I don't know if anyone else caught Tommy Lasorda on the radio today but I did. I love Tommy! I'm going to have to disagree with him though. I know that he has an alliance to the Dodgers and to McCourt because he signs his paychecks. I can't understand his feelings regarding Adrian Beltre and his lack of loyalty to the Dodgers. He stated that the Dodgers did offer him a contract but that it was for less years and less cash but because he came up in the system, he should have shown his loyalty to the team and accepted it. I read just last weekend where DePodesta was quoted as saying that the Dodgers still haven't offered Beltre anything. I don't know who is lying here. I think Adrian did the right thing. Why should he sign for less? Also the Shawn Green trade was brought up and Tommy was denying that there was anything of that nature even going on. Jose Lima was brought up and Tommy said that he was offered a deal and turned it down. When asked for how much, he didn't know. Lasorda is saying that if a team offers a player money and he wants more from someone else, then let him go. He was talking about the 1988 Playoffs when Jay Howell was suspended for using pine tar on a ball and was stating that the team can't rely on one player to win. I agree there but there has been more than one player gone here. I can name, Lima, Finley, Beltre, possibly Perez, Hernandez, and possibly Green, Brazoban and Penny for who? Ricky Ledee, Elmer Dessens and Javier Vasquez? One of the guys on the radio stated that McCourt needs to sell if he can't compete with the markets of Boston and New York. I for one am looking forward to going to Angel Stadium this upcoming season to see the Mariners. I always see Seattle. Good luck to Adrian.
