Re: [BlueBallsandStrikes] Re: [think_blue] A question...
wow, Zvi,,certainly going back into the "way back" machine (old cartoon reference, bonus points if you recall the cartoon)... I think, just like music, the players we watched as youngsters and teens tend to be the ones we favor forever. The music sound of the 70s, when I was in High School tends to remain my favorite, even though I agree there has been alot of good music made since then... Watching Garvey-Lopes-Russell-Cey when I was in High School and CSUN makes them amoung my favorites...although the guy I really respect and admire was a Dodger for only a short time...and has one of the signature moments in LA sports history,,I like Gibson an awful lot... My all time favourite player is Sandy Koufax. He is the one Dodger that would be on an all time all star team. A close second is Duke Snider. Although overshadowed by Mays and Mantle in New York, The Duke was quite a player. I also liked many of the Boys Of Summer, Gil Hodges, Roy Campanella, Carl Furillo,, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reece as well as several pitchers; Carl Erskine, Don Newcombe, Johnny Podres and Clem Labine. A lesser player that I liked a lot was Jim Gilliam. Lastly, I like Mike Piazza. My favourite current player is Russell Martin. :-)
This question was posted in another group and I think it's a good one. Who is your favorite all time Dodger and why? Also, please list a player or players that you have actually seen play. I know a lot of people might want to name players like Campanella or Koufax but if you haven't seen them, like me, then please don't name them. It's been a long offseason so I'm trying to find things to talk about.
I will start. I like certain players for certain reasons. When I was a kid I liked Steve Yeager and Ron Cey. Then when I got older I liked Steve Sax
and Mike Marshall. Pitchers I liked Fernando and Orel. Orel was great as we all know my special friendship with him. Later I liked Hideo Nomo and Chan Ho Park as well as Shawn Green, Jose Lima (the best one year guy), Paul Loduca (that love has kind of died though after the Mitchell Rep! ort) and Adrian Beltre. Right now my favorite players are Russell Martin and Nomar Garciaparra.

Yes Dan, can you believe I forgot to name Gibby? and Murray? Of course Eddie had his best years as an Oriole but remains my favorite all time retired player...
Gibby was the man but I didn't get to see him play....I don't really identify him as a Dodger...more like a Tiger... Kristin <prettyrose33@...> wrote: ...
