Hi Pat,
I just wanted to say "thanks" for starting this group, which, until
BoomTalk ended, I didn't even know it existed, didn't know to look for
it. Anyway, I've posted some nice photos of a few "Classic" 1970-90's
rangs, along with one of a Siegfried Stiller Horse Rang I traded to
Jeff Lewry for 3 rangs in return: A 1981 Gerhards S/L Omega, an
original lefty Cosimo 7 by Peter Ruhf, and a 16 inch Lewry Contest Hook
(another lefty)...perhaps the best trade I ever made...I kinda had Jeff
on the ropes...the Horse was for his daughter Naomi's birthday, and he
wanted it reeeaaaal bad....

I don't get why he didn't just offer it up for someon to take over, if he simply wanted out of it. I just don't understand that.

Hey Dave,

The name BoomerangTalk is probably up for grabs.  Certainly BoomerantTalk II or Son of BoomerangTalk is available.  Anyone who wants to can certainly start up another group and probably get at least half the membership back without even trying very hard.

David and John,

Thanks for starting up your groups and feel free to post about them here.  I don’t have any desire to run a busy group, but I opened this one up so that I won’t have to approve new members for a while.  This just seemed like a convenient place to contact old BT members because I don’t have their emails.

Bruce, nice to hear from you.

Y’all take care,

Pat

Hi Pat and Everyone,

I'm very upset over the loss of Boomerang Talk and Dave website
bvdrangs.com These are both tremendous losses to the world wide
boomerang community. Pat, I think it's quite appropriate that BT
members migrate to your group. David F., I had no knowledge of your
group beginnerboomerangs101. I'll join shortly. I think that will be a
great list for beginners to go and I'm enthusiastic about beginners
having somewhere to converge. This is basically the reason why Dave
Hendricks broke away from ranglist. To give beginners a place to go
without feeling intimated by know-it-all experienced boomers.

I'm glad Dave mentioned my google group
http://groups.google.com/group/realworkingboomerangs in his final BT
post and wrote him personally to thank him. I'm sorry I didn't get a
chance to Invite you all from there. I prefer the google system to the
Yahoo system but I see that I have one of the very few boomerang
forums on google, while Yahoo has a good number of boom groups of
which I'm a member of many.

I started Realworkingboomerangs when I first heard of Google
Groups because I wanted to see what kind of features they had there.
As of this writing, no one new has joined my group and the last post
was made on March 17th by me. Currently there are 11 members. It's
just another option among the now numerous groups available. I wanted
to give you guys a very simple rundown on what it's about and what to
expect. It's an adult site that will be very loosely moderated. I
chose adult status because most all of us are responsible adults who
don't need babysitting.

I'm not a big fan of moderating and screening emails. People
express their selves differently and I don't like the way rules have
been imposed on me on other forums in the past. If someone on my list
appears (in my opinion) to be offensive, I'll speak to them once and
if we can't arrive at a peaceful agreement that suits me, they'll have
to take their personality elsewhere. It's my intention for
realworkingboomerangs to run itself. Just a place for good time
boomerangers to converge and for beginners to our hobby to find out
what they may want to know. If problems escalate to the level that
destroyed Boom Talk, I'll shut down my group too.

So I humbly invite you all into realworking boomerangs. Just
bear in mind that it's a free service composed of you the member. You
will make the group what it is and no one will be obligated to another
to furnish a tailor made experience.

     Cheers!

        John V.

 good idea.

FYI: Sam and I started a group a while back.  beginnersboomerangs101 in the yahoo system:

as well as boomerangswap:

maybe we can use the first one for some good old boomerang chat, sharing, and learning.

I  an no pro at  boomerangs and that is why we started beginnersboomerang101.  maybe some of the seasoned pros will join us and help ourselves and new members and newbies to the finer points, the funny stories, and such related to boomerangs.

we are always looking  for links, photos, and such.

I hope you will help me get the word out.

I  have to  tell ya up front.  I  and Sam will not  deal  with  what the other groups had to  deal with.  I  guess I am not  the Christian as  most......I have no  problem deleting a bad apple.

Wow,

Sounds like you had quite a time over there! Imagine...going to Australia and teaching Australians how to throw boomerangs...amazing!

Yeah, I read on their website that those hooks would go 90-100M, but I think maybe that's either 'sales hype', or you'd have to be Nolan Ryan or John Elway to throw one. I just love the looks of them, and may still order one from him yet.

I'm very happy for you that you got to go over there and do all that. I know it's long been a desire of yours.

Australia didn't utilize boomerangs. It is recognized as the

Nita said that I really hadn't come home yet even tho I was their

Sent home about 5 boxes of stuff including a number of books about
aboriginal Australia. Did a lot of hiking, lost a few pounds, ate some
great food and packed as much in my head as I could. This January I am
putting a display in the Lake Jackson library for the month and on the
20 of January will be utilizing their conference room to give a talk
about my trip. It is entitled "Trapped in Arnhemland". And that's a

problem is this picture is from a magazine article in the 50's!

Pat,
I talked to a lot of people about Billy Boomerang. Spent most of
three days chasing down leads and interviewing. There are some very
colorful individuals who's own story is quite interesting. I sent
Richard Harrison (Boomerang Man) all the info. I think he is going
to put something together on his site. If he doesn't I will post.

I found this googling billy boomerang
  http://www.sandyfeet.com/columns/ask4.97.html

Dear Sandy,

When I was a teenager growing up in the RGV (late 1960's early
1970's), there was a guy that used to hang out near the jetty's
parking lot and throw a boomerang. It seemed like he was always there.
We called him "Boomerang Billy." Is he still hanging around and
throwing that boomerang?

Thanks,

Long-lost Valley Guy

Greetings, LLValley Guy,

The gentleman to whom you are referring was actually known as Billy
Boomerang - in addition to designing and throwing boomerangs he
created some lovely shark's tooth jewelry. He was a very... unusual
character. He died from cancer several years ago, though his legend
lives on.

The name confusion probably springs from the fact that there is a bar
at the Surf Motel named "Boomerang Billy's." If I am not mistaken,
they have some of his boomerangs on display there but otherwise have
no connection with the man or the legend.

Hey Bob,

I saw the photos and was very curious what you learned about Billy.
Thanks for sharing,

My wife, Nita and I made a trip to South Padre Island this past May
and did some investigating into the legend of Billy Boomerang. I have
added some photos taken during my search.

Kendall,

Do you have no grass or trees where you live, Dude? That thing would
be lost in no time around here! Looks cool, though!

Of course I know it's just for fun....

Hey, how about the flouro-color camo that hunters wear? Hmmm....my
next LD might get that scheme on it!
