Contrary to some of the rumors floating aroung out
there, there was no special law passed just for Tanith
Belbin. The law in question, which affected a
pre-existing category of people, was changed so that
it would make more sense.
The people affected by this law included athletes,
scientists, actors, and other designated "aliens of
extraordinary ability." There was already a special
visa category set aside for such people, but the
change in the law applied the current rules, as of
2002, to those who entered that visa category prior to
2002.
If we are going to protest Belbin's new citizenship,
then we would also be obligated to protest the
citizenships of the other 100 or so people who also
received their citizenships as a result of the passage
of this bill.
Make sure you have all the facts before declaring an
injustice.
