll not complain too much. I still think that, "Every day is a good day when you don't wake up dead!"
The 2.5 mm 5 ply booms sound interesting, what are the dimensions, airfoils, finishes? For years, I made 10 inch cross sticks by buying 1" x 6" straight grained clear pine, cutting into 10" lengths, rounding the top and bottom cross cut corners and then slicing into 1/16" thick slices to yield 1/16" thick blades 10" long and 3/4" chord. Sanding between a urethene skate wheel and a 4" diameter x 8" long pneumatic drum made the finished thickness about 1 mm (or about 0.04 inches). Painted tips and a hot glue gun, and wood slats clamped and glued in a custom designed clamping jig both assembled AND added dihedral to the finished boomerangs. With my set-up, I could make 150-200 per day! Most of the time, the wood was free cutoffs from other construction jobs.
