In response to the question, "What does everyone thing of this?" (Torre), I think it is great. Given the situation in the Dodger dugout in the last third of the season it sounds like a change in leadership was needed. There is no point in analyzing who was at fault or trying to judge the impact of injuries. The fact is that a first place team for many weeks, did a total collapse. They couldn't get clutch hits from mid July on and the pitching failed from mid August on. They had no slugging from April on. Did they have the raw material from April to be better than a fourth place team? I think so but management couldn't pull it together.
Joe Torre is a proven leader, a knowledgeable baseball man and a person who will command respect and require a team effort. The Dodgers are lucky to have him and I hope that his presence will help the Dodgers get a couple of starting pitchers and some slugging power. I also hope that the acquiring of talent is done with the check book via free agency rather than trades. The boys in blue have some great young players and I would hate to see them traded. We need to continue investing in the young talent and then reward them for staying in LA.
So those are my thoughts from the east coast.
