Dodger closer Eric Gagne is having season ending back surgery. The Dodgers would be crazy to pick up his 12 Million option for next season and am more than certain they won't. Now has Eric pitched his last game for LA? What should the Dodgers do? I for one would like to see him come back at a much cheaper price, maybe a Nomar type contract with incentives.
Which makes me think that the Dodgers will be seeing the likes of him when the Dodgers play Oakland this month. Should be interesting. I saw that Antonio Perez is playing tonight. He is batting an anemic .034. How he still has a job in the majors is beyond me.

Jeff Kent has gone onto the DL with his ailing wrist and Joel Guzman is going to be getting the call up in his place. It will be nice to see what he can bring to the big club. Good luck to him!

I wondered why Eric Gagne was actived before yesterday's game even though we wasn't going to be available until Friday at home. Well, he had a little two game suspension he had to sit out so it was a great move since Gagne didn't have to go to Atlanta and is just in LA waiting.

I know that I would rather see the Dodgers call up Carrara instead of Carter. I think if Perez is traded, Kuo will be called up or if Hamulack is sent down Kuo will get the call then only because Kuo is a lefty. Gagne has been put back on the roster and Robles was sent down but I know Little wants two lefties in the pen and I think that's why Carrara hasn't been called up because he's a righty. I have to agree with you though, I wouldn't send down any of those guys for Carrara as much as I would like to see Gio back.

I also think if Perez is traded, Kuo might return or Miller called up. That being said, it's nice to have Carrara pitching well and being available in an emergency. :-)
So far since Giovanni Carrara signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers, he has been in Las Vegas and has thrown 11 innings allowing only 1 run. I would think he should be called up soon and
should have been called up instead of Lance Carter who was sussequently sent down when Matt Kemp was called up. I for one would like to see Gio back in LA.

At whose expense? With Gagne back, Robles was sent down, but
I believe as soon as Gagne proves himself, the Dodgers will return to
11 pitchers. Assuming Perez stays in the bull pen, the six relievers,
after Hamulak is sent down, will be Gagne, Saito, Baez, Broxton Beimel,
and Perez. Which of these would you want to be replaced by Carrara.
Even if they stay with seven relievers and want to replace Hamulak, I
would expect either Kuo to return or Greg Miller to be brought up
before Carrara. The latter two are the future, while Carrara is a
journeyman who will be 38 in a month.

I'm kind of suprised no one has mentioned this unless maybe no one knows. Pat Borders has decided to retire. He wasn't batting all that well and he is 43 years old. I just thought I would mention that. He knew he had no chance of coming to LA and the team basically signed him to help with Russell Martin but then of course Steve Yeager is also a coach there.
He has never won more than 14 games in a season. I believe he will get his 6th win for us today (he only had 7 all of last year). This could by far be the best season in his career as he was 14-10 in 2003 and was mostly a .500 pitcher the other seasons. I still don't think he was worth trading all we traded for him but again, one player's salary is a lot cheaper than three player's.
Outfielder Cody Ross was traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Florida Marlins for a player to be named later. I know that Ross just got off of the DL so hopefully the trade will give Cody more of a chance to play.

Yeah I can't remember who owns the Pirates but they got a new stadium not that long ago thinking fans would come out and see them but the bottom line is, if there is a crappy product on the field,. no one will be interested in seeing them, let alone paying money to see them.

I always said that I liked this trade. Bradley had to go.
Ethier has been great, but it is the hitting of Aybar that really makes
this a great trade. It appears that Aybar will be our second baseman
after Kent leaves, and he sure can hit. There was no place with the
Dodgers for Perez. At least he is getting a chance with Oakland. I
appears that our outfield in a year or two will be some combination of
Kemp, Guzman, Ethier and Repko and they may be around for a while.
Something to look forward to. Add Loney, Aybar, Martin, Billingsley and
Miller to the mix, and we should be a contender for years to come. And
there are other good prospects in the Dodgers' organization. :-)
I know that Zvi brought up not that long ago, the Nomar and
Choi debate so I will bring up the question of, what does everyone
think of the trade of Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez to the A's for
Andre Ethier? So many said that Colletti was taken for a ride by Billy
Beane. After this series, it certainly doesn't look that way now.
Milton is on the DL once again (quite injury prone lately) and Perez
would be better served going to AAA to play everyday since he is
hitting hardly a lick. Ethier was doing well with his call up to LA
and holding his own but what a series agains the Angels and then
management doesn't have to worry about verbal outbursts with teammates
and fans...how nice.

Lance Carter was called up today from AAA Las Vegas and Osoria was sent down to AAA. I wonder if Carter can pitch better now? I guess we will find out soon.

Mariano Rivera lost the game for the Yankees tonight against their city rival the Mets. Mariano has lost a few this season, I would like to say about four if I am correct and we all know how great he is, a Hall of Famer. I'm not comparing Baez to him at all, no one can be compared to Rivera except Gagne but I'm just saying it happens to the best of them and expect it to happen to Gagne too. They are human.

A team wins and a team loses. I say that because Baez who gets the blown save and the loss had help too by the error by Willy Aybar. I'm not souring on anyone at all. I like players if they do well or if they are in a slump and right now Baez is in a slump for some reason but I'm not going to sour on him just like I knew Bill Mueller was pressing at the plate because he was injured and went on the DL. It happens. It's a long season though and we will get them tomorrow. We can all say that the Dodgers would have won with Gagne on the mound and we can also say that the Dodgers could have won without the error. Again, a team wins and a team loses.

I was very saddened to hear about this. I know that Steve Howe had a lot of problems with drugs and drinking but to die so young it's very upsetting. I wrote to Steve years ago and sent the letter to his home in Montana and shocking to me, I got a response from him and not just an autograph but an actual letter. It mean't so much to me. Unfortunately I have a feeling it ended up in a box when I moved to Arizona and never got it back. I know that his son goes to school where I live in Santa Clarita. I don't know if Steve was living here too or if his son was with his Mother. I feel really bad for the family.
I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned the game Edwin Jackson had last night against the Texas Rangers. He was just called up from AAA for the Devil Rays. He pitched 7 innings, allowing three hits and five runs and struck out 7. He did walk six though, he was probably a bit nervous maybe and would explain the high amount of runs allowed. The team lost but Jackson didn't get the loss. I wonder if he will stay up with the team or will go back to Durham. I wish him well.

I decided to look on the Dodgers Web Site for Ticket Deals and I found a four pack, seats to four games during the week. There are four different ones to choose from. Anyway, the seats are in the reserved level but they are only $4.00 each seat! I ended up getting the plan with July 3rd and got three seats. That's not too bad considering what regular seats cost. I just thought I would pass that along...
Well Nomar Garciaparra now joins Kenny Lofton on the DL. I guess if the injuries had to happen I would want them now and not later. At least James Loney will get his chance.

I just came home for lunch and noticed scrolled across the bottom of the Mets Nationals Game that Nomar Garciaparra is not in the lineup today due to a muscle strain. I wonder if this just happened or has been bothering him the whole spring.

Former Dodger Catcher David Ross was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Cincinnati Reds. That would now be his fourth team. I don't know if he will be on the Reds Opening Day Roster or assigned to the minors. Relief Pitcher Steve Schmoll, one of the guys traded with Duaner Sanchez for Jae Seo was sent to the minor league camp by the New York Mets.

I have to say that I'm shocked at how the umpires missed calling a homerun for Mexico. The ball was about 13 feet in the air and clearly a homerun because it hit the foul pole. Roger Clemens and the US are very lucky right now.
