For those who wished for Ramon Martinez to be gone (I wasn't one of them),
well, he won't be.
He has signed a one year deal with an option for 2008 yesterday. A good move I
have to say
because having a veteran who can back up several infield positions as well as
pinch hit is a good
thing to have. Other moves are Logan White moving to Assistant GM and Vance
Lovelace and Terry
Howell Special Assistants to to GM.

The Padres also hired a manager, former Angel Pitching Coach Bud Black. Bud
lives in the San
Diego area so he should be happy. I thought they might hire Dusty Baker but I
guess I was wrong
there. I wonder if Mike Scioscia will now go after Orel Hershiser to be his
Pitching Coach as
Orel was his first choice but turned Mike down so the Angels hired Bud instead.
