Re: Finnish Vs. Baltic - or - battle of the birch '08

Good explanation Kendall!

Couldn't have said it better. With the high cost and availability
issues of Finland aircraft grade birch I'm only using it for one of my
3 rangs. Even the quality of aircraft birch seems to have gone down some.

Baltic birch is sometimes known as Russian Birch. Last time I was
at Anderson's he had some 5mm 5-ply FINLAND. It's not in his catalog
but he had a stack of it. It's nice and strong but the piece I cut had
a couple of long narrow voids running through it so all the blanks had
pinholes in one of the inner plys. Any idea how to fill that quickly
and sufficiently? I'm thinking I'll use birch sawdust and white glue
as Dr. Fred once suggested. The holes are very small but noticeable.
Otherwise it's very nice wood.

Cheers!

John V.

About the voids in the plywood, I sometime have the same issue with marine stuff. I just use some wood filler (DAP Wood Patch) with a putty knife, let dry and...
